Seeking descendants and/or information on William Godard who appears on the 1860 Macon County, Missouri census. He lived at LaPorte Post Office. He was age 37, born in Pennsylvania. His wife was Ellen B., age 29, born in Indiana. Living with them were Thomas Evens, age 22, born in Missouri, a miner; also Humphrey Roberts, age 25, born in Missouri, also a miner. William was a farmer. Any info appreciated.

I am fairly confident I am apart of the line you are talking about. My g grandfather is Alcide. His family came to the United States, they had another son in VT, where they lived. My g grandfather passed about a decade ago, one of his sons has done extensive research tracing this line back to about 1633, I am working on getting my hands on it now. I would be more than happy to share this information with you once I get it from him.

My great grandfather and some of his children were born in Crysler Ontario. I have some family members who have gone back quiet a way in the family tree, if I remember right the 1600's. I just started out working on my grandmothers side, but I would love to see if we have information that can help one another. I am also on a group from facebook, where there is a group of just Godards some are from Ontario. Hope this helps your search!

When I was a kid there were Godards living in Casselman which is about 10 miles from Moosecreek. Mrs Godard was a good friend of my grandmother's. My grandmother had once lived in Moosecreek so they may have met there. Mr and Mrs Godard would be buried in Casselman now. They had children.

Hello Barry. So good to hear from you. As you can see from my original posting, I am searching the family of William Goddard b. April 11, 1846 in Bilsington Kent, England. His parents were Samuel Goddard and Jane Rayner and I belive his Grandparents might be William Goddard and Sarah Dixon. On the tombstone in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, in Toronto, only Hannah [Drury] Goddard is mentioned. I do not know that William ever came to Canada, but likely died in England, but I have not been able to find a death for him.

I have brothers of my grandfather Albert Godard b 1898 who are named Edmond, Earnest, and Renee. My g-grandfather was Samual and they were fron Espanola. My mother thinks though that they were born in Quebec. There are 9 other siblings. I have included there names, but I have more.

Your Goddards from kent are members of a branch of my family from that area. My mom is Alma, daughter of Damasse and Rosa. As far as Montcalm is concerned I was always told that we are decendents of his brother and father and not from the General himself but my info. may be wrong. In my Grandparent's Family Bible (location unknown)there was a family tree listing all our ancestry going back to the name Montcalm. If I remember correctly our great grandmother's maiden name (Rosa's mom) was Montcalm. Can you let me know of any new info?
Also I was once told that we are of native ancestry on the Godard side. Do you have any info on this?

My line is from Ralf Goddard b; 10 Oct. 1871. He married Eliza 'Lalla' West Drane and moved to Long Beach, CA around the turn of the century. They had 2 children; Sara (died as infant) and Glave Andrews Goddard who married Judith Ann Gibson. They in turn had 2 children; Elizabeth Glave Goddard and William 'Billy' Walter Goddard (My father) b; 1944 in Pasadena, CA.

Bill Goddard married Sylvia Gail Staton in 1962 who in turn had 1 child and that child is me. Brian Anthony Goddard b; 9 Aug. 1966.

Any information on this line of Goddard's would be appreciated. I am really looking for information on William Wirt Goddard and his father and grandfather. I believe they were from Maryland.

My Dad is their son and he says that we are descendents of General Montcalm who responded to the British attack on Quebec during the battle on the Plains of Abraham, September 13, 1759.

I am research a Louis Jerome who was born in NY in 1846. His parents I believe are from Quebec. I do not think the family name was Jerome but that it is an immigration name. Have you heard of any Geroux changing their name to Jerome in the US. Thank you for your assistance.

Thank you for your reply. Susan Franklin Nalborough, was the 3rd daughter of Charles Nalborough and Mary Ann (Polly) Harding, who were married in East London, July 29, 1863. They emigrated to Canada about 1873. I do not know where Charles was born. One researcher suggests Liverpool. Where do you and your son Adam reside?

