I am doing research on the Gobers. My name is W. Glen Gober and my line is through Lewis Gober, Charles Lewis, James N.,William Asbury and my father George W. Gober. I'm not familiar with the Lewis family but would be interested in the Gober family pictures. My e-mail address is goberwg@charter.net. Let me know about the pictures you have.
W. GLEN GOBER

Mary Ann (Camp) Gober, for whom I was named, was my great-great-grandmother on my father's mother's side of our family. Her husband was John Stonewall Jackson Gober. No surprise on which side of the Civil War JSJ's father fought. :-)

Mary Ann

John Thomas, son of Lewis J Gober (B Franklin Cty Ga 1824 died 1907 in Beaumont Tx)

I do not go back prior to Lewis - but I find marriages of other Gobers in this part of Georgis around 1820. Does you book include any relavent information? Thank you in advance

Re: Looking for the father of Hiram Gober

According to the book "Descendants of William Gober I" by Margaret "Peggy" Williams Taylor the Hiram Gober you are researching is Hiram White Gober. His father was William Y. Gober, born 5 May 1770 in Granville Co., North Carolina; married Frances Scurry Oct. 1795 in Granville Co., North Carolina. Hiram White Gober was born 12 Jun. 1802 in Franklin Co., Georgia and married Elizabeth Burns Gober. There are other Hiram Gober's but this comes nearer to the one you are looking for. I beleive reprints are available through The National Gober Family Assoc. The book is $85 and may be ordered through the Assoc. c/o Mr. John D. Bourne, Treasurer 306 Doncaster DR IRMO, SC 29063. If I may be of any further assistance feel free to call on me and if I can't get you the answer I know who does know.
GLEN GOBER

Ive been digging in the Gober Book and found some new information on your line.

The Book has nothing on Lavinia but her marriage so we would love to have her decendants.

Reggie may be Morris Reginold Gober known as "Regie" born 1888 in Texas and died 1933 in Texas. He had a brother named Charles W. Gober also born in Texas so that may be your Charles and not mine. They would have been cousins to Lavinia.

I found a James Gober, Jr. B. 1811 and D. 1890 who was a Primitive Baptist Minister starting in 1855 in Benton Co., Alabama. We don't have a middle initial so it might be your Rev. J. W. Gober.

Also you listed that Daniel Appling Gober died in Arizona but it was in Monticello, Drew Co, Arkansas. That is 35 miles from me so I'll try to locate their burial site.

Always love to find new cousins! Hope I hear from you, Patricia

I would very much like to see these pictures.

My great-great-great grandfather, was Charles Lewis Gober, Sr. A nephew to Daniel Appling Gober.

I wonder if the Charlie picture you have could be him or his son, Charles Lewis, Jr.

I know that Lavinia had sisters named Susie (Susanna Mahuldy Gober) and Lizzie (Eliza Fanning Gober) This could also be Fannie???

The Lucy could possibly be Daniel's Mother as her name was Lucy Appling Campbell??

If you would, please email the picturs to me at nocamp@seark.net. Put Gober Pictures in the subject please.

I'd love to find a picture of either of our Charles, since we have none.

If I can't find these people, I can forward them to the genologists at the National Gober Family of the USA. Also I have the official Gober book and can look up the others for you.

Thanks, Patricia

Do any of these names sound familiar????
Bobbie Gober
Susie Gober
Lizzie Gober
Rev J.M. Gober
Fannie Gober
Charlie Gober
These names come from a very old photo book. (probably 1800's) There is a name registery at the back, no names on pictures and pictures have been moved around. According to Ancestry.com the Gober family starts in my husband's family with Lavinia Gober 1821-1889 Born in Georgia..died in NC Her father was Daniel Appling Gober 1791-1868 Born in NC and died in Arizona His father was William Gober 1744-1826 Born in NC and died in Georgia. His father was William Gober 1721 - 1794 Born in Virginia and died in NC.
I don't know if any of this helps. Please let me know what I can share with you. Mickey
My name is Bonnie Gober Crocker & I can be reached at crockerb123@hotmail.com -- I would love to have the old pictures you have emailed to me.

James Gober Jr. was my gg-grandfather.

James Gober Jr, b. 15 Sep 1811 Georgia, d 15 Jan 1890 Old Burleson, Franklin County, Alabama. He married Nancy Winn/Wynn/Wynne about 1833 in Sweeten's Cove, Marion County, Alabama. She died in Tishomingo County, Mississippi. They are buried in Old Friendship Cemetery out from Belgreen in Franklin County, Alabama.

This is his obituary done by the Little Vine Association on Session on Friday before the Third Sunday in September 1890:

Obituary
In Remembrance of our beloved brother, James Gober, who was born Sept. 15, in the year of our Lord 1811, and departed this life January 20, in the year of our Lord, 1890, aged 78 years, four months and five days. He was a loving husband and father in his family; and lived in peace with everybody. He joined the Primitive Baptist Church in the year 1866 and began preaching a short time afterwards, and from that time to his death contended for the faith as it was once delivered to the saints, giving God all the honor and glory of his salvation. His departure is the absence of a well-beloved brother whose place is not easily fuilled. We feel his absence, but at the same time we feel that our loss is his eternal gain. We extend to his breaved family and widow, our beloved sister, our heartfelt sympathy. May the blessings of God attend them through life and comfort them in death is our prayer.

James Gober & Nancy Winn/Wynne Gober had 9 children, the first 8 were born in Benton County (now Calhoun) Alabama and the last child, Newton Jasper Gober was born in Franklin County, Alabama:

William Arthur Gober b. 3 Aug 1834 m. #1 Lucy Almeda Smith, #2 Clemie Hill Chafin

James Thomas Gober b. 29 Dec 1837 m.
Re the list of names in the old photo book, I've spent quite a bit of time (happily) going thru the Gober book tonight trying to find out more about the names shown. The names are too numerous. I tried to find a common thread, i.e, where they were born, etc, but it became such a daunting task that I dropped the searches.

I did want to share with you what is in the book on the family of Lavinia/Lavina Gober. It may be a duplicate of what you already have, but I'm sending it just in case.

Dr. Daniel Gober was b. 10 Mar 1791 in Granville Co NC & died 4 Jan 1868 in Drew County, Arkansas, age 76, & was buried 6 Jan 1868 in Mt. William Gober II's will and numerous land records are shown in the Gober book which I have in my possession & to which I was a contributor. The title of the Gober book is "Decendants of William Gober I", compiled by Margaret "Peggy" Williams Taylor, published 2000. Also, in the book are records pertaining to William Gober I, b. circa 1715 poss. England or Virginia, d. Aug 1794 in Granville Co NC. His estate probated Aug 1794 in Granville Co NC He m. I received records for both men. In addition, I received the Revolutionary War records of William Gober I. We have always called father & son William Gober I and William Gober II.
No, I haven't seen any pictures. How many pix do you have? If just a few, I thought you could scan them on email(s) to me. crockerb123@hotmail.com If too much trouble, that's okay.

When I go to flea markets & such, and see old photographs, sometimes in pristine condition, it almost hurts my heart because I know that somewhere somebody would love to have them. I guess in estate sales everything was just tossed in the pile to be sold. Sad.
