I would like to learn more about the Tohono O'odham Nation.

I am of mixed race. My dad was of German decent, and my mother is black and Tohono O'odham. My mother's dad's father was black, and his mother was a Papago princess. My mother has a lot of relatives that still live on the tribe, but I know nothing about them, not even their names. I don't even know what my grandfather's first name was, his last name was Baker, that is all I've been told. How do I learn more aboutthe tribe?

I never received the CD that Herb was going to burn for me. My cousin (very far removed) did get a CD. I can ask him if he would look up the info you are looking to find. Please get in touch with me directly at cyber_m0m@yahoo.com and let me know your questions. I will forward them and your email address to Roy. Please put Gillham in the subject line.

Hi!
I've done a lot of research on my Gillham relatives, and I've come up with this info on the person you are looking for. First of all, I don't believe her name is Mary, but is Martha A. Gillham. You have her correct birthdate.
Martha married John "Richard" Downey on January 25, 1842, in Maury County, Tennessee. Richard and Martha's family can be found living next to Martha's brother, Isaac Gillham, in the 1860 census of Lewis County, Tennessee.
According to my records, Martha and Isaac are the children of Jacob Clemons Gillham and Mary Elizabeth "Betty" (Jetton) Gillham.
Hope this is some help.

Re: Julia Gillham m. William Harrison in Illinois

HI, I spotted this post as I was browsing through old postings. I found two instances of William Harrisons marrying Gillhams, but neither are exactly as your information indicats.

First - I have a William Harrison who married an Eliza Gillham, Eliza being born around 1824.She was a daughter of John Gillham, Jr. (3), John Gillham (2), Thomas Gillham, Sr. (1) I have no other information on this union.

Second - I have William McKendree Harrison, b. Jan. 24, 1809 who m. Madison Co., IL June 6, 1853 (Lic Vol. 6, pg. 112, # 480) Julia A. Gillham, b. Nov. 30, 1828, d. Nov. 26, 1855 Alton, Madison Co., IL. She was also a daughter of John Gillham, Jr., so maybe this is one in the same??? Married one daughter after the other died?

Don't know if this helps or confuses, but thought I'd send you this information. If you can expand, or have picked up something since your original post, I'd enjoy hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Herb Gillham, 2700 Highway 67 (Mo. Av), Granite City, IL 62040-2029.
Hi, Debbie - I had noticed your original posting back in 1999 and had added the note to my database. I saw it again tonight and since you had posted her parents' names, I checked the database and found something for you.

I have info on this line (enumerated as Gilham) that goes back to 1st generation ancestor Drury Gilham, born Rowan Co., NC cir 1765.

2nd generation ancestors James Gilham, b. NC cir 1813 and Nancy Condor, b. KY, Oct. 1817.

According to the information I have, her parents were David Preston Gillham and Jemima Carmichael. her siblings were: Jacob Armstrong, James R., Louilla E., Thomas Ora, Willard E. and Earnest. She is enumerated as Lillie D. with a birth date of Sept. 12, 1871 and date of death of June 26, 1957 with burial in South Union Cemetery. It reflects her having married twice - once to a Mr. Morgan, the other time to James R. Hazel. There are no descendants listed. So this information does conflice somewhat with what you have.

I would enjoy hearing from you with any updates you can provide me on Lillie or any other Gilham/Gillham members of this family. If you'd like a genealogy report from my FTM database, let me know, I'll break one out and e-mail it to you.

Sincerely,

Herb Gillham, 2700 Highway 67 (MO AV), Granite City, IL 62040-2029.

GILLHAM of Alton, Illinois and American Bottoms

I have need to contact someone of direct descent of the GILLHAM family that were settled on a farm in the year of and day of March 8, 1898. A country doctor drove 10 miles in a wintery storm from Alton, Illinois, to a farm that was located out of town and also being 20 miles south of St. Louis.

This GILLHAM famiy was deeded a piece of property by Pres. James MOnroe in 1817 to the great-grandmother of Charles E. Gillham for heroism in the Indian wars and was located on a spot known at the turn of the century as American Bottoms, 2 miles from the Mississippi and three miles from the mouth of the Missouri.

Please, would someone of Charles E. GILLHAM's family. He married Virginia LEHANE in 1930.
Regards,
Linda Thank
Kettle Falls,
Washington

Any family stories about Phillip Phagan Gillham?

I'm hoping that there are some descendants of Phillip Phagan Gillham who hae heard some interesting oral history about him. If you know of any good stories (and not so good, too) about him, please share. Perhaps someone knows which Civil War battle resulted in his wound. Maybe you heard something about him as a father or grandfather (or in my case, grgrgrandfather), his demeanor?... his habits? We know he was a skilled builder...after, all the log cabin he built is still standing and is on the National Register of Historic Places. So, what else do we collectively know? Please ask your extended family about him and share.
Barbara Gillham McCarthy

From "History of Grant County, Wisconsin", 1881, p. 905.

PLATTEVILLE

JOHN G. GILLHAM, Platteville; born Dec. 22, 1819, in Madison Co., Ill.; son of Charles and Clarinda Gillham, who settled in Grant Co. in 1835. The sons of Charles Gillham engaged in mining at Big Patch, J. G. Gillham following the "diggins" and farming until 1850, when he went to California, and for two years sought his fortunes in the gold mines; returning, he began farming near Belmont, Wis. In 1862, he made a second visit to the Pacific Slope; on his return in 1863, he sold his Belmont farm, and settled in Platteville. The summer of 1864 was spent by him in the United States service, as a Private in the 41st W. V. I., he returning on sick leave shortly before the final discharge of his regiment. He settled in his present pleasant home in 1872. J. G. Patterson, a former owner of the property, had established a nursery here, which has secured to Mr. Gillham an unusually large, fine orchard, besides other fruit and ornamental trees. He married Miss Mary L., daughter of Ashahel and Eliza Haggett; she was born April 25, 1829. An adopted daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gillham is now the wife of Frank White, of Lancaster. Mr. and Mrs. Gillham belong to the M. E. Church of Platteville. The father, Charles Gillham, died on the day of the capitulation of Gen. Lee, in April, 1865. Mrs. Charles Gillham died Sept. 28, 1879.

[I am not related to this family. I'm just posting this as a service and hope it helps!]

What I know now about George Gillham is he was married to Frances Etta Piercefield in 1881.I know our George died in Anacoa LA in 1927( cannot find where he was buried) and Frances Etta Gillham died in Arkansas in 1943. They were not together. I am trying to find decendants of Henrietta Goldie Gillham Smith she married Everett Smith and had Dorothy June, Patricia Ann, Alice Marie and Robert.

Dorothy Annie Gilham

I am trying to trace my great grandmother. (Gilham is her maiden name - her married name is Jones)

On her birth certificate (dated 10 september 1902) - her father, nor his profession, is not mentioned.

Her mother is named as Agnes Gilham. Below her name is 'a tailoress' (occupation? and unmarried?)

On her marrage certificate, her dad is listed as 'Walter Thomas Gilham (deceased)' with Agnes being one of the witnesses.

I would look Agnes and Dorothy up on the census, but the 1911 England census hasn't been released yet.
