Re: Glendon & Keegan

William Roberts and Bridget Glendon are my great grandparents. They are buried in the graveyard at Penetanguishine, Ontario, along with Bridget's parents Thomas and Elizabeth, who was Keegan. I have pictures of the graves.

My understanding is that William Roberts left Cork in Ireland in 1843. I don't know what route he took to Penetang, or whether he met Bridget there or in Ireland. I don't know if his middle initial was C. either. Certainly the Glendons were from Freshford, in Kilkenny.

They had around a dozen children, one of whom was my grandfather James Austin Roberts. He married Josephine Donnelly, who had come up from Yankton South Dakota around the turn of the century and settled with her parents near to Barrhead Alberta. My father, William Herbert, was their son. He married Mary Ann Moss of Aghyaran Parish, in County Tyrone, Ireland in Belfast just after the war, in which he served in the Canadian Army.

I lived in Ireland for many years, but did not go down to Cork to check the records there or in Freshford. I will the next time I go over.

Glendon mystery?

Nothing like a good mystery to attract attention. My grandmother called herself Helen (known as Nell or Nellie), Glendon(maiden name) born we think nr Bandon in Co Cork in the 1890's. Her name appears on my Uncle's birth certificate as Helen Mulcahy in 1921 even though she was supposedly married to my Granfather James Douglas at the time: it appears as Glendon on the other 3 childrens certificates..there is no doubt she was the mother of all four. These were turbulent times in Ireland...so Glendon may have been made up to cover up a catholic surname like Mulcahy, Grandfather was a protestant who lived in the North, or perhaps a maiden name and she married a Mulcahy and then met my Grandfather. My Aunt, her daughter is keen to find out, she is almost certain that her parents never married despite having 4 children. a long shot i know but any ideas?

Thomas Glendon b. 1841 Canada

Anyone know of the Thomas Glendon family? he was born
1841 in Toronto , canada the son of Patrick Glendon & Mary Brennen. Thomas had one brother and one sister that I found record of. His parents were born in Ireland. This family move
to Michigan ... and are found in the 1870 Michigan census.
Thomas married Lucy Earl or Earle 13 December 1868 in Plainfield Twp, Iosco, Michigan... I am looking for family of
Lucy & Thomas who might have information about Lucy's ancestors... kind of a back door approach but am willing to share what I have on this family ... I have photos of Thomas and Lucy and a daughter named Minnie .
They can be found on my homepage at...
http://groups.msn.com/TheHollingFamily/_whatsnew.msnw

Glendon Family

I am researching the ancestors of Richard Alfred Glendon, born 1835, somewhere, I believe, on the East coast of Ireland. Possibly, Co. Kilkenny, Co. Wexford, area. Richard Alfred Glendon moved to St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, married Alice McNulty, and lived in New Brunswick until about 1869. Richard, Alice, and two children born in New Brunswick, then moved to Harwich, Massachusetts, Cape Cod, in 1870. Richard A. Glendon was a sailor. He and Alice had three more children, all born in Harwich.

I would like any information from Glendon researchers on the Glendon families they have been researching, in the US and Ireland.
