Surnames: Glennie, Scotland to Nova Scotia 1788 and beyond
John Glennie married twice, had seventeen children, emigrated from Fife, Scotland to Nova Scotia 1788 and settled in the River Hebert, Minudie area of Cumberland County. My great great grandmother was one of eleven children born to his second wife Mary A. Dickson of Westmoreland, New Brunswick.
I am now concentrating on Catherine's half-siblings, children of John and first wife Ann Fernie who died ca 1797 buried Barronsfield, Cumberland Co., Nova Scotia.
Margaret b 1776, James b 1778, Isaac b 1781(Captain in the Fencibles?), John b 1785, William b 1787, all born in Fife plus their sister Jean b 1783, who died 1784 and is buried Scotland.
Two more children were born to the couple after arrival in N.S.-Annie b 1789 and Douglas Charles/Charles Douglas b 1791.
While some of these remained in Nova Scotia, married and unmarried, a number moved to Ontario, to New Brunswick (Westmoreland and Midgic area at least) some western Canada and with second and third generation into the U.S.
I have initial record for John's christening in Scotland and cemetery confirmation of his parents' burial. His father was given as John Glenny (there were three spelling variations in records from 1690 to 1881) GROS record 1715.
Because the offspring in turn had large families, many of the Glennie names in Elgin County for example are connected even with spelling variations.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who believes they trace through this line to John and Margaret Smith Glennie of Fife. John and Margaret Glennie had a son James whose descendants reside outside Canada. A daughter Jean Leslie Glennie christened Fife, died there 1849, apparently unmarried. Two sons William and Andrew remained in Scotland, their death dates I haven't located in parish records yet.
Looking for intermarriages with surnames Rice, Card, Foster, Brine, Richardson, Carrol and others.
