My great grandfather was Charles Janack (1870-1942) and he was married to Georgianna Charron (1875-1952). I am wondering if he is the same Charles you all reference. I am having trouble tracing back farther than him and Georgianna. I have Charles' parents as John and Elizabeth but that's as far as I got. Any help is appreciated!

I have quite a few Gignac's in my tree and especially Clement since he married Christine Odette since she's a first cousin 3 times removed. My grandma was an Odette. Can always write me direct at dalerenaud@wowway.com

Laurent's original name was Laurent dit Gignac Gignard. He came from the town of Gignac, France. Since the Catholics had no imagination when it came to naming their children, they would throw in a "dit" name, or a "from" name, to clarify. When Laurent traveled to Canada, I'm assuming he (or someone) decided to shorten the name to just Gignac.

I MADE A BREAKTHROUGH!!! WOOHOOO!!!!!!

He was married TWICE! First time was in 1909 to a Ruth Vansickel. THEN....he married Nellie P. Kroes. Records I've found show Nellie as PEARL, but I am wondering if that is her middle name or something. ALSO....I've seen her maiden name as Kroc(s), but it *is* Kroes.

I am not aware of kids with Ruth (That I could find...does anyone know of this?), but with Nellie, there was Raymond, Robert, and Norman :)

Hope to help!!!!! I am sorta at a wall with my great-grandfather - so I I thought I'd research his wife's lineage.

My Granfather was James Richards. Son of Homer Richards and Minnie Gignac. Minnie was daughter of Charles Gignac & Emily Proulx. Charles was a son of John Gignac (I have him listed as Jean - which is the same name I believe) and Clarisse Ayoette.

Your post was so long ago...hope this reaches you

Hello Ray,

Could you post more information about this family. Do you know the names of any of these people's siblings? It sounds as if these people are your parents, grandparents and great grandparents. Are they still living? If they are, it's not a good idea to post any personal information about them. If you are interested, I have an Oral History questionaire that I can send you so that you can ask them important questions that could be valuable for finding out information. Let me know if you are interested and I'll send it to you...

By the way, I also am connected to the Gignac family in Pennetanguishine! My maiden name was Gignac...

L. (Gignac) Drewitz
**********************************************************
Bonjour Rayon,

L. (Gignac) Drewitz

Sacramento Evening Bee
Thursday, June 1, 1905

DIED FROM EFFECTS OF EATING MUSHROOMS
PLACERVILLE (El Dorado Co.), June 1 - Augustus Anndy GIGNAC died yesterday in the city from the effects of eating mushrooms.
On the 3d of May, Gignac, James BLAKELEY and George FORD partook of a mess of mushrooms. That night Ford and Gignac were taken violently sick. After several days of severe illness, Ford recovered. But Gignac was not so fortunate. He apparently would improve, and then have a relapse. This
occurred a number of times, until yesterday, when he sank for the last time and passed away.
Gignac was a well-known character in this city, and in the county. He was a native of Ohio, aged 57 years., and leaves a son and daughter surviving him.
Re: "Gignac" family

It may be /probably is unlikely that your grandfather named Aurelian Gignac is the same Aurelian (Joseph) Gignac as my grandfather. He was born in Haverhill, MA in 1899. He was married to my grandmother Fabiola Giroux in 1923. They had 5 sons; one was my father. However Fabiola died in 1954, and Aurelian lived until 1975. No one in the family has said anything about those intervening years. What other information do you have about Aurelian Gignac, etc?
Thanks PGM
