Gysi/Giesy genetic genealogy project

A group of us Geesey (etc.) researchers have begun a genetic Y-DNA analysis of the Geesey family tree. Our lineage originated in Canton Basel, Switzerland. To date we have identified over a dozen immigrants from Switzerland to America in the 18th and 19th Centuries. While we have not been able to establish conclusive genealogical relationships for many of them, we hope to ascertain whether we are indeed cousins through genetic analysis. We are seeking men with any of the related surnames to join the project by contributing a sample for analysis.

For more information about this project please go to the Gysi Project website at FamilyTree DNA:
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Gysi/

For more information about our origins in Canton Basel Switzerland go to my website:
http://people.musc.edu/~geesey/GysiLineage.htm

You may also contact me directly via e-mail.
Wilma,
I have no information, but it's possible that your Giesy family tree extends back to the Gysis of Canton Basel Switzerland. See my web site for more information on this lineage.
http://people.musc.edu/~geesey/GenealogyHome.htm
Just something to think about.

thanks for your information. I do have the Giesy family traced to Alsace-Lorain and the Sacred Heart church which has records. My problem has been connecting the Giesy side as I have the Grandmother's side there with the Giesy name also there. Unfortunately I can not seem to find any further information on Georg Giesy.

Wilma,

Please keep in mind the spelling of our last names, The Gies,Giese,Giesy,Giesse,Giesey,Geis,Geise,Geisy,Geissy,Geisey names are all in somewhat related - I just came across my cousin in Germany and the actual spelling in Germany is GIESSE. when most of the Family came to america the "y" was added and the spelling in most cases was mixed up. I do wish you luck in finding these links. My 4th GrGrandfather came to america in the 1700's and settled in Loudon County Virginia, he was an ordained minister of the German Reformed Lutheran Faith (now the Evangelical Lutheran Faith) even though my last name spelling is GIESEY he spelled his GIESE but his father in Germany spelled it GIESSE using the long "S" sound in German. Good Luck
