I'm looking for the parents of my g-g-g grandfather, William Henry Harrison born 6 March 1838. He married Margaret Alice McCracken 28 Dec 1864. I have seen two obituaries but neither lists his parents or siblings.

Hi, I think its quite interesting because thats the story in my family too being related to Micky Gilley. I have looked up my family history recently and have found that someone in my family has the name Hodges. Artie E. Hodges Was my Great Great Grandmother. and she Married a Barney Gilley. If this is part of your history as well, if you could send me information on The Gilley and Hodges side that would be great. I think we might be related somehow in a long family gene pool. William O. "Bill" Gilley, 83, of Bonifay, Fla., passed away quietly Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at his home in Bonifay, Fla., surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held June 18, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Darrell Marshall and Jason Johnson officiating.

He was the son of the late Bill Oates Gilley and the late Radie (DeBose) Gilley.He was born on March 16, 1926, in Houston Co., Ala. He was a local businessman for many years, and he loved to fish, play golf and was an avid University of Alabama fan. After his retirement, Mr. Gilley devoted his time to traveling and spending time with his family and enjoying his grandchildren.

Mr. Gilley was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Obie Williams Joiner and Katharine Williams Buie; and a brother-in-law, Charles E. Bowers, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Martha (Simmons) Gilley of Bonifay, Fla.; two daughters, Beverly Ann Gilley of Bonifay, Fla., Samantha Frazier and husband, Scott of Chipley, Fla.; two sons, Bill Oates Gilley of Jacksonville, Fla., Lee Gilley and wife, Melonie, of Bonifay, Fla.; five grandchildren, Radie Gilley of Bonifay, Matthew Cajote, Regan Destival and Ryals Ann Destival of Chipley, Kelsey Gilley of Bonifay; one sister, Frances Bowers of Panama City Beach, Fla.; and many other family members, nieces and nephews that were very dear to him.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009. in the Sims Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will be at Shady Grove Cemetery in Bonifay, Fla., with Sims Funeral Home of Bonifay, Fla., directing.

In my Gilley research, I have a daughter of Thomas Jefferson Gilley and Elizabeth Burnett whose name on the 1900 Census in Wharton County, TX, is listed as "Nolie", age 8, b. Apr 1892. She has a brother, Cleveland Gilley, who is 13 in 1900. Their name is listed as 'Gelie' in Wharton County, TX.

Wade Gilley of King, North Carolina has published a book about the Gilley family from Francis downward. He even published my Edward Gilley as possible relative because they lived in same town. That would be 1789 to 1844 married to Mary Collins. I took a chance on it and the book is $50.00 and worth it too. If you have questions check him out under search for Gilley board.

From the Dec. 25, 1908 Rockland (Maine) Opinion (left in original spelling):

(Camden) Mrs. Julia S., wife of Captain Claude M. Gilley, keeper of Negro Island light, died, Tuesday, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Richards, on Washington street. The deceast was spending a few days with her daughter and was stricken with paralysis while shopping. Besides a husband, she leaves to mourn her loss, three daughters, Mrs. Annie Anderson and Mrs. William Richards, of Camden, and Mrs. Edwin Watson, of Rockport; also two sons, Roy, of Camden, and Harry, of Los Angeles, Calif. The deceast was 64 years of age. Mrs. Gilley was a woman of quiet unassuming manners, a devoted wife and mother and the deep sympathy of all is tendered to them in their sorrow. The funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home of her daughter. Rev. S.E. Frohgock will officiate.

Civil war era.
This is my wife's great great great grandfather.
We are trying to confirm some names and dates.

His son was Alfred Edward Gilley who married Carrie Bradley
they in turn sired Bruce Vincent Gilley who married Jessica Francis Smutz
they in turn sired David Edward Gilley who married Janet Pearl Rothrock and these are my wife's current living grandparents.

David was born in D.C. as Bruce was in the Navy during WWII.
They then moved to Roseburg, Oregon after the war.

Any info or correspondence would be appreciated.

