Read your query and yes there is a Long Island Virginia, near Lynchburg. My GGrandmother was a Gilbert and was born in Halifax County, Virginia to a Hester and Jim Gilbert. I find Hester (also called June) in the census in 1870 and 1880. She died between 1896 and 1900. Looking for more info on her or Jim (James). Hester was born about 1839-1840 in either Pittsylvania or Halifax County
