William, Son of Hezakiah5,was born 20 May 1785 in Va died unmarried 17 Feb 1857 in Fauquier Co., VA. One of his heirs was Mildred Sherman who was deceased at that time. Who was Mildred Sherman? Her children were: Peter Glascock, Mary J. who married William Bird, Albert Glascock, and Ellen L. who married Charles W. Davis.
I believe William had a sister, Rebecca who married a John Sherman but I can not find a connection between Mildred Sherman and William Glascock. HELP?

Hi my name is Susan Raffaini, doing research on the Raffaini, Parker, Robinson. My mother in law says that her side is related to the grimes the civil war mail carrier, but she does not have any more info personally. I would love to read that letter if I may.

Thank You,
Susan Raffaini

Looking for more information about Downing GLASCOCK and Susanna STROTHER in subject line. I am particularly interested in their descendants.

Susanna's mother was Susanna BARTLETT STROTHER b c1752
Susannah's mother was Ann _____ BARTLETT b c1733 of Richmond Co, VA

I'm trying to trace the all-female descendants of Susanna STROTHER GLASCOCK for a possible female-DNA project.

We've never been able to link them up although we've tried. It does not mean that they aren't. We just haven't been able to get proof of any sort. Wish someone could point out a definite. The Avoyelles Parish census records have 3 different states that he was "originally" from. The 1850 census states he was from Kentucky. The 1860 census says Ohio and the 1870 census says Missouri. It could be the route his family took in their migration. It could have been when state lines changed. It could have been that his wife was confused when she gave the answers. His son's (Giles') census records for 1880 & 1890 both state that Downing was born in Kentucky. Census records for John Lucky state that John was born in Kentucky also. (Boundary lines changed between Va.& Ky.so they could have been born in Ky while records for their parents are Va.even though they never moved. Confusing, isn't it?) They were apparently just a few years apart in age. Downing born abt. Dec. 1809 & John abt. 1811. They owned property next door to each other & I assumed they lived next door although I was reminded that they might have just bought farming land next to each other. They both married girls from Avoyelles Parish. Their wives & children lived in the same area. They were both steamboat captains although many men were, since it was the "trucking industry" of that era. A notice of Downing's newspaper obit requests information to be posted at Cape Girardeau, Mo... John's 1st child was born in Missouri although it appears that they were there only temporarily (maybe for the birth to stay with family?) as his wife was from Avoyelles Parish,La.and other children were born in Avo.Par. Information tends to keep pointing towards Charnal Glas(s)cock and his wife Mary Lucky (maybe Luckey)and even Charnal's brothers who pretty much seem to have moved to Missouri also. I've tried to gather all info on almost all Glasscocks of Missouri. They owned steamboats & steamboat landings & merchantile type stores there. I could go on & on but it's all just a big puzzle piece that doesn't quite fit properly anywhere.... so far.

I believe Mr.Neck was the gentleman who 1st put this info out. When asked where he got it, he could not recall. He worked very hard and was most likely the 1st to gather this Glasscock Family info so very many yrs ago and I feel a debt of gratitude to him. If I recall correctly, his elderly aunt was still living when he started putting it together. I have found a wealth of paper trail on Downing Glasscock. I have found a pretty good trail for John Lucky Glasscock also considering he died fairly young. So far, not a single document or record mentions who their parents were... not a one.---Recent findings: John L.was Master of "John Armstrong" packet (steamboat)in Apr,1846 ad. Which means he died between Apr 1846 - Mar 1847. Interesting note: Recruits were being gathered for the Mexican War at this exact time in La. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find his name as a soldier since so many were not listed unless they were of a higher rank. (In fact, the govt did not keep a detailed record of all troops & we may never find a truly complete list.) A suggestion was that he MIGHT have even Captained a steamboat to transport troops. So far,I've not found his name in transport records found in archive newspapers but I have not finished looking thru them. Papers report so many of the troops were dieing of typhoid fever there. I'm not finished putting these records together, but it's an interesting theory since there is absolutely no report of death found in records in La.(so far).