I am researching my ancestor Sophie Godard dit Lapointe (born 1848?-died 8 Feb 1921 Sturgeon Falls). She married Onesime Lafrance 1867 St. Albert, Ontario. John Godard, of Poulton and Uphams, Co. Wilts, living from 1368 - 1434, held property at Upham, as per family deed dated 1429.

His son and heir, John Godard, of Poulton and Upham, was father of Walter Godard, of Cherill, living 1460, whose son John Godard, of Upham and Clyffe Pypard, is stated in the visitation of Wilts by Robert Tresswell, Bluemantel, 1569, to have married Elizabeth, daughter of William Beringer, of Manningford Bruce, Wilts. He died 10 March, 1545, leaving issue.

Thomas Godard, of Upham (and of Ogbourne) Wilts, 2d son of John Godard, of Upham, (see Godard of Clyffe), by his wife Elizabeth Beringer, living temp. Henry VIII, m. 1st, Anna, sister of Sir George Gifford, Co. Berks, and was succeded by his son, Richard Goddard (the second 'd' appears! - Chris), who resided in a handsome mansion at Upham, which had belonged to John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, was said to have been granted by him to the family of Goddard.

He married Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas Walrond, Esq., of Albourn, and had (with a daughter Elizabeth, m. Louis Pollard, Esq., of Newenham) three sons, 1. Thomas, his heir, 2. Edward of Engelsham, m. Priscilla, daughter, of John D'Oyly, Esq., of Chiselhampton; 3. Richard of Upham.

Edward Goddard, of Engelsham, farmer, born in Norfolk, England, about 1600, was once very wealthy, but reduced by oppressions during Civil War. His house was destroyed by a Company of Cavaliers. He escaped in disguise. There were ten children who lived to become men and women. We have no record of children except William Goddard, beginning the American Genealogy.

This family is listed as living in Chatham Twp. in 1851, although most of the children are born at Ste.Therese de Blainville in Terrebonne. An older sibling in the family is living in St.Andre in 1851. Please look for Joseph Godard dit Lapointe married to a Julie/Angelique St.Amour dit Payette. They should have several children and this couple
will likely be somewhere in their 40's in age.

I have managed to trace my Godard line. I am not familiar with any McCutcheon's. I guess the census for 1851 for this area of Quebec was destroyed by a fire and so some mysteries will remain unanswered. My Godard's migrate to Finch,Stormont County,Ontario in the 1850's. Any chance your Godard's moved there as well? Other Godard's also in nearby Embrun,Cambridge,Moosecreek and Clarence, Ontario. There are alot of Scottish settlers in this area of Ontario as well. You might want to check out Stormont County as well as Prescott,Russell and Glengarry Counties in Ontario.

Added Info: Jean Batiste Godard, father to Alphonse Godard married to Olivine (Labelle) Godard. They had 17 children all born in Chrysler, Ontario: Gerard (my father), Martha, Alice, Adelard, Etienne, Ovila, Alcide and 6 other names unkown as well as 4 who died very young. Unfortunately none of these remain living.

I am the youngest of eleven children born to Gerard Godard and Marie Laure (Brunet) Godard. My father was born in Chrysler, Ontario 1911. He was from a family of 17 children. I believe my grand father's name was Alphonse Godard.

Pauline - thanks for the info on Sophie Godard dit Lapointe! I thought I had reached a dead end and was getting frustrated. Another cousin of mine thought Sophie's parents were Adolfe Godard and Zepherine Brunette but I can't find those names anywhere in my research. I was also told she may have been Native Indian or Metis. I am now exploring the new names you have so kindly given me and hopefully will have better luck.The location fits with my other info. Do you have parents name for Pelagie Lafrance dit D'Aragon that you mentioned? I am wondering if she is on my Daragon dit Lafrance branch. I have a Joseph Daragon dit Lafrance married Pelagie Beauchamp and am wondering if this could be a daughter. This is the only other generation I am having trouble finding info on. Sophie Godard dit Lapointe from St. Albert, Ontario

