Hi Cheryl, I have his naturalization papers, and they only list Ireland. He naturalized in the New York Common Pleas Court. The only question they ask is if he had been in the country at least 5 years. His death certificate lists his father as Patrick. I wish I had more to go on.

Philip was born about 1830. That would make his father born about 1815 depending on how many children they had. I believe that Philip had a sister Jane and either siblings or cousins, Elizabeth, Theresa and John.

Phillip married Julia Nugent, shortly after they immigrated. Without knowing at least her father's name, there's no way to connect her to anyone.
I was searching for information about an old church in Loughatorick today and was directed to your email as Loughatorick was mentioned in it. I was amazed to read it as my great-great grandmother was Margaret Glynn married to Martin Kennedy. I asked my uncle about them and he said Martin Kennedy married into Glynn's as Margaret was he believes an only child. I have some info about their family that I can pass on but I see your email was from 2007 so maybe it's too late.
Anyway, if you get this feel free to email me and we can possibly fill in some gaps.

Patrick Glynn-Manchester,NH

My gggrandfather Patrick Glynn, b. abt 1850 presumably in Ireland, married Annie Lynch abt 1865 in Manchester NH (I think). They had 3 sons, Martin, b 12 Oct 1872, John b. 29 July 1874 and Thimothy b. 5 June 1876 all in Manchester NH. St. Joseph's church in Manchester has baptism records for Martin and John. The parents are listed as Patrick Glynn and Annie Lynch---but since 1892 the family name has always been recorded as McGlynn, not Glynn.
Other than the baptisms of 2 of his sons and the 1880 Census, I cannot find any written record of my Patrick (Glynn) McGlynn. In 1880 he is in Fall River, MA as Patrick LYNN along with his wife Anna and his 3 sons Martin, John, and Thimothy. Help!
On a trip to Ireland years ago, my husband's cousin took the attached picture in case it turned out that our Glynns were related. On the back she wrote - Cemetery at Abbey in Loughrea.

So far I have no info on our Glynns due to lack of records. FYI, my husband's g-grandparents were Thomas King (b. 1843)and Bridget Glynn. They married before 1869. They lived in Feigh which is in the RC Parish and Civil Parish of Abbeyknockmoy in County Galway.

There were five children of whom we're aware - my husband's grandfather, Thomas (b. 1873), and his siblings,
Patrick (b. 1869),
Martin (b. 1870),
Catherine (b. 1875) and
Mary (b. 1881).

Thomas and Patrick came to the US.

Is this the same photo you have? Just curious!

Helen

Thanks for the info. My great grandfather, Patrick, is a son of a Patrick Glynn. That Patrick married a woman named Hester Regan. My grandfather, William, said that Patrick had a brother who remained in Ireland and he also came here with another brother. Haven't found the brother he came with to America but have some leads. I will see if I can find anything about my great grandfather, Patrick, using your research. It is very possible that there is a connection between your Glynns and mine, especially since my grandfather was named William. I will keep in touch if I find anything else.

Cindy;

Not sure if I contacted you before (nothing listed). My great grandmother was Alice Glynn born 1860 in Drumbaragh, Newbliss, Co. Monaghan. She married John Smyth and then married John Rudden from Callowhill, Scotshouse, Co. Monaghan.
Its very possible that your Bridget is an aunt of my Alice Glynn. Alice also had a sister Bridget, and a daughter Bridget Rudden.
There must be some connection here. Do you know if your Rudden and Glynn family are from Monaghan.
John Rudden (above) was from Callowhill, Co. Monaghan, but hos father was originally from Redhills, Co. Cavan.

Regards.
John Kelly
Hello, I was going through some of my old mail and came across this, your message...I am sorry I do not have any information on Glynn-Redman, but I am related to Atkinson(where your message was) and I do recall my Uncle Cecil Atkinson telling me once that we were related to the "Youngbloods."
ATKINSON, THOMPSON, CRANE, YOUNGBLOODS.
These folks were evidentually some of the "Old Settlers," the folks who chose to migrate instead of a forced imagration to Arkansas-Trail of Tears.(or was the end destination Oklahoma?)Anyway, I have located most of the Thompson line, but I am still looking for the rest...Any help would be wonderful!
Thank you for your time,
Ruth Jenkins
ruthfether@yahoo.com

There's not much information on it: Timothy J. Glynn, died Lowell, Oct 3, 1888. Color White, Marital Status: M. Age 35 years, Resident of Lowell at time of death, Cause of death railroad accident. Born Ireland, both parents born Ireland. You are more than welcome to have the certificate.

I'd suggest you check some newspapers to see if you can find an account of the railroad accident because there might be more information there - keeping in mind that he didn't necessarily die on the date of the accident - he may have lingered for a few days and that the accident was not necessarily in Lowell just because he died in Lowell.

Perhaps a street directory for Lowell would tell you who was in the family he lived with?

