Found her too, age is right, and its the only one, aside from spelling that fits the dates. The 'parish' details may confirm or exclude. Your contribution could be very promising in helping find the linkages.

Living in the same household (1841 census) was a James Smith (age 2) and a Margaret Smith (25) who it would seem is James's mother. Also listed is Anne Watherstone (age 67) whom one could likely deduce from the childrens names is the Grandmother. That would make AnneW born about 1774(ish)
I havent found anything further on her at all. I was hoping I might have picked up a death notice/date. (I suspect Watherstone is a soundex challenge)

This is very useful (if) the original assumption (isobell = isable) can be sustained. What source did you have for the James Dickson Davie parents?

Can't quite get a connection to Thomas Gillie or James Gillie/Mary Bookless but that doesn't mean there isn't.
I can see an Isable Gillie born 1838 on the 1841 Scotland census, parents listed as James and Elizabeth both born in 1811, siblings Anne and Thomas. Isable's father may be James Dickson Davie born on the 27/2/1811 in Eyemouth, Berwick, his parents were Thomas Gillie and Agnes Purves.

I have a great great grandmother who emigrated to NZ in 1860. Her name is Isobella Gillie, born 14 April, 1838 (Whitsome & Hilton Parish) Berwickshire. I believe her fathers name to be James (two daughters and one son). Isobella died in Dunedin, NZ 20, Oct 1926).

Any information that may lead me back up the tree is welcomed. I am curious to learn if there may be a family connection to the Thomas Gillie (b 1775) or James Gillie/Mary Bookless mentioned above?

If anyone has any period photo's/images that characterises the parish/district that too would be appreciated. Thank you.

I am 99.9% positive that I have information on this family. John C.(Charles?)Gillie b. 18 Dec 1815 m Catherine ISABELLE McPherson abt 1840 in Guysborough, NS, then they and the children they had to that point left NS and followed the "tribal" migration of James and Ann Catherine (Whitman)McPherson, their children, sons in law (John Ruban and James Thomas Wilson -- brothers)(John C. Gillie) and their children and my great Grandfather Edmund McPherson. They went first to Boston then after the outbreak of the civil war continued on up through Vermont to the St. Lawrence then along what is now called the Heritage Highway on the north bank to Reach Township near York (now called Toronto. Then they purchased Canada Company lots in the Huron Tract (the south eastern shore of Lake Huron and far inland)and homesteaded in the autumn of 1852. In 1882 John and Isabelle and surviving family moved to Kittson County, Minnesota homesteading the Township of Thompson.
After recently having been contacted by some descendants in the US I was looking for information on the previous generation in Guysborough when I found your notice. I would be interested in siblings and descendants and parents of John C.

John Joseph Gillie was born in Guysborough, Nova Scotia on 16 January 1862 to Isabella McPHERSON and John GILLIE.
His father was born in England and emigrated to Nova Scota where he met and married his wife.
John (Jack) moved to Ontario in 1868 with his parents and brothers and sisters:
James Gillie
William Gillie
Sarah Gillie married P.H.KONZEN
Annie Gillie married William COSENS
Mary Gillie married J.C. PROSSER
In 1882 they moved to Kittson County, MN homesteading in the Thompson Township.

On 3 October 1884 at the age of 22 years, Jack married Elizabeth COSENS. The farm they homesteaded is Section 34 of Thompson. For the first few years of marriage they lived in a cabin west of the present farmstead. Nine children were born into this family:

Alice Gillie married Elmer BRANDENBURG
Jane Gillie married Lewis HOLTEN
John Gillie (died in infancy)
Marjory Gillie married Phillip O'HEARN
Andrew Gillie (died at age 10 yrs)

John and Elizabeth now have 23 grandchildren:
Gordon, Blaine, Russell, Nedra, Helen, Kathleen, Lucille, Donald, Ira, Dale, Forrest, Kenneth, Elizabeth, Dorothy, Jane, Phyllis, Phillip, John, Paul, Rose, Mary, Allen, and Ruth.

Jack preceeded his wife in death on 1 March 1912 at age 50 years. Elizabeth died 28 May 1916 at age 48 years. Both are buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hallock, MN.

Some of our descendants left Nova Scotia and settled in MN also Spokane WA.
a James Gillie sailed from London UK on ship Minerva 1774 and landed in Penn. PA. We believe he became a Loyalist and settled in Pictou NS.He then came to Guysborough NS.

I have been following the Gillie ancestry/descendants from Nova Scotia, Canada, and have a "James Lothrop Gillie", born abt. 1850, son of John C. Gillie who moved from Nova Scotia to Hallock, Minn. James then moved to Spokane, WA, and had a son Clarence Elmers Gillie.
Have more on ancestry, but none on descendants.
Are we looking at the same James, etc.?

I think I have traced an ancestor back to Berwickshire County, Scotland (which is on the border with England) and I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who is also interested in the GILLIE name from anywhere in that county.

Specifically, I've gone back to the following marriage: George PAE & Isabel GILLIE, married 29 Aug 1789, Coldingham, Berwick, Scotland. I believe they had the following children (probably among others): Robert, dob unknown; Isabel, b.1791; Elizabeth, b.1797; and Margaret, b.1802.

I'm not 100% sure but I think this is the Isobel Gillie (found in the online IGI) : Isobel Gillie, Birth: 20 APR 1770 Eyemouth, Berwick, Scotland, Father: James Gillie, Mother: Mary Bookless

Etheleen Gillie Dehart was my grandfather's sister. His name was John Buck Gillie and was married to Minnie Matthews Gillie. John Buck Gillie had two children, Charles Matthews Gillie d. Jan. 12, 2002 and Nancye Gillie Shelton now living in West Point ,Va. My father remembered and spoke well of Grant Dehart and I have a copy of a partial family tree/history that Ethellen had worked on . My Father said he thought she worked at ? or gathered the info. at the National archives. I guess we are cousins.

I am in the processing of researching the Gillie (also spelled Gilley) members of my family tree. I know very little in this regard except that my grandfather was named Leo K. Gillie and he was born on July 10, 1891 in Ashe Co, NC and died May 9, 1947. His mother's name was Mattie Gillie and her place of birth was also Ashe County, North Carolina. At the time of his death my grandfather was living in Connelly Springs, NC. If anyone out there thinks they are related to these Gillies I would love to hear from you.

I have Andrew Gillie born 1778, son of James Gillie and Mary Bookless. Andrew married Jean Collin in 1795 and had a daughter Jane Gillie in 1833 who married William Purves. Both JAne and William died in 1880. All lived in Eyemouth, Berwickshire, Scotland.

STRUCK BY A STEEL BEAM.

William GILLIE, a carpenter, who lives at Twentieth and Wyandotte streets, was probably mortally injured by a falling steel girder at Tenth and Mulberry streets about 9 o'clock this morning. The beam was being raised into place by a derrick. GILLIE was working in the second story of the building. The rope holding the girder broke and the girder struck BILLIE on the back of the head. He was knocked against a joist and his forehead mashed.

The police ambulance took him to St. Joseph's hospital. Dr. W. C. WEST, assistant police surgeon, will operate on him this afternoon.

I have Gillie attached to my tree.Anne or Annie Aitchison my G G Great Grandfathers Sister married a William Gillie at Duns 11th June 1872. William Gillie had been married before to Ann Paxton (i presume she passed away?)

They lived at Mordington on the Scottish Border, then Edrom Duns, then Fogo near Duns. They had 5 Children. William also had two children from his marraige to Jane Paxton.

There are a lot of Gillie Graves in Duns Cemetery.