My great-great-grandmother was Sophie Godard dit Lapointe. She was born about 1847/48 in Quebec and died 8 Feb 1921 in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario. She married Onesime Lafrance (dit Daragon) in St. Albert, Ontario about 1867. My family oral history has been that she was Metis and that her parents were Adolphe Godard and Zepherine Brunet. I found a couple with those names married in 1868 but this cannot be her parents as they married one year after her! Were there two couples with these names? I have a photo of Sophie and Onesime taken in the late 1800s that can be seen at http://www3.sympatico.ca/smaw/ . There may be other Godards on the bottom of this page listed under "unknowns". The mystery of Sophie's parentage has been solved! With the help of a distant cousin, we have discovered that Adolphe Godard was Sophie's BROTHER, not father!! Here are the facts:
Sophie Godard dit Lapointe was born 19 February 1847 and baptized on the 20th at Ste. Therese de Blainville, Terrebonne, Quebec. Her parents were Joseph Godard dit Lapointe and Angelique/Julie Payette dit St. Amour. Sophie's Godparents were Marcel Payette and Henriette Charbonneau. I would love to hear from anyone descended from Sophie and Onesime Lafrance.

My father, Emile Godard dit Lapointe was born in Crysler in May 1891 - his parents were Eusebe II and Marie Leocadie Sabourin and grandparents Eusebe I and Honorine Sabourin. Eusebe I and Honorine are buried in Crysler.

I don't know if it's the same one but I have a Sofia Godard dit Lapointe born 1847, dgtr of Joseph & Angelique Payette. Joseph & Angelique m. 18 Feb 1828 in Ste-Therese de Blainville, QC. I have no other info on Sofia, her marriage or her death.

A son of Joseph & Angelique, Joseph married a Pelagie Lafrance dit D'Aragon 3 March 1851 in St-Andre Argenteuil.

Another son of Joseph & Angelique is my great grandfather Eusebe I m. Honorine Sabourin.

Hope this helps you. Perhaps someone has info on Sofia or Sophie.

I think you've mixed up Marie with Jeanne.
Marie b. 1641, m. 29 Sept 1654 Toussaint Giroux in Quebec, died 22 Nov. 1684 in Beauport. I met a descendant of Toussaint who seemed very knowledgeable & asked her about Marie. Seems nothing is known about Marie and oddly enough, the names of her parents were not listed on their marriage certificate.

Jeanne b. 1638, dgtr of Robert & Antoinette Grandpierre of Charly, diocese of Soissons, Ile-de-France, m. 23 Sept 1658 Simon Roy in Montreal. Remarried 20 Nov. 1662 Pierre Pigeon in Montreal.

That's all I know about them.

Patrick Henry Godard was born Jan 9, 1823 in the Barnesville-Forsyth area of Georgia. Patrick served in the Civil War but his record shows him as H. P. Godard rather the P. H. Godard. He moved from Georgia to Ken. with his wife Rebecca, finally making his home in Tenn. Rebecca's father was Benjamin Fitzpatrick High of Georgia. Benjamin came from a long line of men named John High. My grandfather was born in Casselman which is in the Chrysler area. My g-grandfather was Samual or Selime Godard b February 27, 1873 in Casselman. He married a Marie-Euphrazine (Phrezilde) Guerin b July 13, 1875. They married January 7, 1896 in St Albert, On, Ca. I believe his parents were Eusebe Godard dit Lapointe d in Chrysler August 23, 1905 and Marie Honorine Sabourin.

I too am working on the Godard, Guerin families. My g-grandfather was Selime (Samual) Godard and he married a Phrezilde Guerin sometime around 1896 in the Casselman area. Hello, I've been researching my G Grandmother, Elizabeth Franklin Nalborough. In doing so I found the birth certificate of Susan Franklin Nalborough in Marylebone. Her father is listed as Charles and his mother Mary Ann, but her maiden name is shown as "Ireland", not "Harding". Can you let me know your sources for Harding as the mother's name? I also have Charle William's birth certificate in 1870. It also shows Charles Nalborough at the father, but "Mary Nalborough formerly Baker" as the mother. Did Charles have many wives, all with the first name Mary?
