GILLETTE Margaret, Maggie or Magaret

I have found a studio portrait (cabinet card) of a young woman by photographer E.D. Nash. It was purchased in an antiques mall in Des Moines, Iowa. The name on the back of the portrait is MAGARET GILLETTE. It actually says AUNT MAGARET GILLETTE in ink and in pencil it says MAGGIE, so I am assuming that the name could also be MARGARET GILLETTE.
If any are interested, I will send you a digital copy by email. If you can verify this is your ancestor, I will be happy to send you the original free of charge.
Pamela Manary Tippett
PS. This is not my ancestor, and I do not have any further information about this person. Photo only.
John Gillet of Newtown, Connecticut

I am looking for a John Gillet who was the son of Eunice (Clark) and Samuel Gillet and lived in Newtown, Connecticut. I do not know the name of John’s wife. His children were Jerusha, Abel Ferris, Anna, Polly, and David, as far as I know. I think this may be the John Gillet baptized in Newtown on 20 Nov 1748. I also believe that this is the descendancy: William Gylet, Jeremiah Gillet, Sgt. Jeremiah Gillet, John Gillet who married Sarah Tryon, Samuel Gillet who married Eunice Clark, John Gillett (who married ?), and Abel Ferris Gillette. My third great grandfather’s, Abel Ferris Gillette’s, history states the Gillet family in Newtown dates back to 1709 when John Gillet (I believe the one that married Sarah Tryon) came from Wethersfield, Connecticut and settled it is believed in the Palestine district. There are several Abel Gilletts and several John Gilletts, etc. I want to make sure I am putting this family together correctly. Any information I can find on these families from Newtown would be greatly appreciated.

I'm the co-administrator of the Gillette/Gillett surname project hosted by www.ftdna.com.
We now have five participants: one Gillette, three Gilletts, and one Gillet.
Two participants are from the USA, one from Canada, and one from France. The fifth one wishes to remain anonymous.
The fascinating thing that we have discovered so far is that none of us are genetically related. We need more participants to help us discover family lines and geographical origin. Please join us in this quest.
Maria and Michal Gillette of England settled in Philadelphia between 1841 to 1850. I could not locate them in the 1850 and the 1860 census in Philadelphia. Their last name could have been misspelled. I tried different names of Gillette such as Gilliat, Gilot, etc., but no luck. Any idea?

Their only known children:

Eleanor, b. 1836 who had Maria West born in March 1857 in Philadelphia by unknown West. Eleanor later married to Anthony Beam, a shoemaker from Newark, NJ., in 1862. They had Emma, Eleanor, and Anthony.

William, b. 1850 d. 1876 in Philadelphia.

Looking for information on a Gillette family from Washington. Unfortunately, all I have to go on is the writing on the back of an old photo. I do not have the husbands name, but know his wife's name was Minnie. The other problem is the photo doesn't stipulate whether its Washington State or D.C. Any help would be appreciated!

They divorced in 1915 and Mable moved to New Jersey with their daughter --my now 90 year old grandmother. Edward was and Engineer with the railroad and lost an eye when an angry Cook at their campsite shot at a fellow engineer who had been sleeping with his wife. The bullet ricocheted off the something and my Great grandfather lost an eye. If any of this sounds familiar, please contact me. Also, I have family pictures of the entire clan and George I would gladly e-mail to relatives. They are marvelous.

Sam Jose, January 3, 1902- C.A. Gillette died suddenly at 5 o'clock this morning under such circumstances as to cause the Coroner to investigate. An autopsy showed the death was due to an organic disease of the ear. Gillette had been employed as a bookeeper by a commercial publication in San Francisco, His family, consisting of a wife and five children, live here.
He had been drinking a good deal, and came here under the influence of liquor yesterday. He was bloody and had cuts on his head and face, which he said he recieved in a fight with a printer in San Franciso. He went to bed, and about 5 o'clock this morning was found in unconscious sedation. He died before a hastily called physicain could arrive. An inquest will be held, but doubtless, an autopsy will clear all doubt

Sacramento Bee 1/3/1898
Gillette, Kenneth - We haven't much time. Please Help.

I am seeking info on Kenneth Gillette. I know he was in Ft. Garland, Colorado in 1927-1929. Wife was Ruth Judd. He left Colorado to find work shortly before his daughter Roberta "Teresa" was born on 4/1/1929. Ruth and her sister Eva were shot and killed one month later on 5/29/1929. Teresa was raised by her Grandmother, but never knew anything about her father's family. Teresa is my Aunt, getting older and not in good health. It would be nice to give her some connection. Thank you for any info you can provide.
Linda

A year or so ago two people were very nice to send me information that they had collected on Jacques Gylet and his descendants. With that information I was able to find a direct line of descendancy. Unfortunately my computer died and I was unable to save any information. Would appreciate any and all help and regaining the information on Jacques Gylet. The information that I do have goes back to Aaron Gillette and Zibia Crowley. They had two sons Nathan and Morris. Nathan m. Mary Cora and had Servellon Ladore Gillette. Morris m. Nancy Whitakerand had Margaret Gillette. Servellon m. Margaret(first cousins) Thankyou for all your help. Peggy
