Looking for confirmation on the possibility that Peter 1733-31 Jan 1786 could be a son Johannes H. Gingerich. I have several theories about the ancestry of Johannes H. Gingerich in which links to many other lineages. Perhaps somebody out there might work with me on resolving this.

Hello all,

To anyone who might be researching Jesse and/or John Gingerich of Kalona, Iowa, right now there is an old photo up for auction on a certain very well-known online bidding website. There are no people in the photograph, but it shows a farmhouse and has an inscription relating to Jesse and John Gingerich being lumber dealers. The date is circa 1910.
I always hate to see these kind of items lost to the collectors' market. Hopefully there are some descendants on this list who can save it, or perhaps some distant relatives who might consider bidding and then donating the item to an appropriate archives or library in Iowa.

MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Darlene M. Gingerich, 73, of 117 W. Third St., Muscatine, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, after an extended illness.

Memorial services are 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty. Burial will be at Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Gingerich was born on Feb. 24, 1929, in Tipton, the daughter of Ed and Luella Foote Buroughs. She married Paul Gingerich on March 9, 1947, in Tipton.

She attended Tipton High School.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the West Liberty Country Club.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Phillip Gingerich and his wife, Kathy, and Charles Gingerich and his wife, Cindy, all of West Liberty; a daughter, Luanne Johnson and her husband, Greg, of North Liberty; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three cousins, Larry, Jim and Janet.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

CORALVILLE, Iowa -- Dorothy A. Gingerich, 81, formerly of Coralville, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at the Muscatine Care Center in Muscatine from complications of cancer.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Monday, at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.

Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. until services Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to Muscatine Care Center or Beacon of Hospice in the Quad Cities.

Mrs. Gingerich was born on May 28, 1921 in rural Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest and Emma Ackerman Drake. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1939. She married Delbert L. Gingerich on Aug. 27, 1939, in Iowa City.

From 1965 until retiring in 1990, She worked for the City of Coralville in the Water Department.

She was a member of V.F.W. Post 3949, Walter Johnson Post 721 of the Coralville American Legion, Eagles Auxiliary, and the Moose Lodge.

She enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing euchre and spending as much time with her family.

Survivors include one son, Jerry Gingerich and his wife, Phyllis, of Chicago, Ill.; one daughter, Judy Smith and her husband, Robert, of Muscatine; four grandchildren, Randy Smith and his wife, Darla, Sherry Miller and her husband Keith, Dan Smith and his special friend, Shelly Spoltman, and Jessica Smith; five great-grandchidlren; and two sisters, Esther Hemsted Lincoln of Lone Tree and Hazel Lamb of Bull Head City, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Harold Drake.

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa - Paul J. Gingerich, 83, of Lone Tree, formerly of West Liberty, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2008, Henderson-Barker Funeral home, West Liberty.

Paul was born on January 5, 1925, in Kalona, the son of Joe P. and Lula Stuztman Gingerich. He married Darlene Mae Foote on March 9, 1947, in Tipton.

He attended Fairview-Evergreen School in Kalona.

He farmed in the West Liberty area and later operated Gingerich Construction in West Liberty.

He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Liberty and a lifetime member of the West Liberty Country Club.

He is survived by two sons, Phil Gingerich and wife, Kathy, and Charles Gingerich and wife, Cindy, all of West Liberty; a daughter, Luanne Johnson and husband, Greg, of Riverside; six grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Pat, Holly, Josh and Becky; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Edna Dolan of Sigourney, Marge Gingerich of Kalona and Leona Boller of Kalona.; two brothers, Delmar Gingerich of McGregor and Don Gingerich of Stover, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Vesta Miller and Maretta Yoder.

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa - Ralph G. Gingerich, 65, of rural Columbus Junction, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at Washington County Hospital in Washington.

Services will be at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction. Burial will be at the Kalona Cemetery.

Mr. Gingerich was born Aug. 5, 1935, near Riverside, the son of Advin and Hattie Ledman Gingerich. He married Evelyn Swailes on Dec. 12, 1964, in Lone Tree.

He worked as a mechanic and farmed in the Columbus Junction area.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; five sons, Virgil Gingerich and his wife, Jill, of West Branch, Darrell and his wife, Linda, of Wilton, Duane and his wife, Yvette, of rural Columbus Junction, Steve of Brighton, and Bob of Washington; a daughter, Vickie Gingerich of Maryland; two brothers, Orval Gingerich and his wife, Pauline and Glen Gingerich, all of Wellman; a sister, Linda Zilmer and her husband, Lowell, of Marion; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Terry and Jeffrey; two brothers, Leroy and Lawrence; a sister, Mary Fritz; and a granddaughter.

