Dear all,
I am having a hard time finding the parents of Susannah (or Anna) Glasson. She married a William James Dobb and the marriage record that I found on OPC or freereg indicated her father as labourer and first name George. The parish area was listed as: afterwashes (breage?)
copy of opc record

Breage
14-Jun 1846

William James DOBB
25
Bachelor
Miner
Ashtown
John Dobb
Miner

Susanna GLASSON
21
Spinster

Afterwashes
George Glasson
Laborer

Banns
s
x
Francis Pellew
George Hebbard

In the 1841 census there were two Thomas Glassons and both were married to wives named Ann. The couple from Redruth were Thomas Glasson and Ann Chipman. However, I believe that the couple from Gwinear were Thomas Glasson and Ann Vivian who were married in Gwinear on 25 August 1821. Therefore it follows that your William was baptised at Gwinear on the 18th May 1834, the son of Thomas Glasson and Ann Vivian - or it may have been that this Wiiliam died as a second William was baptised to this couple on the 14th June 1835. William had the following siblings baptised also at Gwinear; Joanna, John, Lavinia, Sally and Thomas.

Allen Glasson

Hello,

I believe we are related!

My Great Great Great Grandparents were Joseph Glasson and Amelia Hosford. After Amelia died, Joseph re-married to Susan Dudley (father James). I did not know that they had children, however a recent census search found a Christopher Glasson & family, living in Cobh very near my Glassons, whom I could not connect.

Joseph's father was John Glasson. He also had a son Joseph (my Great Great Grandfather) who married Mary Sullivan, then Mary Forde (my Great Great Grandmother). I also have Glasson connections in Australia.

My Glassons
http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Cork/Queenstown...

Christopher Glasson
http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Cork/Queenstown...

I've been checking rootsweb for 7 years now, and can't believe I've only just found your post.

Scott
Hi all,

I have a Susannah Glasson in our line. She was first wife of William James Dobb. Her son John Dobb was my great great grandfather on my grandmother's side. He married Eliza THomas Jacka (Dobb). William James Dobb married Eliza's mom when Susannah died. I believe Susanna(h)? was called Anna.

Another mystery, if anyone happens to know, is who was Eliza Thomas Jacka's dad. Her mother was Mary Ann Jacka daughter of James Jacka and Mary Ann Blanchard.

It'd be fun to see how Susannah fits in with all people's other trees.

Thanks! Tried to contact Bill Glasson the pro Golfer and he must have thought we wanted to capalize on his popularity and not his heritage,so no go there. Please send word if any of this, connects with you and your family history
Sincerly Terri Mae Glasson (Sloan )Tx. (972-325-1371)
P.S..
Hi Daphne,

Thanks for the response. I think we may be related, but not on the immediately obvious level... I think that the Coulls link is further up around the 1700's.

We have a William Henry Coulls/Cowls b 1830, but the family bible he started says he married Ann Thomas. Ann died 1917 according to our bible... My guess is our Coulls probably split around John Cowls/Anne Bennetts or Jonathan Cowles/Mary Cock (There's a Henry Cowles there who I have no siblings for).

Let me know if that helps at all?

Jason Coulls

Jane Glasson came to America in 1853 with her
brother John Glasson, his wife Mary Ann, John was born abt 1824, Jane Glasson was born 15 Nov 1839, also came to U.S.
was sister Catherine b 1843 and Joseph Glasson b. 18 Jun 1844. Their Parent are John Glasson and Honor Bishop.
John Glasson's parents are James Glasson and Mary Blight.
Honor Bishop parents are William Bishop and Grace Michell.

I believe all the children came to Michigan. Jane Glasson
married John Spear 26 Jul 1856 in Eagle River, Houghton, Michigan. They lived ther until after Oct 1862. and then are in Canada by 15 Nov 1863, Then by 1870 they are found in
Cheshire, New Haven, Connecticut. Would love to find another line of Jane's siblings. Jane Glasson is my 3rd great
grandmother and I have just been able to locate pictures of her. She also had a sister Elizabeth who died in Cheshire
also. Elizabeth married a James Hosking.

Please contact me should our line come up in your records I can use any and all help in my research.
Contact me at ailshie.kr@verizon.net

Thanks Kathy

James Glasson - Whitehaven

My gr gr grandfather was James Glasson, born 1801 in Ireland. We are the only Glassons in this area, and I've always wondered how James came to be up here when the majority of Glassons ended up in Cornwall. Has anybody else got Cumbrian Glassons in their family tree, and do they start from Ireland? I don't know which part of Ireland he came from, and that's the annoying part. I can't get any further. All the census reports say is that he was born in Ireland but don't give a town. Which is the main part of Ireland where they all came from?

Rosemary Groggins (nee Glasson)

Glasson Family of Gwennap, Cornwall, England

Researching information on James Glasson and family as listed in the 1871 Cornwall UK Census, Gwennap Parish, District 5, Sched 002:

Glasson, James, head, born 1843, Gwennap, Cornwall, Tin Miner
Glasson, Amelia (aka Emeline), wife, born 1846, Gwennap, Cornwall
Glasson, Emily, Dau, born 1866, Gwennap, Cornwall
Glasson, Grace, Dau, born 1868, Gwennap, Cornwall
Glasson, James, Son, born 1869, Gwennap, Cornwall
Glasson, Mary E. (Elizabeth), Dau, born 1871, Gwennap, Cornwall

Children added to family following 1871 Census:

Glasson, William (Willie) T., born 1872, Gwennap, Cornwall
Glasson, John C., born 1877(?), Gwennap, Cornwall
Glasson, Bessie (Mary Elizabeth?), born 1881, Silver Plume, CO

Amelia and children believed to have arrived New York via City of Brussels 29 May 1880 without husband/father James who may have come later. Amelia and children believed to have been in Silver Plume, CO by 1881.

Missing info includes:

1. Birth and death of husband/father James who apparently never made it to CO.

2. Death info on Mary E (1871) who apparently died prior to the family immigrating to US thus making a second Mary Elizabeth (1881) possible.

3. Wife/mother Amelia (Emeline) surname.

While these three items are the most desired at the moment, any information will be appreciated in exchange for US marriage, birth and death info in my files.

Thank you

Paul Schonstrom
