As a child I knew Annie Jean, Wanda, and Billy Pat
quite well. Our families often visited. My dad
and Marshall were kin; we were quite fond of them.
They lived down on Clear Lake then. I taught Billy
and LuJauna's older daughter, Debbie, in first grade.
Cecelia and family lives in Foreman now. She teaches
in New Boston.

Daddy's mother was a Gills; her
father was Robert
Washington, older brother of TJ. Daddy's mom had
several old pictures; one of Robert's and TJ's mother
and your ggg? Gra'ma Eason. I've offered a copy to
several of the family, but so far, no takers!! They
just may not be in to finding family. I did give one
to Linda Gills King plus data about Oscar and Anthony
but have lost touch with her. If she has not passed
that on to you, I'll be happy to share.

There is no evidence that Robert's and TJ's mother
came to McCurtain County. I believe she died in Arkansas.
However, he son by Francis Brady did. He settled around
Idabel. I have a few pictures and his family data.
Several descendants live around Idabel.

Please reply to west04@wildblue.net.

Ruth

Hi, Kathy (Jenske?),
I completed what I could find on Gills family, prepared a
book, and placed it in Tom Museum. Next time you're down
to see Marshall, take a look.

Can't remember how much I had on ancesters when you and
your mom were by. Thomas and Robert Gills father was Oscar.
His mother was Theresian Piles. After Oscar's death she
married Francis Brady. Oscar's father was Anthony Gills.
He lived in Missouri a while; found on 1850 Montgomery CO
AR census.

Ruth West Murray

cora was my great aunt on my dad's side. there was also an uncle bob that my dad really loved. my grandfather was william oscar gills. he died at the age of about 32. i have traced my gills line back to the civil war and that is where i lose it. the story goes that my great-great-grandfather went to the war and never returned. his wife came to tome, Oklahoma and married a brady.
I would like to here from you if you would like to help pick up the "line". by the way my dad's name is Robert Willis Gills and he was born at Tom and married stella mae stirewalt. its been a while since i worked on this but maybe i can get in the swing of it again now that i have retired. looking forward to hearing from you, LGK

This is a long shot. I am restoring a house in Buckingham called highview. It is the Gills home. A man named James Gills owned it. His son John was a member of the 4th VA Calvary, K Company. He was killed. His sister Elizabeth or Virginia married Wesley William Allen. The house transferred to them. My wife jas done the reasearch with the help of my uncle. My aunt is a Flippen from Cumberland. There ended up being a family tie, although distant. The Flippens and Phaups have come up often. John Gills is listed on a confederate pensioners site. I do not know if this is the same family or not. I do know they had friendships with people from Cumberland Courthouse which is about 20 miles away.

An Anthony Gills from Virginia is my ggg grandfather. I have little
info on him. He is on the 1850 AR Census with his son, Oscar,
Oscar's wife and child, and the wife's father. I also found where
he served in the Missouri Militia. That's it! Oscar served in the
Confederate Army but apparently was killed shortly after enlistment.
A woman sent an e-mail that Anthony had a brother named Anderson.
Her source was an elderly relative. I know there was an Anthony Sr.
in Virginia, Amelia CO, but I have been unable to make the tie.
I do have some data about Oscar's wife, and of course, his descendants. Would love to hear from you if this sounds promising.

Rebecca,
The Robert Gills you speak of was a brother to my Grandfather William (Mack) Gills. From the information that I have , they were sons of Benjamin Gills and Mary Neel. Benjamin and Mary were in Bland County in 1880. Benjamin died in Mercer Co. in 1909. I found several Gills in Tazewell Co. starting in 1850. It seems they came from North Carolina. They lived in the part of Tazewell Co, that later became Bland Co.
In 1880 in Bland Co there were Benjamin Gills and Joseph Gills who I think were brothers. Next door to one of them lived Pierce King. There were also several Jones famlies. You may want to check them out.
The only difference I find is that my Great Uncle Robert Gills married Sarah E. Scott Dec. 20, 1888
Here are the children of Benjamin and Mary (Neel) Gills.

Francis Gills
Julia Gills
James Thomas Gills married Eliza A. Corner Aug. 21, 1881
Robert Gills married Sarah E. Scott Dec. 20, 1888
Samuel H. Gills married Mollie Hicks Aug. 7, 1889
George W. Gills married Loly Belcher Jan. 8, 1899
William (Mack) Gills married Mattie Florence Hubbard Feb. 5, 1896
Sarah E. Gills married John R. Taylor Jan 1887
All married in Mercer Co.W.Va
There may have been another daughter Mary E. Gills that married Charles Franklin in Bland Co. April 03, 1879. Charles lived next door.

My Grandfather Mack Gills worked for American Coal Co. They lived all their life around Montcalm, McComas, and Rock. He died in 1950, when I was five years old.
Wanda

Hi all! Not sure who reads this anymore. This is Jaclyn. I finally took the time to write out and organize all that was written on this board. For this thread in particular there are, in fact, 2 Lucy's way back when...The first is the second child of John Gills (Amelia Co., VA) THEN, the last child of John - PLEASANT named one of his daughters Lucy...I'm guessing after his older sister, thereby creating a namesake possiblity that the person here was looking for. Heck, John was passed down - why not Lucy? ;)
It looks like the name Pleasant might have been passed along also - on a family tree posting there is a Pleasant Gills, son of a John Gills that comes much later than my line has them listed.

More later as we begin sifting through all this again. Keep in touch! Sam - I lost your email, but we've added to the line in a round about way (HE is a Baumann by name, GILLS by apearance!) Send your email and I'll attach photos!!!

DATA: Gills, W. listed in 1929 Richmond, VA yearbook

DATA Message RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA).

This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes). It includes the following name(s):

Gills, W.

There's over 1,900 records, so I've only listed the name(s), as it appears in the yearbook in this message.

If you would like to view all of the information that I extracted from the yearbook, I have uploaded it to my freepages genealogy web site. The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...

Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Please note that my site contains free genealogy related data & IS NOT a "commercial" or "advertising" site. Until I can get back out & do research on my own families, my hobby is posting free genealogy related data online that may help other reseachers. I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site (including information others send to me to share on the site), not just data about the families I am researching (therefore I can't answer questions about everyone I have listed on the site). I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .

Susan :)
Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

My grandfather's name was Clifford Covert Gills & he was born in 1907.
I'm the 5th generation in the same house on Pine St. Grove City, Pa.
This would be a wonderful surprise if true.
We have a really small family and would be happy to know anyone else.
BTW....Clifford was a avid pilot, owned a Aronica Champ and was one of the first 100 to solo at the Grove City airport.

Dave Gills
724 458 0205
