If your Emil and Wilhelm lived in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, then we have a match. My Emil (b~1887, Posen, East Prussia) and dad Wilhelm Gleitz (b. Jun-1863; d. 1908, Waukesha, Waukesha, WI; also shown as Glietz and Glitz) arrived in the US 5-Aug-1891. Mother was Marie (Mary; b.27-Mar-1864 possibly in Pobeitz, East Prussia; d. 1936, West Allis, Milwaukee, WI. There is lots more available on this family from the time they arrived in the US but little from their time in Germany.

While researching for my book Gleitz families in America in 1983 I came upon Emil Glietz and his family and corresponded with a relative whom I've now forgotten her name, unless it was Trudi Brand. The name was spelled Glietz by the courthouse clerk, so they kept it that way.

Small world though - we always thought my great-grandfather was the only Glitz to emigrate. I have trace him back to Hanover Germany a couple of generations before that.

Debbie Craig

I have a letter from a great uncle Herbert Glitz that he wrote to a Walter Glitz - they were apparently not related - whom he met at a Masonic meeting of some kind.
I have put a lot of info on the internet on my surname. I wrote a book in 1983 on Gleitz Families to America. I remember the names you mentioned in my research. I have several Gleitz on findagrave.com where I have added over 15,000 memorials, mostly under genealogist@consultant.com. The oldest Glitz was in 1100 A.D. They were of royalty in the Black Forest and accumulated land and wealth. My line ended up in Alsace-Lorraine when in Germany. If you google the surname and my name you should find a lot of my stuff. Unfortunately two of my big websites were deleted by mistake and I don't put much faith in storing everything on the internet anymore.

I've recently come across a letter from 1963 written by my great uncle Herbert Glitz to another Mr. Glitz he met associated with the Masons. In it he mentions a brother of his father's who "went to Nittingham, England where he was either a tobacconist or had something to do with lace." No name was mentioned and Herb has passed away so I cannot get any more information from him. Herb was born in 1903, and his father, Arthur Theodore Glitz was born in 1860 or 61 in Hanover. His father was Theodore Christian Glitz, who was the Commissioner of Police and an entomologist. Doest this help?
