Hi: I believe that my ggg-grandfather was Hugh Gilroy. Not sure of his DOB. Have info that his wife's name is Mary C. Had a son Denis (mgg)who had 2 sons - Frank and Joseph. Are you somehow related to Joseph? They all lived in NYC and then Joseph (married Margaret)& family moved to NJ.

Ann Marie Morante (nee GILROY) Bloomfield, NJ
Hi. My name is Ann Marie Morante (nee Gilroy) Eileen is my Aunt. She married Frank Gilroy (my fathers brother) and she is still alive and living on LI. Aunt Joan and Cecilia are still alive too. If Eileen know that Eileen is related (neice) to an actor then you found the right family. I'm sorry that I cannot give out their contact information without their consent but please contact me and I will see what I can do. I'm so excited that I found your message. Please e-mail at annmariemorante@verizon.net - sorry it took so long to see your message. Annie

Patrick,

John Cameron Gilroy, the namesake in which Gilroy, CA was named after was not from England, he was from Scotland. He jumped ship from the Scotish Yard, liking the climate much better in Gilroy then in Scotland. I am a decendent of his and in all my extensive knowledge, he was a very giving man whom's character did not posses that of a horse theif. Where on earth did you hear such a ridiculos thing?

Tiffany Gilroy

Bridget Gilroy/Ned Neary near Bangor Erris, Mayo

Bridget Gilroy was married to Ned (Edmond)Neary and lived in/near Bangor Erris, County Mayo Ireland. The birth records from Bangor show they had four kids after 1860. We believe that Ned (Edmond) was one of the three original Neary brothers on Shragraddy, listed as Nevy in Griffith's Evaluation of 1856, as Thomas, Anthony and Edmond. We also believe Ned (Edmond) and Bridget Gilroy Neary settle in Shranaharry, Bangor Erris and had at least 1 son, Michael (Ned) who married Bridget Collins and their children were John b. 1891, Katie b. 1893, Annie & Mary. Michael (Ned) died just after the census of 1901.

If this matches up with anything you are researching, or if you have more information on Bridget Gilroy, please let me know.

Thanks for reading.

Denise
Upper Darby, PA

My Patrick james Gilroy was born about 1880 in county cavan Ireland and died on april 24 1949 in New York City U.S. He married my great grandmother maryellen glennon. Not sure what year. I do know he was 20 years older than her. Patrick was married previously and she apparently died giving birth to their first child. Both died. I believe that is when he moved to the U.S. Patrick and maryellen had 6 children. Let me know if you know of anything.
thanks
Corrie

Jude 22

I notice you are interested in a Hugh Gilroy bn c1820. I am also researching Hugh Gilroy bn, i beleive, in 1818. From what i have learnt he came to Scotland c1868 with his wife Mary Currans and some of their children. He died in 1888 in East Lothian. Hugh appears to be a popular family name as was Owen and Denis. I have records which show they resided in Leitrim, Hugh's father was Denis, a wool weaver and i am currenlty trying to progress this. If you wish any further info please get in touch.

My brick wall! I know that she was born Adelia Bella Baker and was married first to Hiram Bullwinkle probably around 1881 or perhaps 1882. He died sometime before 1896. Sometime after his death and before 1918 she married a Mr. Gilroy who either died before 1918 or they divorced as in 1918 she was married to a Mr. Flemming.
Anyone have any ideas? I hired a researcher a number of years ago who could find nothing.

All we know is that Hugh was from somewhere on the north coast of Ireland, near Sligo Town. His wife was Bridget Casey. Sons we know of were Edward (Ned), Peter, Michael, possibly Hugh, Owen/John. They did not all come to the US, some stayed in Ireland and one at least had a large family.

I keep searching! I am hoping I will find them in church records. I am going to search Leitrim near the Sligo border. There are quite a few Gilroys in Leitrim.

Gilroy DNA

If anyone is interested in Gilroy DNA testing please contact me at kaybee930 (at) aol.com

We have 2 participants to date and I would like to focus on this project in 09. They are fairly similar in DNA markers - the interesting thing is one line came to the US from Ireland in the 1870s while the other someone ended up in Jamaica by at least 1852 according to birth records. I have recently learned that more Gilroys from my family (my mother's paternal line) came over from Ireland that we originally thought. A group we thought stayed in Ireland were instead out in Freeland PA (sisters of Bridget Gilroy Clark - married Walsh, Maughan and Dougherty, I believe) and also in Duryea PA (both Luzerne County. My family was in Avoca PA and another brother's family was in Pittston PA. In Duryea I found Bridget and her brothers John and Michael, and possibly Martin.

We also have information that some uncles came to PA a number of years earlier, therefore the family could be more widespread that Avoca, Duryea and Freeland. I would love to get other Gilroys from PA tested to see if we can figure out how many Gilroy lines there were, especially since we found one unexpectedly in Jamaica.

Hugh as a Gilroy name is interesting. I don't have Hugh's in my other Irish lines (McHale, Kelly, Devlin, Harkins, etc.)

I have been working out of town so haven't had chance to respond to posts and emails about the project. I will in the next few days. For the Gilroy Y dna project you need a male of the Gilroy surname. I had to round up one of my first cousins.

Daughters, who do inherit dna from their father, do NOT inherit the specific Y dna markers that are passed down fairly unchanged from father to son.

On the other hand, both sons and daughters inherit maternal mtDNA from their mother, but only the daughters pass that on to the next generation.

I am very interested in participating in the Gilroy DNA Project. One question...what test do you recommend? There are so many choices. I want to have the correct information to make my connections to the Gilroy's. However, not sooo much information that I can't understand it all! I will be tracing the female line to the Gilroy clan. Later, I need to trace the male line for my Mother's line. Any suggestion would be so helpful. Thank you! patty

My great grandfather was Richard Christie Gilroy, born around 1872 and his father was Edward Gilroy. My paper search has dead-ended with Edward who may have been born in 1852.

I'm hoping someone here may recoginize one of these two names.

Thx!