The man who started the info that Giles F.Glasscock and Mary Maria Downing were John L.(Lucky)Glasscock & Downing Glasscock's parents may have been mistaken. I have seen the original record in the old writing. Could not copy it; however, the names were actually Giles F. Eubanks & Mary Maria Downing and they were NOT John or Downing's parents.(The Eubanks name looks very much like Glascock in the old writing.).The man who reported this was a cousin of my mother-in-law.He has since passed away.I have been searching this line for about 35 yrs.In fact,we have no proof that John & Downing were brothers either.I have a lot of info on Downing & was recently able to narrow down the death date for John.In Apr.1846 ad in Villager Newspaper, he was Master of the packet "John Armstrong" which was leaving to make a run.On legal docs of March 1847,his wife was listed as a widow. John's middle name was Lucky. His 1st daughter was born in Mo.although he had property next to Downing in La. Check out Charnal Glasscock & wife Mary Lucky in Mo. Grandsons in both families went to Tex.for Glasscock Circus.I also have a list of some of the steamboats/packets John & Downing ran. My husband descends from Downing but I am interested in both men, just in case they were brothers or close relatives. It is impossible to share all info in this message.

Peter Ephram Glasscock's father was William Peter Glasscock (Jan 1827- bef. 1900) and Rachel Sophia Beckett (6/19/42 - bef 1900). Her parents were Daniel Boone Beckett and Lucy R Burris. William Peter went by "Peter" and appeared in the census records as "Peter" and "William P." I haven't been able to determine who William Peter's parents were. The census records say he was born in Kentucky. He has to be from the Glasscocks who migrated from Virginia to Kentucky but so far I haven't been able to track down his parents. I've traced the children from all of the Glasscocks but one named Daniel; he continues to elude me. Peter E was a brother to my great grandfather.

I have found that Jane's name was also listed as Jean. The information I have is that she died in 1667 in Lancaster County, Virginia. The information has not been authenicated. I got most of my information from the book that Lawrence Glasco wrote about the Glascocks. I also found in researching that Thomas and Jane may have had a daughter by the name of Grace but once again this has not been authenicated. I had not found any information that Thomas had a second wife until I read your information on this posting.

I think I may have misspoke- Grace appears to be the 2nd wife with all the children belonging to Jane and Thomas. The only thing that I wonder however is that Grace is from Lancaster County, Virginia and so are all the children. Do you know when and where Jane died?

You mentioned that Thomas's first marriage was to Grace (?) and I was unaware he was married before marrying Jane Juet. Are the children from the marriage to Jane Juet as that is how I have them listed. I am a descendent of the Glascock family.

Thanks for the information but I have copies of the death certificates of Peter Ephram and William Henry Glascock. Their parents were listed as "Peter Glascock" and "Sophia Beckett". Sophia is "Rachel Sophia Beckett" and Peter is William Peter. Peter E's date of birth is Feb 1, 1877 and William Henry's is May 11, 1877 on their death certificates. These dates don't match the 1880 census dates for the children of John Peter. Peter's death certificate is attested by Basil King Peddicord. Basil and Josephine are buried next to William and Bessie. My grandfather's brother is Cecil King Glascock and Cecil knows Alvin (Doc) Monroe and Rollin were his uncles and Docia was his aunt. My mother's brother was named Alvin Monroe. I'm fairly certain I'm looking for
William Peter Glasscock (some of the family members dropped an "s" but my grandfather kept the double "s").

I am interested in obtaining information and possibly a picture of the tombstone of George Glascock (also spelled Glasscock), born November 1767 in Fauquier County, Virginia and died on August 1832 in Flemingsburg, Kentucky. I also checked my list of Glascock's and did not find the names you had mentioned. I would appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks!

