Jan. 25, 1815.
Several graves here marked with native stone.

Curious about the early death year, as Callaway Co. did not exist, I posted a query

reply;

An uneducated guess would be the original hand written copy looked like a "1" but was actually a "7" .

I don't know the earliest recorded tombstone in Callaway Co., but 1815 is too early for the county.

The location of the cemetery would be southeast of Fulton, near Dixie- and the Second Mt Tabor Church Cemetery

Use the map at

http://www.rootsweb.com/~mocallaw/home.html

Follow highway 54 south from Fulton to the 2nd left hand road turnoff, follow that road to a left hand turn, Mt Tabor is shown

B&B said " The first Mt Tabor Church was in the corner of pasture near the Johnston home not far from Dixie".

Betty

Thank you Mary. This is great info for me. Yes I see Gilley spelled dif ways. From the info on Ancestry.com (if it is correct), I do go back to Francis Gilley Sr.- then to his son George - then William "Buck" Gilley - then John W Gilley - then my GGrandma Anna John Gilly who married Bill Flanagan. Anna & Bill moved to Henderson Co TN 1888.
So your Gideon was a brother to my William "Buck". Write me at rfortune@midsouth.rr.com. You are invited to the Flanagan reunion Sept 25th in Lexington TN. Where do you live? I live in Memphis TN.
Penny

Hello Ben, I have just recently learned of my connection to Mary Ann (Gilly) Young[b.1803,GA:d.1862]. She was my gg-grandmother, married to George Remer Young[@1824, GA]. They came to Bossier Parish in 1849. They had six children, all born in GA and who all came with them. The youngest, James Ellis was my g-grandfather and moved on up to AR where he died between 1926-30.
Do you show any connection with mine?.
Thanks and happy hunting.
chris

Re: Anna John Gilly Flanagan

I am from a Gideon Gilley born ca 1789 VA - probably in Henry Co VA. He is on the 1850 Grundy Co Tennessee census. In 1830s he lived in Smith Co TN (later Cannon Co but right on line with Dekalb). 1835 he and son William are wittness on land sell for my Peter Turney. Peter Turney's son Henry (b 1815TN) married about this time Minerva Gilley the d/o Gideon. The Turneys moved 1835 to Van Buren Co Arkansas - 1850 Minerva Gilley Turney had died, but on census of Van Buren Co AR are her sister Lucinda Gilley Cornwell, brother Spencer Gilley.
Spencer Gilley moved to Lawrence Co MO - died there 1859. His brother Isaac was living in Lawrence Co MO, brother William was back in Cannon Co TN.

Anyway.....
1820 Virginia census
Gilley, Francis Jr Henry County
Gilly, Francis Sr Henry Co
Giley, Joseph Henry Co
Gilley - Benjamin, George, Peter, Richard Henry Co
I think this is all the same family, just different ways to spell the name.

1830 Virginia Census
Henry Co VA
Gilley, Benjamin, Francis L., Francis Jr., George, Joseph, Mary, Peter, Richard, and William are all on page 193
page 192 has Benjamin Gilley

1810 reconstructed Tennessee census
for Warren County (Cannon came out of that section) from 1812 tax list, in Joseph Ellege's district
Gilley, Charles
Gilley, Edward
Gilly, Daniel
and on the 1812 Rutherford Co Tn tax list - Jesse Gilly
(again, I think these people are related, just different spellings of the name)

1830 Warren Co TN census
Giddian, George, Edward, Daniel Gilly (Giddian is my Gideon)

1840 Tennessee census
all from Cannon County:
Edward, Elijah, George, Gideon, Jesse, John, and William Gilly (Gideon is mine, William is his son).

Mary Turney Miller

Re: Gilly of Arkansas

There is a Gilly/Gilley family 1850s and earlier in Van Buren Co Arkansas (area later Cleburne County).

Minerva Gilley married Henry Turney ca 1834 in Smith Co TN, 1835 to VBC AR, she was dead by the 1850 VBC AR census, but her husband and 4 sons are there. Also there is her sister and family - Lucinda Gilley Cornwell, and brother Spencer Gilley with sister Editha living in his house. Sometime in 1850s Spencer moved to Lawrence Co MO where he married, then died in 1859, his brother Isaac was also in Lawrence as was sister Editha Adamson, brother William was left behind in Cannon Co TN. These are the children of Gideon Gilley of the 1850 Grundy Co TN census.

