If anyone is interested in Gilroy DNA testing please contact me at kaybee930 (at) aol.com

We have 2 participants to date and I would like to focus on this project in 09. They are fairly similar in DNA markers - the interesting thing is one line came to the US from Ireland in the 1870s while the other someone ended up in Jamaica by at least 1852 according to birth records. I have recently learned that more Gilroys from my family (my mother's paternal line) came over from Ireland that we originally thought. A group we thought stayed in Ireland were instead out in Freeland PA (sisters of Bridget Gilroy Clark - married Walsh, Maughan and Dougherty, I believe) and also in Duryea PA (both Luzerne County. My family was in Avoca PA and another brother's family was in Pittston PA. In Duryea I found Bridget and her brothers John and Michael, and possibly Martin.

We also have information that some uncles came to PA a number of years earlier, therefore the family could be more widespread that Avoca, Duryea and Freeland. I would love to get other Gilroys from PA tested to see if we can figure out how many Gilroy lines there were, especially since we found one unexpectedly in Jamaica.