I have photos of the headstones of many of the Glas(s)cocks buried in Flemingsburg and Mt Carmel, KY. If anyone is interested in obtaining information or a copy of specific headstones, please contact me. I'm happy to share. I'm still looking for information on William "Peter" Glasscock and Rachel "Sophia" Becket Glasscock. Their children were Daniel P., Docia Layton, William Henry, Peter Ephram, Rollin, Alvin "Doc" and James H. Does anyone have the name "Ephram" appearing in their lines? It's repeated throughout this clan. My grandfather's name was William Ephram. Ephram may be a clue to break down my brick wall. I'm not sure if it's a Glasscock name or a Becket name.
I'm a descendent of William Peter Glasscock & Rachel Becket through William Henry Glasscock and Mary Bessie Peddicord. I have photos of gravesites in Mt. Carmel and Flemingsburg. I also have a copy of the marriage papers for William Peter & Rachel as well. I've been working with Judy to fill in the blanks on Peter Ephram Glasscock's side. I'm happy to share. I'm trying to sort out the ones who dropped an "s" from their names. My grandfather William Ephram Glasscock kept both "s" as did William Henry and Peter Ephram (at least on their headstones).
It does get confusing!

Peter Ephram Glasscock's parents were William Peter Glasscock (b. Jan 1827 d. bef 1910) and Rachel Sophia Beckett (b. June 19, 1842 d. bef. 1910). I have info on the descendants but not the ancestors of William Peter Glasscock. William Peter is my brick wall. I am related through Peter Ephram's brother, William Henry.

The family has switched the spelling of their name to Glascock in some cases. My grandfather William Ephram kept the double s but his brothers/sisters dropped an s. It makes it confusing but all of the Glasscock/Glascock in the area are related. I just can't connect William Peter to the others from Virginia yet.

I'll share what I have including photos of Peter E's and his children's gravesites in Flemingburg.

Osa Bell d. 5.1.1904 (fell off bed and broke her neck) and Lester d. 1.12.1919; Riley d. 1.13.1919; Hazel d.1.16.1919 and their father, Peter d. 1.21.1919 all from the flu epidemic. My husband's name is Richard Gayle Glascock, we live in Gibson City, IL and have been trying to find out more about the family as well. I know that William Peter and Rachel are his Great Grandparents. We heard from realtives in Indiania that were Doc's family, which would have been one of the four sons of William Peter and Rachel. Please e-mail me and maybe we can exchange more details. Thank you so much.
Gayle's dad started using the one 's' when he came to Illinois...and Gayle has a brother named Frances....

I am trying to figure out some confusing information on two Glascock girls in Lake Co., CA (next to Yolo Co.). They were supposedly born in either WA or OR in about 1858 & 1859. I, suspect, they tie into the Glascocks living in Yolo Co., because their future step-mother was living in the same Yolo precinct as several Glascock families in the 1860 census

We have probably corresponded before. I've found John in the 1840 census for Avoyelles Co, LA and his widow in the 1850 census for Avoyelles Co, LA. However, I can't find Giles F. Glasscock anywhere. Nor can I find his wife. Do you have any information you might share about Giles or Mary Maria?
Jack jmgandbjs@aol.com

Re: Sudie or Susie Glascock

Hello. We are, perhaps, distant cousins.
From what I have noticed, my GGG Grandfather Robert Luckey Glascock married twice. First marriage to Elizabeth Sullinger produced several children including my GG Grandmother Zepporah; second marriage to "Rosanna", several children including Sudie/Susie. Sudie may also have been referred to as Sudananey. Unsure which is her given name. Is there any possibility that Rosanna is Cherokee Indian?

My grandmother had always insisted that she had a relative that was Cherokee, but we never found out who that could have been. Unless Zepporah was adopted, there are not any known Cherokee in my maternal line. Am wondering if perhaps she was referring to a step sister.

Thank you.
Kathy

Thank you for the reply. I just sent a message directly to Deborah to see if she can shed any light on the Cherokee mystery.

Kathy

There were a lot of Glascock's that migrated west from the Virginia's to Knox County, Ky. I haven't as yet been able to connect them to William Peter, but that has to be some of them someplace...email me at gjg57@sbcglobal.net.