There were two more sisters - Lavisa, and Susan who married Jacob Dykes in Grundy Co TN.

There are several Gilleys in the 1830 Warren Co TN census - this area later much became Cannon Co TN. I know some of them in mid 1830s moved to Illinois, besides the groups going to Arkansas and MO.
I would not be surprized to find some of them ended up in Texas.

Gideon Gilley was born ca 1789 in VA - probably in Henry Co VA where in 1820 census can be found
Joseph Giley
Benjamin Gilley
Francis Gilley Jr.
George Gilley
Peter Gilley
Richard illey
Francis Gilly SR
many of these are still in Henry Co VA 1830 census records.....

1820 Henry Co VA census
gilley, Francis Jr.
Gilly, Francis Sr
Giley, Joseph
Gilley - Benjamin, George, Peter, Richard
(see the difference in spelling, think it probably the same family)

1810 reconstructed census of Tennessee
Charles Gilley - Warren Co TN from 1812 tax list, in Joseph Ellege's district
Edward Gilley - Warren Co 1812 tax list, in Joseph Ellege's district
Daniel Gilly - Warren Co 1812 tax list, in Jsoeph Ellege's district
Jesse Gilly - Rutherford Co 1812 tax list.

So that gives you some places to look....

Mary Turney Miller

I do not know of a Hypolite Gilly but I am a Gilly from New Orleans and have not traced my tree very far. I am interested in any Gilly information that you have which may make a connection. My most distant Gilly is my grandfather, Lionel Emile Gilly. I believe his father was Emile Gilly. Thanks in advance for any information you may be able to provide. I have worked extensively on my family tree but I am at a dead end if you pardon the pun.

Todd

I am looking for my half brother Hayward Curt Gilly. His mother's name is Olga but I do not know her Maiden name. She is from Germany. My father," Jesse James Dennison": met her while stationed over there around 1953 and married her. They moved to Litchfield, Kentucky, where I believe Hayward was born. He was abopted by a Gilly in about 1960. Would love to here from anyone with information. Hayward may or may not know he is abopted.

Andrew Jackson "Jack" GILLY

I'm looking for information about Andrew Jackson "Jack" GILLY, b. bet. 1837 and 1847 in either Tennessee, Alabama, or possibly Virginia. Jack married Malissa Shipp in Texas County, Missouri in 1868 and is shown in the 1870 and 1880 censuses for Jackson Twp. with her and daughter Laura J. (my ggrandmother). Malissa later married George Worlow and is shown in the 1900 census as having been married to him for 14 years, so Jack was apparently gone by 1886. Curiously, Jack claimed in the 1870 census to have been born in Tennessee and in the 1880 census in Alabama, with father from NC and mother from VA. The only Jackson Gilly I have found of the correct vintage is one born to Leftwich and Mary Gilly in Henry Co, VA in 1845. Any clues about the origin or disappearance of this mysterious man would be most appreciated!

Hi Ben,
I contacted you about my two children (boy and girl). The Gilly connections is with their biological father's family. I've learned that their great-great-grandmother was Elise Marie Gilly who died in New Orleans on November 17, 1960. Elise was the daughter of Louis Adolphe Gilly, Sr. and Louise Aimee Bouis. Louis Adolphe Gilly, Sr. was the son of Adolphe Gilly and Rosa Marant. That is as far as I have gotten. I am interested in anything about this family.
Thanks!
Margo

Hi Todd,

You said your grandfather is Lionel Emile Gilly? Do you know where he lived and do you have a birth year for him? Or, better yet, how old are you? Let me tell you what I have.... My Great-Grandfather, Emile J. Gilly, named his son Emile Jr. and he also had a son, named Lionel Gilly. Of course Lionel's middle name could have been Emile, for obvious reasons. I'm not sure but I heard Lionel lived in Texas, but don't hold me to that. Does any of this help you? If this is the same line then we are related. My grandfather and your great-grandfather were brothers. Please keep in touch and let me know how your search is going and if this is of any help. You can e-mail me directly at badge_622@yahoo.com.

Jamie

I do not have Robert F. Gilly in my database. Do you know if he was born and/or lived in New Orleans, LA. My Gilly are French from New Orleans, LA with the immigrant ancestor Hypolite Gilly coming to Louisina in about 1827.
