Simon Girty ~ 1741-1818
Girty, Simon. 1741-1818. Loyalist partisan, scout, interpreter, b. near Harrisburg, Pa.
Captured as a boy by Senecca Iindians and lived among them; scout and interpreter for the Americans, 1774-1778; deserted in 1778 to the British; ambushed Colonel David Rogers on the Ohio River and captured 600,000 Spanish dollars and other valuable supplies; took part in William Crawford's defeat, 4-5 June 1782, and was present at the torture of Crawford; participated in the raid at Blue Licks, Ky., 19 August 1782; closely involved with the Delaware Indians; brother of James and George Girty.