I, too, am looking for information on William Fredrick Gilley from Henry County, Virginia. He married Nancy Higgs and they had 8 children. She moved to Rockingham County, North Carolina in 1868 but there is no mention of him in the 1870 or 1880 census reports. Did he die around 1867/68 in Henry County Virginia? Did he desert his family? Was he arrested, tried and convicted in Virginia or North Carolina? Did she move to North Carolina because of the Cotton Mill jobs (there was a mass exodus of Henry County citizens about that same time because the Cotton Mill was offering homes plus salary) or if William Fredrick Gilley was jailed to be there near him? The Higgs family had already moved to Rockingham County, NC prior to Nancy & her children relocating. One of the children was also named William Fredrick Gilley born about 1868. There is no designation of Jr. or Sr. on the names, but I am using it because there was quite a bit of confusion in finding the census records. Their daughter, Millie Gilley, was my great grandmother. I would appreciate any and all help you can provide.

She bore children named Jesse Gray Seay, Roy Lansford Seay, as well as many others. Cities I have noted that she has lived in are Schoolfield, Virginia (later incorporated into Danville (Pittsylvania County), Virginia); Leaksville (Rockingham County), North Carolina (later incorporated as Eden, North Carolina)

linda, i found an ida bennett in the georgia 1930 census.
her husband is listed as maryland bennett. her mother is listed as lula gilley.
her children were listed as agnes, edna and catherine.

in the 1910 census for whitesburg, carroll, ga, lists:
ida gilley, dau of lula and robert j gilley.
siblings shown are james, mabel and florence.

are these your people.

Hi, I don't know that many Gilley's expect for the family I grow up around. We lived south GA, north Flordia. My great-grandfather was biracial but he married a black/indian. But they lived on the FL/GA stateline. We may be kind.His father had two women he mess with. One was black and the other was his wife. What I know about him is name was Joe Gilley. He lived in AL for a minute and then moved. I am sorry that I can't help you but just hope you know that down the line somewhere we might be family.

I'm also researching the Gilley name, and it appears we are related. My GGG Grandparents are John Gilley and Mary Barger. Elkanah Gilley and Jemina (Gemima?) Kelly are my GG Grandparents. My Grandparents are Kiser Gilley and Etta Belle Wilson. My dad is Kermit Wilson Gilley.

That is the same thing that we were told as kids, that Mickey Gilley was our grampa's cousin. He was really insistent on it. He also said that Jerry Lee Lewis was another cousin. Now, my grampa's gone, and NOBODY knows anything. I'm trying to find out who Escar R Gilley's parents were. He's my grampa's pappy.

My grandmothers name was Ida May Bennett. Her family was from Kentucky and her father was a coal miner. She married Leland Cloud and moved to Alaska, then after Leland died she moved to Bremerton Wash. and married Jesse E. Shelton and moved to Port Orchard, Wash. Is she related ? I dont know. I hope this helps some. She used to talk about how we were related to Daniel Boone....

My Grandmother came from the Gilley family in Texas. I have heard all my life that I am a cousin of Mickey Gilley, but have not been able to substantiate it. Others have done some of the work for me. I know we come through James Andrew Gilley (b. 1853 TX), and his father H. B. (may be Hays Bowdery) Gilley (b. 1812 GA). H. B. came to Texas in the late 1830s. His father's name was John Gilley (b. abt 1775) who married Rebecca Hays about 1809 in GA. We don't know where John came from, but rumor has it that it might be Maine. Does anyone have a John Gilley who disappeared from their line?

I'd love to find out if there are others out there working on this line of Gilleys.

William Frederick Gilley was the son of William and Nancy(possibly Higgs)Gilley of Henry Co. William Frederick married 1. Katie Cox. They are my g-grandparents. Katie died in 1900 and Wm. F. subsequently married Daisy Blankenship.

Millie was the sister of Wm. Frederick. William and Nancy are our gg-grandparents...I think that makes us 3rd cousins!
Would enjoy sharing more with you. I think I have some helpful information for you....but not all of the mysteries are solved! Still working on them myself!

My mom's name is Jennifer Gilley, but they have been divorced since 1998. Robert Lashley Gilley Sr. was married to Martha Powers, but my grandma passed away in the early 90s. I guess I finally found you!

Who does Mickey Gilley Belong to? My great- great- grandmother was Frances Missouri Gilley. My grandmother always wondered before she passed away if they were kin to Mickey Gilley. I am trying to trace this back and have gotten back to Francis Gilley Sr. Father of Francis Gilley, who is the father of Charles Sr., Who is the father of John Sally Gilley, Who is the father of William Riley Gilley, Who was my gg grandmothers dad.

Thank you so much. These are my people. I found out that Ida,her husban and Lula are all buried in St. Paul's cemetery in Whiteburg, but there is no marker. My grandfather Mack is buried there also and I now have a marker on his grave.