His father may have been Peter Gingerich of Lebanon Twp., Lancaster Co. He may have had a brother Jacob, Christian, Peter and Tobias.

I am researching my Gingerich-Gingrich-Kingery ancestors and am seeking to find connections among the various Gingerich-Gingrich, Guengerich, Kingery, etc. lines from Europe and America. I descend from Christian Gingerich, b. ca 1718, Switzerland, d. 1778, Lancaster Co, PA (more info on Christian can be found in a WorldConnect entry at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...). Christian was among several Mennonite Gingerich-Gingriches who settled in Lancaster Co, PA in the 1720s and later. More on the history of these Gingerich-Gingrich-Guengeriches can be found at http://www.gameo.org/encyclopedia/contents/G563ME.html. My particular Gingerich family later adopted the more anglicized versions of the name - Gingery, Kingery, etc.

In an effort to further explore my Gingerich-Kingery origins, I started a dna project for the Gingerich-Guengerich-Kingery-etc surname and had a Kingery cousin of mine do the testing. He has matched up with another line of Gingeriches (that of Yost Gingerich) from Lancaster Co, PA and testing from another line is pending. The results of the project (http://gingerich.gendna.net/results.htm) have been quite interesting and I'm hoping to get participants from other lines and from those with more recent European origins.

I would also like to know more about the origin of the Gingerich-Guengerich surname itself. An early form of the name appears to have been Gundrich. This has made me wonder if there was a possible connection back to Gunderic, king of the Vandals (a Germanic tribe) in the early 5th century (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunderic). Of course, I'm not sure if such a connection could ever be proven.

I look forward to hearing from other Gingerich-Gingrich-Guengerich-Kingery researchers.

I had the Gingerich's born in Hesse. I did not know they came through Canada. Do you know where? I have Joseph Cephus Randall's father as born in Canada but don't know if that is a census error. They could have possibly travelled together.

I have noticed a lot of Taylor/Randall connections from Ohio to present.

I can't help a whole lot because I am near a dead end on the Randall name but am willing to share what I have.

Also John and Anna Gingerich are born in Hesse, Germany. They apparently were in Canada first and had their first two children there. I believe their headstones are viewable on the Butler Co. site, Simonson Chapel Cemetery.

Hi, I have one Mary Ellen as Sister to Christian who never married and one a daughter to Christian who married Joseph Cephus Randall. I have Christian's wife as Mary Jane Miller who is granddaughter of Isaiah Orr and Nancy Staggs, my 4th great grandparents. Mary Ellen Gingerich Randall is born 9 Jun 1865 and died 1922. I think Mary Ellen's grandfather William H. Miller was a teacher in Jacksonburg.
The Randalls are married into the Staggs, Smith and Taylor families years before. Also Barbara, Christian's sister married William Orr, grandson of Isaiah Orr and Nancy Staggs.

Daniel Gingrich

I am searching for Daniel Gingrich's parents. Daniel was born abt 1832, in Lancaster, Pa. I found a post in Ancestry World Tree Project with info about Daniel. It looks very promising, but is incomplete. It states,"Much more info page 48, Mildred's book." I am dying to see page 48 in Mildred's book as it might hold the key to our Daniel. Bob, I am attempting to research the Gingerich, Gingrich, Gingrey, etc. family. According to the information that we have, our gg grandfather was Daniel Gingrich. He was born around l832 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. When he was about 15 years old, he ran away from home and settled in Baden, N.C., near Wilmington, N.C. As far as we know, he never had anymore contact with his birth family. While in N.C., he married a N. C. girl named Sarah Jane Parker. They had 2 children: James Henry and Sarah Ellen. He acquired abt. 200 acres of land around Wilmington. He left Jane and the children to enlist in the Civil War. The last memory that James Henry had of his father was him walking down a dirt road and waving goodbye as he left for war. He supposedly was killed crossing a river in Virginia as he was returning home from the war. His wife and children never heard from him again. She remarried and moved to South Carolina, abandoning the 200 acres of land. It was never reclaimed.
As you can see, we have little to go on in our search for Daniel's parents. We do have records from the National Archives stating that he joined the Confederate Army and one month later deserted to join the Union Army. However, the Civil War records state that he entered as a private and was discharged as a private. There is a grave marker for him in Montmorence, S.C., but the grave is empty as his body was never recovered.
I know this is lengthy, but do you by chance have any information that might lead me in the right direction in my quest for answers?

