Re: Hello fellow Giugno Researchers

Hello! My grandfather, Michele Giugno, from Caltinassetta, arrived in the US in 1913 at the age of 23, went to Rochester, NY where his brother, Francesco, lived. My grandfather later moved to Connecticut and married my grandmother, after her 1st husband died, leaving her with 4 children. They then had 2 children, my dad John Giugno, and my Aunt Kaye. Anyone have information on Rochester Giugno's? I've never met any of them.

SIERINA ZORLASCHI GIUGNO

After going thtough some old photos that I found at my grandmother's home, i found a photo that had a name wrtten on the back. The name, SIERINA ZORLASCHI GIUGNO, is unknown to my grandmother, and so I do not know if it is a family friend or relative. The photo appears to be from pre-to-near 1900. My spelling of the name may be wrong due to the pencil writing has faded some. If this name sounds familiar to anyone, please let me know.

Hello Rosalie,
Sorry I don't have any info to help you. My Giungo's are from Town of Caltanisetta and all the info I have is their names: Cologera Guigno parents Michael Guigno & Michela Guarnera.

My only suggestion is checking the records the LDS church has microfilmed from Italy. You might find something on them. If you have questions how to access those records e-mail me back. Good Luck in your research.

Gwen Cascio

I'm sorry, but as far as I know, these are no relatives of mine, inasmuch as my name was misspelled. It is Kulick, not Kulic. My husband's family, as far as I know, moved to Jersey in early 1900's. My husbands Grandfather was Mark Kulick. Rosalie

DearGwen: Thank you for your response. It is deeply appreciated. You said that you can give me information on how to get LDS church records. I would appreciate if you can tell me how I can go about this. However, please send it to my e-mail address if you can. It took me almost 5 mins just to write out the address of this message board. If not, it will also be fine. Thanks again for your response. This is such a puzzle that I don't how I will ever be able to figure out. Was your family from Sicily. If it was, was it near Mistretta or Messina? She cooked for some family and maybe they were so kind to her that she used a member of the family name. I don't know for sure that she was from Mistretta, but I know definitely my Grandfather was from there.
Rosalie

Hi: I don't remember if I sent you an e-mail about Marcelina Giugno. I just happened to look and saw your post. Mistretta, Sicily is in Messina (hope I spelled it right). Now, I don't know if my grandmother was really a Giugno. I know she was adopted as a child, then given to another family. Her name, before marriage was supposed to be Rosalia Nosca. I have recently talked to my cousin who told me she worked for a wealthy family and she was a cook for the family. I can't understand why she used the name two times to come to the US. Her marriage name was Rosalia Pettineo. I hope maybe someone could help me solve this puzzle. Best Regards, Rosalie

HI Gwen:

I just saw you message. My husband grandfather Michele Pezzullo from S. Angelo, D'Alfe, prov. of Caserta, Italy. His father was Vincenzo and Mother was Antonia (Giugno) Pezzullo. Michele married Rosa Rega in 1897 in Providence, RI, Federal Hill Church, that is where I just found the name of Michele mother. I think Michele, was born about 1873 over there. Now Antonia Giugno, may have been born, some other place in Italy. She would be born about,1853-1858.Just a guess.Let me know if this, may be anything.

Martha

Marcellina Giugno

My Grandmother used this name, Marcellina Giugno, twice coming over from Mistretta, Sicily. Her married name was Rosalia Pettineo. On the ship manifest, she had put that she was coming over to be with her husband Giuseppe Pettineo with her three children. Now her maiden name was Nasca. My grandmother had been adopted and raised in an orphanage for some time. I was told that she went to work as a cook for some family in Italy. I heard that she also had a grocery store around 1905-1910. This is such a puzzle. She made two trips to USA, in 1906 and 1910, which was permanent. She never learned to speak English, so I never got to find out much about her. Why would she use a different name to come on the ship? If anyone is familiar with this name, I would appreciate any information. They lived in the town of Mistretta, Sicily.

Her age was 37 on the ship manifest in 1910, which means she was probably born in 1873. My grandfather, Mr. Pettineo's Mother died when he was a small child and his father remarried and he had two half sisters.

Thank you for any information.

Rosalie
