Hello Thomas and Grace. What a pleasure to meet more Gil family members! In fact, I wish you could have been at a very special Gil Family reunion we had last night. Most of the members we met (for the 1st time!) are also descendants of Agustin Fiacro Gil. My husband, is descended from Agustin's younger brother Leoncio "Tito" Gil. I can put you in touch with Rose Victoria "Viki" Campa Valenzuela. Her mother was Carmen Gil, b 1907 to Agustin & Luz (Salazar) Gil. "Viki", Ceasar Gil, Imelda Gil, Evelina Gil Zimmerman, John (Darwin)Gill Bree and his daughter Roseanne Bree were present at the reunion at the Hunter Restaurant in Oceanside, CA. Several days before that, "Viki, Ceasar, Imelda, Evelina traveled to King City to meet some more Gil cousins (Tom & Carol), visit the Gil Gravesites in King City, then go up to the Hunter Liggett Military Reservation where the Gil Adobe sits (Jolon, CA)The Gil Adobe is now on the Register of Historic Places, and is fenced off to the public, but you can get close enough to take good pics. Please contact me on via email: katchris45@gmail.com Thanks for contacting me!
Kathy

My grandmothers name was Esperanza Gil. She was orphaned in the Mexican revolution along with her brother who was said to have moved to Texas. She was kidnapped by a woman and stayed in Mexico city. I believe her father was from Sevilla. So she lost all ties to her family. Ill ask my mother his name, maybe there's a connection.

Rose

Trying to locate any ancestry links from my family in Colombia, South America. My family did not keep records of anyone past my great grandparents so I am trying to patch family past together. Last known Gil was my Great GrandPa Eliovildo Gil (not sure about his first name spelling) who was a Mayor in Santander, Colombia. His son Leovijildo Gil was also a Mayor in that region and married my grandma Blanca Mejia. My mother moved to the Bogota, Colombia then to NYC.

I was born in Ca. but I have family from my mother's side that is from Tepantla, Jalisco.
Is your family familiar with Pedro Flores? He is still alive and he is married to Timotea Jimenez-Flores. They have 13 children (one being my mother Hortencia), but one uncle Pedro Flores (after my grandfather) died in 1986-he is buried in Tepantla. Another uncle is named Salvador and went missing in the 1970's.
My grandfather was born in 1931 so maybe he knows or knew your relative Donato

Hola familias Gil...
Saludos

Ise's maiden name was Wootton. Here father was Simon Wootton and her mother was Maria Hernandez.

The children listed are:

Hortencia age 5 b. 1905
Humberto age 4 b. 1906
Maria E. age 2 b. 1908
Esperanz H.age 10/12 b. June 1909

I would appreciate any information anyone has on this family. By 1920 the had moved to Tom Green County, Texas and Ise was head of household in 1920. Santos either died between 1910 and 1920 or something happened.

I am looking for any information on them while in Brewster County, Texas from say 1904-1910 period and maybe even later up to say 1918 or 1919.

Thank you very much.

BonesSearcher

Gil (originally McGill) from Scotland to Spain to Mexico to California

Am researching on behalf of my husband Robert Bruce Gregory, Jr's maternal lineage. His maternal grandmother was Eva Gil b.23 Apr 1913,Jolon, Monterey Co., CA; d.17 Jun 1976 San Bernardino,S.B.Co.,CA; m.12 Jan 1930 San Jose, Santa Clara Co., CA. to Stanley Nicholas Carrera. Eva was the dau. of Anastacio Leoncio "Tito" & Balbina (Yates)Gil. "Tito" was b.22 Jan 1875, Jolon, Monterey Co., CA; d.21 Jan 1928, San Jose, Santa Clara Co., CA; m. 14 Sep 1903 in Jolon, Monterey Co., CA. They were the parents of 7 children: Jasper Edward; Harold Jerome; Grace Angelina; Rudolph Muricio; Viola, Eva & Marie "Dolly" Gil. "Tito" Gil was the son of Jose Maria & Maria Antonia (Vallejo Linares Avila, a full-blood Salinan Indian, don't know her Native American name) Gil. JOSE GIL b.14 Dec 1821, Madrid, Spain; d. 23 Oct 1892, Jolon, Monterey Co., CA; m.(his 2nd) 1860 in Jolon, CA. to MARIA, the Salinan Indian. This couple had 14 children: Eliza; Rosa Maria; Apolonio Leon; Agustin Fiacro; Esteban Anacieto; Maria Luisa Eustoila; Victoria; Marcella; Alexandro Henrique "Henry"; (Bob's line:)ANASTACIO LEONCIO "TITO"; Rodrigo Esteban Alejandro; Gulleimo Genardo; Francisco Alberto; & Mary Gil.

(Jose's first marriage abt. 1852 prob. in Monterey Co., CA., was to Juliana Gomez-Castillo, and they had 3 known children: Mariano, Jose Maria, Jr., & Jose Miguel de la Trinidad Gil.)

JOSE was son of JOSE LEON & LOUSA (ALLOS) GIL. JOSE LEON GIL was b. abt 1785-1790 in Scotland where his surname was MCGILL before he moved to Madrid, Spain and changed to GIL. JOSE LEON probably died about 1870, poss. in Erongaricuaro, Michoacan, Mexico. It is family lore that there was another child, a girl born to this couple, but name unknown at this time to me.

Jose moved to Erongaricuaro, Michoacan, Mexico with his parents at age 7 from Madrid, Spain. At age 21 he moved to California during the 1849 Gold Rush. He found success in mining, then he moved to Jolon, and became owner of 280 acres of land, and built the GIL ADOBE in 1856. This adobe, listed in the National Register of Historic Places is an "example of the ranch adobe built when cattle ranching and dry farming constituted the basis of Monterey Co. agriculture" is located within the Fort Hunter Liggett about 1 mile west of Jolon near the San Antonio River. He took up 260 acres of government land, formerly the San Antonio Mission mule ranch of 1820, which is now the Salsipuedes Ranch area. he sold the ranch to Vincente (sic) Avila in 1864. Then Jose moved to the west of Jolon on land which he apparently bought from the government about 1848...The adobe was finished about 1850 when Jose was naturalized as a U.S. citizen...ln 1850 he married Juliana Gomez, who died in 1857 leaving 3 sons. In 1860 Gil remarried to Maria Vallejo who bore him nine sons and five daughters. Jose died in 1892 and is buried in the Gil Family plot north of the adobe." (HOWARD, MONTEREY COUNTY PLACE NAMES, A GEOGRAPHICAL DICTIONARY by Donald Thomas Clark).

Am hoping to contact other descendants of this family and exchange info. I have photos of the GIL ADOBE and the family graveyard located about 100 feet from this historic adobe. I know he was a Vietnam Veteran and he was also a musician playing the saxaphone. If you have any information about someone who might fit this information please email me at mariazteca13@yahoo.com

Thank you very much.
Marisa Villegas