In an odd coincidence my ggrandmother, Catherine Conway Glynn died in Boston in 1888. I'm looking for her husband, Timothy Glynn. I also grew up in a house that had been the stationmaster's home on the Lowell & Salem railroad.
Re: Update on Joseph M./John P. Glynn of Boston

This is a bit of an old thread - but here goes:

I think that I may be a cousin of the Alice Glynn mentioned in this post. My grandmother was Ellen Elizabeth Power Sliney (1906-1990). She had a cousin Alice Glynn who, as I understand it, lived at least for a time, in Roxbury. I also recollect being told that Alice worked for the MBTA (I believe). We always referred to her as "Aunt Alice," although she was actually a cousin, because of the significant age difference. In fact, I believe my mother (Mary Ellen Sliney Murphy, 1934-1994)grew up calling her Aunt Alice. Alice came up in conversation tonight as I was having dinner with my sister and some Power family cousins.

Re: British census (1861-1881) information on Ann Glynn

Hello Dennis,

I was not able to definitively find the GLYNN family or any of its three individual members on the 1861-1881.

The only “Ann Glynn” (Soundex search) b 1847-1851 in Warwickshire, on the 1861 was Mary Ann Gillam, daughter of Thomas & Mary Ann Gillam, who were also both b. Warwickshire.

Similar negative findings resulted from searches of the 1871 and 1881, so I went backward in time to see what I could find…

The two sure finds are that Patrick was in the British Army and his marriage record:

1841 England Census > Leicestershire > Manchester > District Salford Barracks
Patk Glynn [indexed as Glenn] 20 private IRE

England & Wales, FreeBMD Marriage Index: 1837-1983
Patrick Glynn & Ellen Shereden 1849 Manchester/Lancs.
QTR: Apr-May-Jun
Vol 20
Pg 716

A search for Ann’s birth was less definitive, although of these 4, I like the first one best:

1) Eliza Ann Glynn	1850	Apr-May-Jun	Manchester (1837-1924) Lancashire

2) Eliza Ann Glenn	1848	Jul-Aug-Sep	Nuneaton Leicestershire, Warwickshire

3) Ann Glenn	1851	Jul-Aug-Sep	Warwick (To 1932) Warwickshire

4) Mary Ann Glynn	1850	Jul-Aug-Sep	Manchester (1837-1924) Lancashire
On 1861 this is probably the d/John

In checking DEATHS for Ellen & Patrick, I found:

1) Ellen Glynn	abt 1827	1871 Jan-Mar	Liverpool (1837-1934)	Lancashire

2) Ellen Glynn	abt 1821	1870 Liverpool (1837-1934)	Lancashire
Maybe wf/Michael on 1861. She was b Mullaga, IRE,

3) Patrick Glinn	abt 1824	1869	Liverpool (1837-1934)	Lancashire

Nevertheless, here are the census finds that I thought were interesting, if indefinite -- except for the 1851 included for completeness and my starting point:

1851 England Census > Durham > Winlaton > District 1g
Patrick Glynn lodger md 30 pitman [a coal miner] IRE Galway
Ellen lodger/wife md 26 IRE Galway
Ann dau 2 Warwickshire

1861 England Census > Yorkshire > Halifax > Halifax > District 33
No 50 on sched., 33 King St.
Patrick Glyn head 39 hairdresser IRE Ellen wife md 33 IRE
Margt. Dau 1-1/2 Yorkshire/Halifax
--This is the only Patrick & Ellen couple on the 1861, Soundex search. If this is correct, Patrick has certainly made an interesting occupation change, from coal miner to hair dresser!

1861 England Census > Lancashire > Manchester > St George > District 22
Ann Glinn [sic] serv. Unmd 14 serv. B Lancs/Manchester
Lvg w/Mary McDonough, 35, beggar, blind 14 yrs
--Though age is a bit off, I think this is best 1861 fit for Ann.

1861 England Census > Durham > Winlaton > District 6
Patrick Glynn md 40 lab IRE
Mary wife md 36 IRE
Margaret dau 7 Durham/Blaydon
Thomas son 5 Durham/Blaydon
Bridget dau 2 Durham/Blaydon
--Included because of Durham/Winlaton location.

NO 1871 Patrick or Ellen hits, which does line up with the Death hits above.

RE your post on Genealogy.com that Ann Glynn in London on the 1881 is the same person, that person was b. “Westminster, St. Margaret’s.” There is a birth registration for an ANN GLINN, QTR: JUL-SEP, WHITECHAPEL, LONDON, MIDDLESEX, which is more likely this Ann Glynn in 1881.

With apologies if any or all of this is old news.
Susan Bork
Re: Glynn's from Galway

I visited my relatives in Loughrea, County Galway in 1963. They lived in a pub with the name Francis Glynn over the door. He would have been born circa 1880. His children were Thomas, Andrew, James, Eileen and Chrissy. Only Thomas (my grandfather) married. He married Winifred Honoria Keane, also of Loughrea. They emigrated to Chicago in the 1920s. Somewhere I have a picture (in electronic form) of a Glynn gravestone from the cemetary in Loughrey with generations of Glynns data on it. I also met an aunt with the last name of McGloin while I was there.
