Stephen Gilmore of Greene Cedar Co., MO

Is anyone else researching any lines connected with Stephen Gilmore, who married Mary Ann Wadlow in 1850, homesteaded Cedar Co., MO, and was killed by bushwackers in 1857? I have thus far been unable to find his parentage, although our family lore maintains his mother or gr-mother was a Cherokee Indian (possibly from VA).
