Givens Books - kin to Peter Givens & Martha Quillen ?

I have looked through the indexes of the 4 books about the Daniel & Martha Camden Givens and not found ref to Peter Givens or Martha Jane Quillen his wife. My family line most likly immigrated @ 1730's from the North of Ireland first settling in PA & MD and @ the 1750's settled in Southern Virginia, now known as Sinking Creek in Craig CO, was Augusta CO back in those days.

The books about Daniel are noted below:

duanegivens@me.com
Genealogy by Givens Inc
Specializing in the North of Ireland

Givens - Hall Family History
from Pre-Revolutionary Times to 1970
702 pages $30.
More Daniel Givens Descendants
187 pages $20.
The Texas-Oklahoma Clan of
Daniel Givens Descendants
300 pages $20
The Givens Tree Spreads
250 pages $20
plus postage @ $5.

Also looked through the index of the book The Samuel Givens Family and Kin by Jane Tyler Craig Reichlein and did not find your folks there either. This Samuel was m to Sarah Cathey, Samuel d 1740 and Sarah m a Allen, this family is also from the North of Ireland.

All the best in your search.

Duane Darrell "Rusty" Givens

duanegivens@me.com
givens1700@aol.com

Actually, only two daughters have been located, so far.

Lynn and I (Pat)know that we are Bill's daughters, and we suspect that there is another daughter because when I called Bill's niece (in 2004) and told her my story ("I am Bill Givens' daughter"), she said that another woman had called two years earlier with the same story - and it wasn't Lynn. Lynn didn't call Bill's niece until two years AFTER I called her (2006). That is the only evidence that we have, and that is why we are still actively looking for another sister. (contact Pat at weeksandweeks@gmail.com)

We have one photo of Bill Givens, taken from the church directory when he was in his 50's. I also have his Crestview High School year book, but it only has class photos with no captions. I will be happy to send you the church directory photo.

Thank you for all of your help with our Givens line throughout the years.

Hi Rusty, Thanks for the post. When I spoke with Dorthy Hall Givens and purchased her books, she was fairly sure that "my" Daniel did not fit in to any of the Daniels in her line. She was such a joy to talk to about genealogy.
We also lost another Givens genealogist a few years back, Velma Browning. She helped me so much with "my" Daniel and his family. She was another very dedicated genealogist--always had sources for her info. That's what I like!
Take care. Liz

Nathan - I always find it interesting when anyone is looking for Kentucky Givens families as my line came through there too.
I have a lead for you that goes into a Givan family. I have seen, but not verified, a line back from your William and Sarah:
William Dobson Givan and Sarah Donan to
Sanford Givan and Sarah Hall to
Joshua Givan and Margaret Mouser to
Richard Givan and Amy Lewis
I believed at one time my Givens family descended from this last couple but I find no proof that can support it This descent was formulated by a T S Givens long ago and personally don't put much stock in it but I might be wrong. I have a couple of contact name for you but would prefer giving them to you by email. My email is regivens@sbcglobal.net
I also think you should contact Rusty Givens at givens1700@aol.com - he is the Givens Family Project leader at FamilyTree DNA where we are trying to collect DNA samples from all the different Givens tribes to assist people in sorting out the various Givens families. Through this project I am certain my Givens line is Irish not French as T S Givens tried to show.
Hope to hear from you.
Robert Givens
Hamilton Givens is my 3 cousin 2 times removed. Our common ancestors are John Givens and Mary Margaret Sittlington. We would love to have one of you Givens give a DNA sample and join the Givens Group at FamilyTreeDNA. I have given mine and I desperately want one more person who descends from this line to give theirs so we can verify the DNA in this branch of the Givens family. All Givens descendants with the surname Givens are encouraged to join us at FamilyTreeDNA.
I wouldn't mind comparing our genealogy either. I am a genealogy addict.

