I have the following people which descend down to my grandmother, Lula Simpson Glover. They start with Jones Glover, who was reported to be born in N.C or Virgina. His son was Lancaster, his son was Holmes West Glover who married twice. Once to Elizabeth Dresser and then to my Grandmothers mother who was Catherine Webster. My grandmother was Lula Simpson Glover. She married Charles Wesley Adams in Elm Springs Methodist Church, Sept 10,1893. They both lived in or around Sprindale area, and then went to Chelsea, Ok. From there onto Los Angeles, Ca where they both died in the late 1940's. Would like to connect with anyone who might be searching this family line or the Adams line.
Please email cjohnson@citlink.net or reply on this board.
Thanks,
Carole

Glovers in Pennsylvania - Mifflin County, Lewistown area

Hi. I am interested in the Glovers that moved to the Lewistown, Pennsylvania area. I'm just getting started with my research. Lewistown is not far from here and my maternal grandmother also lives there, so at some point I'm going to go to the courthouse and historical society to do some research. The family is originally from Georgia, though, and the time and money to get there is prohibitive. This is what I know of my paternal grandfather:

My grandfather was Edward Michael Glover, who was orginally from a small town outside Augusta. There is a Gloversville there, but that is not the town. Edward was probably born sometime between 1900-1915. He lived with various relatives throughout his childhood, one (probably) being a Colonel Mack/Mac, possibly an uncle on his mother's side, reportedly a "Southern Gentleman" type. We're not sure how he ended up in Lewistown, PA but there are other Glovers there. It's possible that Edward's sister or other close relative moved there and others follwed. Edward married Elizabeth, called Libby and had twin daughters who died as infants. He enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Hawaii. He was discharged before Pearl Harbor, and after that incident enlisted in the Navy with the Seabees. Libby passed away possibly from Syphyllis though we're not sure. Edward passed away around 15 years ago from a brain tumor.

Edward's childhood is very murky. He did not speak to my dad or uncle about it in detail, only generalized stories (which are very intriguing). My dad feels that Edward's childhood was very difficult and that's why he didn't speak of it. I think that when I discover who his parents and siblings were it will be a little easier to find info.

My grandfathers name was William Thomas Glover, We know little about HIS father, We know he was originally from Wallasey Lancashire England UK, that he married out of his religion, which was a real "no,no" at that time, Family legend says that one of his relations later became Lord Mayor of Wallasey, We THINK his name was Thomas William or William Thomas, He died in the 1940's we believe, My father William Joseph was born in 1934 and remembers him as a small child and descirbed him as having a lot of white hair and a red nose!He married Louisa Marie we dont have a maiden name for her, but it is a fact that the glovers all had white hair by they hit their 40's, If anyone has any hints please pass them on, thank you

