Jeanette Sims Gilmer Jeanette Sims Gilmer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and distinguished educator passed away peacefully on Saturday July 19, 2008. She was 73 years old. Jeanette was born in Mississippi and moved to Los Angeles, California at the age of 18. She graduated with a BA from the California State University of Los Angeles and was a teacher of kindergarten, first and third grades for 35 years at Towne Avenue Elementary school. Jeanette loved spending time with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed letting people know that she was thinking about them through telephone calls, cards, and small gatherings. Jeanette had several hobbies, however, her favorites were flower arranging, bridge, traveling, and watching the UCLA and Los Angeles Laker basketball games. Jeanette was known for the kindness and compassion that she showed others and will always be remembered for her beautiful smile. Jeanette is survived by her husband Fenton Gilmer; 2 daughters; 4 grandchildren; 4 siblings; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 28, 2008 at 11am at Riviera United Methodist Church, 375 Palos Verdes Blvd, Redondo Beach, California. A graveside service will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 S. Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Green Hills Mortuary (310) 831-0311