Hi Rusty, Thanks for the offer, but I purchased mine from her before she passed away. She was a very nice lady and told me she didn't think "my" Daniel was from her line. I purchased the books anyway just in case I ever found a lead.

Rich: I am Joan Givens and Carole's third cousin. We both have information about Henry's parents and siblings. My great-grandfather, James Hineman Givens, was an older brother of Henry's. Carole's great-grandmother, Nancy Jane Givens Lamp, was a younger sister of the "boys." If you would like information about their parents and siblings, we would be glad to share it with you. I am also looking for information about Lona who may be connected to me through the Morgans. You may get in touch with me at rgivens@ma.rr.com. We are also looking for family pictures of Henry, Roda, Sarah, and the children of both families. I'm sure Carole will be responding to you, if she hasn't already. Thanks for your posting. It's always nice to find another cousin. Joan Givens in Fairmont, WV

Givens - numerous spellings now in a DNA Study - 17 family lines

Hi Liz, Nice hearing from you.

I do want to tell you that I head up a Given, Givens, Giveen, Givin, Givan, etc etc, as there are numerous spellings in our family lines. We now have 17 folks that are part of our group. We are part of www.familytree.com group. They are one of the most prominent DNA groups out there. They are working with IBM and National Geographic doing world wide research projects.

The test we use is know as the Y37 Test that is for males in the family line. There is a gene that carries down in all males and this is why we use this test. The cost of the test varies as they have marketing sales a couple of times each year. It can get as low as $119 and regular rate is @ $220 something.

Have any of your line done this?

If you would like a copy of the results of our group or anyone else, down me a line at duanegivens@me.com and I will send you the Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet that I have made up of our group to date.

All the best,

Duane D. "Rusty" Givens w the Daniel & Martha Camden Givens family line that settled in Southern VA @ the 1740's, from the North of Ireland.

Good Luck to You. My husband has many relatives from Great Britain with last name Lees or Neeson. Maybe that was the name you picked up on.

Hi Jerri,

I would love a list of names. I know my Givens line came from Ireland sometime in the 1600. My oldest uncle has told me my line came through the Shannondougha mountains and some of them ended up in PA. I am told there were 5 brothers who lived in Roanoke VA. My gg-grandfather is John Woods Givens Sr. Listed on his death certificate are his parents names his father was George Givens born in TN ( I am guessing about 1793) his mothers name was listed as Jennie Givens born in PA. I have found in the PA censes in the correct area a George Givens born in TN wife Jane born in PA with 2 daughters Margaret and Mary 5 sons George and William are the only names I have for the sons. I am hoping to make a definiate conection to my gg-grandfather. John Woods Givens Sr. married a Mary (Margaret) Cunningham. They had 9 children my great grandfather George Alexander Givens Sr. being the oldest his siblings are as fallows William A, Erastus A, Lestur, Melissa J, John Woods Jr., Hettie, Alma (who died as an infant) and Mary (Mollie). George A. married Mary A. George, William A. married Lucinda B Smith, and Mary married a James A Cox. I have also found Givens burried in Presbitarian Cemetery in the area my great-grandfather was born. They are a George d. 1812, Margaret no dates, Jane no dates, William no dates, Mary A Givens Smith (she would be the daughter of George TN and Jane PA and husband Ephraim A Smith. If you have any information that would help connect them to each other I would be ever greatful. I have also found Givens in the same cemetery that John Woods Givens his wife and some of his children are burried. I do not know if they are connected to my line but they may help someone out. This cemetery is in PA the names are Edward d. 1863 age 102, Samuel d. 1899 (owner of lot) Joseph d.1935, Elizabeth Ray Givens Samuel's wife d. 1864, infant 10 days old d. 1874, William 5 years old d. 1875.

Take a look at the Givens - Coleman family tree and let me know if any of the info I have could be connected with your line of the Givens. I have broken through a few walls but the further and further I get back in time the harder and harder it becomes. I would be glad to share an info or help you with any info you need from Allegheny Co. PA

Julia