Anna M. Glover b. 1907 Pa. - daughter of David and Emma Updegraff

*** I have no connection ***

Anna M. Glover - Fairbanks Daily News-Miner - AK

Anna M. Glover

Anna M. Glover, 99, left this world May 10, 2007. She had been healthy, active and highly-spirited until breaking a bone in her hip in April.
Anna was born in Muncie, Pa., on Oct. 8, 1907, to David and Emma Updegraff. She was the youngest of nine children. Her father was a sea captain. He, his ship and crew were lost at sea when she was 2 years old. As a result, she grew up in two distinct worlds — in the country with her mother, who never remarried, and in the city with her older married sisters.
At age 17, she decided to go West to a brother in San Francisco. She left against her mother’s wishes, going with a family she had met. It took 23 days, most of which they walked or pushed the car. They camped and cooked their meals in open country. Services were almost nonexistent and towns not that plentiful. The year was 1924.
Once in California, she stayed with them for awhile, all working and pooling their money together. Eventually she left and joined her brother in San Francisco. She stayed with him and enrolled in business school. Sometime later, he left on vacation to Washington. While fishing in Lake Chelan, a storm came up and he drowned. His body was never found. Alone again, she accepted an invitation to join the family of a girl she met in school.
Later, at age 24, Anna married an older man with children. They had three children of their own. He died in 1961. She never remarried and raised their two boys alone.
Over the years, Anna visited her daughter and son-in-law in Fairbanks several times. In 1983, she decided to come and live the rest of her life near them in Fairbanks.
In 100 years, Anna experienced many changes in this world, both large and small. When she was born, there were only 45 stars on the American flag. Later that year, Oklahoma joined the union. At age 5, New Mexico and Arizona were added for 48 stars. Then later, Alaska and Hawaii rounded out Old Glory with 50 stars.
Anna was a very intelligent, independent, feisty and attractive woman with a definite mind of her own. As stated in her last will and testament, “I have lived a simple life and wish to depart this life in the same way.”
Her wishes were honored and no services were held. Per her instruction, her remains were cremated.
She will be missed by those who knew her and those who loved her. She had lived to the fullest measure and beyond, and her spirit is now free and unfettered by the constraints and infirmities of old age.
She is survived by son William Glover of Washington; daughter, Lorraine Province of Fairbanks, eight grandchildren, Kathy Elkins, Cherrie (Terry) Forness, Tracy Steele, Mistie (Dave) Kingsley, Eddie, Anna, David and Denise Glover; 10 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Glovers from Scotland to Northern Virginia

DNA research seems to indicate that my Glovers originated in the south of Scotland, then were probably part of the plantation of Ulster in the 17th c., coming briefly to Bucks County PA about 1700. From there they migrated south to the present-day Winchester VA area about 1738, to Fairfax (Alexandria County of DC) in 1790, and to Culpeper/Fauquier Counties until 1815 when they migrated to north of New Market, Shenandoah County VA. In the 1820's, some went to Hardy County (now WV) and soon to Licking County OH. My gg-grandfather, however, returned to Rockingham County VA about 1831. The name is sometimes Glovier. Hope more Glover males will take the www.familytreedna.com Glover DNA test. Any thoughts? Denis

Glover family cookbooks

Several Glover family members from Tennessee, Kentucky and Indiana have gotten together and published a Glover family cookbook! Along with delicious new recipes we've included some old Glover family favorites. For instance when my grandmother, who was an immigrant, moved to Tennessee after marrying my Peepaw Glover, she had to learn what how to cook good old fashioned southern style. The cookbooks cost 15.00 plus shipping and handling. We're just trying to help our cousin break even on the money she spent for the publishing. Email Betty at:
bgkingrey@scrtc.com
We made them for ourselves but just realized what a great gift they'd make for other Glover's out there wanting to connect to their Glover family. We have all descended from the Glover's from North Carolina. (this is the same cousin who wrote the book The Glover Family Ancestors and Descendents of W.P. Glover) I must say we are very good cooks! Yummy recipes.
Eliza Glover

I'm searching for information on Rose Robbins whom I think married F. L. Keith. I have a letter from her to my grandfather, J. R. Robbins, dated October 25, 1952. The letter is signed from Rose and the return address is F. L. Keith, Houston, Texas. She states her sister, Clara, died 18 years ago that day. Clara had a son who had two boys in 1952. I believe Clara and Rose's mother's name was Eliza Glover Robbins. Rose also states in the letter that "Birt Glover is dead."

I was given a copies of some old tin-type photos that were in an album that belonged to my grandmother Lilly. The only photo that is labeled is of a young woman and it has a handwritten "Emma Glover" (middle initial possibly P.)on the back. It was taken at a studio in Staunton, VA

My cousin was given the album by my grandmother Lilly back in the 60's and was told that they were old family photos. I have uncovered no family connections that bear this name. My grandmothers ancestors include Leake, Young, Harlow, Mahanes, Jones, & Snead on her mothers side and Lilly, Ray, Earman, Gladwell, Ogan & Messerly on her fathers. Most resided in Virginia.

I would love to be able to identify this lady and figure out what connection she may be. It would be a starting point to identifying the individuals in the other photos.
