Classification: Query
Surnames: Glover Glovier Simmers
Here is how the many Glovers, Gloviers, and Simmerses are interrelated to begin with. This family used/uses both spellings, Glover and Glovier, up to today. See www.glover-glovier.com:
Lydia Simmers to James W. Gaither No date. (Her second husband, below, was Benjamin Glovier, Jr., my great-great-uncle.)
Mary Ann Simmers to Derek Glovier 8/2/1850 Bond Book 846 (Derrick was my great-grandfather’s brother; so he’s also my great-great-uncle.) Her parents Abraham Simmers & Elizabeth Plumley, his Benjamin Glovier & Dorcas Alexander (My great-greatgrandparents, whom I am researching.)
Abraham Simmers & Elmira Glovier 8/15/1865 Bond book 1 His parents Christley Simmers & Elizabeth. Hers Benjamin Glovier (Sr.) & Dorcas Alexander. (Elmira was my great-great-aunt.)
William H. Simmers & Josie Glover 12/8/1892 His p. Noah H. Simmers & Emme Summers Her p. Derrick Glover & Mary Ann Simmers. (Josephine was my father’s first cousin, once removed.)
Rebecca Simmers & Americus Glovier 7/28/1874 daughter of Isaac (Ike). (Americus is the son of Legrand Glovier, who was another brother of Derrick.)
Benjamin Glovier, Jr., & Ann Elizabeth Niecwander (Niswander) 10/14/1848 (His second wife was Lydia Simmers (Gaither); see top above.)
Joseph D. Simmers & Ada Virginia Holsinger 10/25/1903 His p. John C. Simmers & Frances Glovier & Daniel Holsinger & Elizabeth Fogle. (I don't know who she is.)
My great-grandfather John was the son of Benjamin Glover (Sr.) and Dorcas Alexander, that is, brother to Madison, Legrand (Sr.), Derrick (Derek), Benjamin (Jr.), Thomas Jackson (Jack), Harriet (Brunk), Sarah Catherine, Amanda, Margaret, Richard, and Elmira (Simmers) (not in order).
I had 48 great-aunts and –uncles, all born in the Shenandoah Valley. I knew them all, but I find it strange that I never knew how many had Simmers connections. I can’t figure out exactly how some Glovers and Simmerses may be related. It gets too complicated, but, if the sexes had been reversed, probably many would be Glovers, instead of Simmerses!
