Gochnauer Newsletter

To all,

If you have already received this please disregard.
I have decided to restart The Trailseekers newsletter. James Gochanour eggbert50@yahoo.com will be assisting me and it will be a joint effort between us. The first issue will be mailed on or about the first of April (That's not an April Fools Joke, either).

The April Issues front page story will be about a WWII pilot that was missing in action whose wreckage location is believed to be near the wreckage of another plane that has been discovered and the process has been started to return the remains to the next of kin. (The other plane "Hot As Hell" was flying in formation with it was located.)

The August Issue front page story will be BO Cohenour Texas A&M 1941 football star and farmer.

The December Issue has not been decided yet. I've got a number of excellent stories to use for the front page.If I receive something from someone that's better then that will go in. So please submit your articles or your discoveries to share with the other researchers.

The price of the newsletter will be $40.00 a year for four newsletters. Most of you remember in the past the newsletter was packed with information and stories about all variations of the Gochenour name. It will be even better this time. Since I will only be putting out three newsletters this year, the cost this year will be $30.00 for this year only..

I've been told by a lot of people that they miss receiving the newsletter. NOW'S YOUR CHANCE. Please, if you are interested in subscribing to The Trailseekers newsletter, send me an email so I can get an idea just how many may be interested. If I receive an email, I will send you an application to fill out with a place for a query, too.

I hope to hear from all of you.

William A. Gochenour Jr.
wagochATyahooDOTcom
He settled in Berkely, where he raised my father and lived there until his death in 1967.

I seem to recall my father telling me about John Gochnauer from Missouri. I think he might be my great uncle, but I'm not sure.

Are you related to the Church's?

My grandmother, Ella Gochnauer, was born in Lancaster, PA in the late 1800's. She had 3 "spinster" sisters, Annie, Elizabeth, ?. They had only one brother, Samuel, who had only one son, Richard (Dick), who has only one son (also Richard?). They inherited the family home in Lancaster.
The family was originally plain-dressing Mennonite, wearing only black and white. My grandmother's generation switched to more "liberal" religions, but Lancaster is still very Mennonite or Pennsylvania Dutch. My family was descended in more than one branch from Hans Herr, founder of Lancaster County.

Ellen,
I am trying to find a connection to the Gochenour/Gochnauer line from PA, specifically Adams and York counties. I have a Jesse Gochenour born 26 Sep 1870 in York Springs, Adams, PA to Eli Gochnauer/Gochenour. Do you know of a relation to your PA Gochnauers? I believe Eli was born in Lancaster County 1824-1827 and had a brother named Edward. Thanks. Monica coxthmd1@concentric.net

Hi,

Sorry, it looks like I never replied to you, although I may have sent a reply off the list. My Gochnauers were strictly from Lancaster, from fairly early on. There were several Gochenours who sailed to PA in the early 1700's. So far, I haven't found the link between my family and one of those arrivals. Good luck with finding yours. The first of my line I know of is Adam Gochnauer, born 1790.

Happy Hunting,
Ellen Campbell Schaefer
Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada
schaefer@icrossroads.com
