Hi,
I am researching James Gilder b. about 1848 in Georgia. I believe he was the son of Wiley and Martha Gilder. About 1876 he married or lived with my great-great grandmother Augusta Horn. I am uncertain if they married or not. The 1880 GA census lists them as married, but all of their children took the last name Horn. They had they following children:

Mary Leila b. 1876
Julia Pearl b. 1878
Dora b. 1881
James Elijah b. 1888

James is listed as the head of the household in Pulaski Co., GA with wife Augusta and daughters Mary and Julia. In 1900, Augusta is listed as a widow. I have seen information that says he died in 1906 and that fits with in with what has been passed down in may family. I would greatly appreciate an information you might have on James or Wiley.

Sandra

David Gilder

I am trying to find my G. G. Grandfather/Mother. We think David Gilder had 7 children:- Thomas b.1851(my great grandfather),Martha b.c1852, Emma b.c1854, James b.c1860, Charles b.c.1863, David b. c.1865, and Sophia b.c1867. The family came from the Camberwell area, Surrey London. At the age of 20, Thomas - living at 4, Union Cottages, Moor(e) Terraces, was (in 1871 census), head of the household, a bricklayer and looking after his 6 siblings. All we know is that David Gilder was also a bricklayer and, according to Thomases Marriage cert., was still alive in 1889. We can find no record of David Gilder/wife. What happened to them? Why had they left all their children?

Just taking a stab in the dark. My mother's great grandmother was Annie Gilder Horn. Annie Gilder married Frederick Horn approximately 1870 or thereabouts. I have not been able to trace any other Gilders, with certainty, beyond the marriage certificate of their daughter, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Horn (age 18)who married Andrew Huneke in NYC in 1912. They lived on Pleasant Ave. in the Bronx, near 115th St. My mother, Anna Gertrude Huneke was born in Sept. 1913. Andrew and Lizzie separated when my mother was 3 years old but he lists her on his Military/Enlistment card as his wife but not living with him. I think I found her on a later census (1920) living with a Gilder relative. I am not certain of the later since, to date, I haven't found Lizzie's death certificate. My mother never knew what happened to her mother Lizzie or her grandmother, Annie Gilder.
Harriett Doyle Auger

I am seeking information on my great grandmother Emma Eugenia Holland. She was born near Pushmataha, AL in 12/5/1847. She had three younger sibings - William H.(1850), James T.(1852) and Lula (1854). Their parents were Henry Holland(1818-1855)and Nancy Horn(@1831-@1854). James T. Holland died in 1904. He mentioned in his will having four sister of the "half blood" two living and two deceased. His two dececeased sisters were Emma (d 1899) and Lula (d 1895). His will also named a Spotswood Williams of Pushmataha, AL. The names Gilder and Williams have been mentioned in association with the Holland and Horn families. Do you know of any such relationship? If there is one how are they related? The Holland children were orphaned at an early age and were living with a Gilder family in Choctaw Co. in 1860(census). They were in Leon Co. Texas by mid 1860's. Your assistance is appreciated.

I just received alot of Gilder info from a relative and am now in the process of sorting it all out. Hope this is of some help. Let me hear from you. Good Luck!
Dorothy...seems you are definitely related to my wife and her family! Yes, please send me that URL. I'm still digging thru all the info I have received but I KNOW I have info that goes further back than Sinnot...would you be interested? I was warned that there are knots/mysteries in the info that have yet to be solved or worked out but I do have more! I also know that several of the Gilders are buried in Chambers County, AL... LaFayette Cemetery (I assume in the city of LaFayette, AL) and Oak Bowery Cemetery in Chambers Co. but near Opelika, AL....supposedly several family members have searched for Oak Bowery and never found it. We live in Auburn, AL VERY near by....so I definitely have plans to look for these cemeteries. Anyway...hope to hear from you soon...Greg Creech.

e-mail me directly at:

creechx4@mindspring.com

Hi Karen...thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my post! Sounds as if the info you have may help to answer several of the questions I have had concerning the Gilder Family Tree. Chronology of the male Gilders during this period has been such a tangle! Yes...please, I would very much be interested in any and all information you could share with me. They settled first in VA...from there it seems they moved to SC, then GA, then AL. I could very well be that back among the early Gilders there is a tie in to my wifes family but I have no information that would seem to help you.
Dorothty...the Gilders are on my wifes side of the family so I'm just beginning to get a familiarity with them. However, I recently received ALOT of help from one of her long, lost cousins...a huge packet of info going along way back! I do know that James Lafayette Gilder came out of Chambers County...he is the ancestor to all the Gilders in Alabama to which my wife is related. His people came out of Georgia, Laurens County, I believe. I do not know about a Julia Frances Gilder but perhaps it was a sister of JL Gilder or something. Give me a day or so to look thru what I have and I'll get back to you. You can e-mail me directly at:creechx4@mindspring.com.

I am looking for a connection with the Gilder and Horn families. My grandmother, Annie Horn, married Andrew Huneke. Annie's mother was Annie Gilder who married Frederick Horn probably in the late 1870 or 1880's since Annie Horn married my grandfather, Andrew Huneke in 1912 in NYC. I think I have found one connection on the 1930 census and also a mention of Annie Horn Huneke on my late grandfather's military registration card. They were apparently separated. My mother never really knew Annie Horn Huneke as she left her husband and child at age 3 or 4. All of this was in NYC. Except for the 1930 census mentioning an Annie HOrn living with a Gilder the only other information I have are addresses and two siblings: Edward Horn and Alice Horn. Please e-mail me: harrietta@skybest.com and put Horn, Gilder or HUneke in the subject.
Thanks, ;Harriett Doyle Auger

Hi Jules. Your grandfather, Emanuel, was a brother to my grandfather, Barrow Benjamin Gilder. Barrow, his wife Martha and my father and his sister lived in London, England and emigrated to South Africa in the late 1940s. My father was Nathaniel Stanley Gilder. Barrow died in South Africa in the late 1950s. My father died in South Africa in 1994.

I have managed to trace the Gilder family back to Levy Gilder born in about 1823 in the Netherlands who settled in London, England in the mid-1850s.