Below is the biographical sketch of Jacob GINGERICH that was included in the 1884 history of Callaway Co, Missouri. (see this link:

JACOB GINGERICH is one of the prominent farmers of this township. He was born in Perry county, Pennsylvania, on April 12, 1848. His parents, Lewis K., and Caroline Sherman [sic - actually Shuman] Gingerich, were also born in the same State. Jacob grew to maturity in his native county, and spent his youth on his father’s farm, during
the course of which he acquired a good common school education.
On May 12, 1871, he married Miss Martha Rosensteel, daughter of
Mr. John Rosensteel, of the same county. On his removal to Missouri,
he bought a tract of 400 acres which he now operates, and of which 360 are fenced, with 300 in pasture and cultivation. He occupies a fine
two-story residence, has a good barn, a suitable grain-house, wagon-shed, corn-crib and a fine young orchard bearing all the hardy varieties of fruit trees adapted to this climate and latitude. Mr. and Mrs. Gingerich have an interesting family of five children, namely: Jennie B., Della C., Lewis H., John and Elwood. For a man of his age he has been very successful,and promises still better for the future.

I am searching for the parents of Daniel Gingery/Gingry/Gingerich etc. Daniel was our gg-grandfather. All we know of him is he was born abt 1846, ran away from home, PA, at abt the age of 15, settled in NC, married, had 2 children, and died in the Civil War. As far as we know, he had no contact with his family after he ran away. We have searched in vain to find his parents. We think his father might have been a harness maker. Could our Daniel possibly have been in your family? Any help would certainly be appreciated.

From what I have, There are two Christian Gingerichs in Butler county at the same time. The one you have is the one that was born in Canada but is listed as PA by some offspring. His mother in law is a daughter of Isaiah Orr, my 4 gr grandfather and his sister Barbara married my 3 gr grandfathers brother William Orr. Isaiah Orr was marrried to Nancy Staggs ca 1808 in Butler county. All lived, farmed, made wagons, etc in Jacksonburg, Ohio in 1800s. Many other connections to this family, some descendants.

I am looking for anyone who knows of the Veroncia Gingerich who married Adam Baum in 1752. Veroncia and Adam had children 1) Michael born in 1757 who married Margaret Ebersole 2) Daniel born in 1759 who married Catherine Fishburn. There are possibly other children. I am researching information on Harry C. Gingrich 1896-1966; he married Vera Cloe b. 1901. In the 1960's they lived in Indiana. They had no children. Is this Gingrich in you line?

Paul F. Gingerich of Noble County Indiana was killedApril 1, 1945, in the South Pacific during World War II. He is buried in the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines.

We are seeking information regarding his military and civilian life and especially locate any family members still living so we can send them the free photograhs of his grave site and the beautiful memorial in the Philippines.

We are seeking family and military information about servicemen from your county killed in the South Pacific during World War II. There are 17,206 Americans buried here and thousands more that are missing or buried at sea and are honored on the “Tablets of the Missing”. My wife and I visited the cemetery as visitors and left with a mission in our heart. We have been taking photographs of the graves of the Indiana servicemen buried here and have been uniting them (at no charge) with their family members in Indiana and across the United States. To receive the photo of your family member, neighbor or friend all you need is a working email address. We do not send them to regular mailing addresses due to the costs. Please help us find the families of the men that might still be living. Our project is only successful because of teamwork and your contributions are noted on our website. If you wish to help us we will be pleased to add your name to our ACKNOWLEDGMENT page on the website. The obituaries usually did not appear till to three months after the death date.

If you are not a genealogist you can help by just picking up the telephone directory and find someone with the same last name and give them a call. It has worked many times for us.

I just received a book about the Schottler,Swarzendruber , and Kauffman families of Iowa, Illinois and Missouri, 1833-1910. The book was printed in 1902. I have just posted on my website 11 unknown photographs from a family
album owned by a very kind cousin in Missouri. The only identification
we can find is that most of them are stamped on the back from a
photography studio in Perryville, PA. Given the age of these
pictures, I am assuming that this Perryville is the same place now
called Port Royal in Juniata Co. (There are 3 other modern Perryville
sites: Lycoming county, Clarion county, and Westmoreland county.)

If you recognize any of these PLEASE let me know. It's so frustrating
to have copies of great old photos, but no identification.

Aug. 30, 1917 - April 9, 2006

Mildred Sellers Gingerich, 88, Kokomo, died 3:30 a.m. Sunday, April 9, 2006, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 30, 1917, in Howard County, a daughter of Charles and Roxie (Dillman) Cox.

On Oct. 24, 1937, she married Harold Sellers, who preceded her in death Sept. 5, 1966. She married Oscar Gingerich Aug. 6, 1976, and he preceded her in death Feb. 25, 2001.

She was employed with J.C. Penny from 1966 to 1976.

She was a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church and attended Howard-Miami Mennonite Church.

Surviving are a son, Jerry Sellers and friend Connie Peterson and grandchildren Christopher Sellers and Tara and Cory Beals, all of Kokomo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hasler & Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown, with Pastor Randy Detweiler officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Howard-Miami Mennonite Church.
