I corresponded some years ago with Win before his health declined, he had offered me a book but I don't think I took him up on the offer. It seems I have seen it online and the only place I can suggest to try is the Godfrey Mem. Library. They have an online site, with a subscription for ancestry searching. If you have any CT searching to do, it has a lot of info.

This is some of the information that I have from Maryland Books aquired at the Mormon Library in Salt Lake City, UT. George Goddard had a Goddard Chapel and there is a community of "Goddard" that is an unincorporated area and census-designated place (CDP) in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States.[1] The population was 5,554 at the 2000 census. You can look this up on the internet by putting in "Goddard, Maryland."

Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. Tim Endecott will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery near Letts.

Visitation is noon until service time Friday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established for the Clearview Seventh Day Church of God.

Mr. Goddard was born March 3, 1933, in Muscatine, the son of Benjamin Ivan and Elda Myrtle Haldeman Goddard. He married Esther Moomey July 15, 1952.

He was a lifetime farmer and a member of the Clearview Seventh Day Church of God.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Nick Goddard and wife Sharon of Marceline, Mo., Jack Goddard and wife Bobbie of Naples and John Goddard and wife Denise of Nichols; daughters, Penny Goddard of Letts, Chris Endecott and husband Tim of Wellman and Rhonda Heckman and husband Mark of West Liberty; 22 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; a brother, Gene Goddard and wife Wanda of Letts; sisters, Elda Mae Snyder and husband Dick of Salem, Shirley Hinkhouse and husband Gene of Muscatine, Mary Ellen Simon and husband Joe of West Liberty, JoAnn Plett and husband Paul of Letts, Lois Wilson and Rhea Brookhardt and husband Paul, all of Muscatine; and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Goddard of Muscatine.

She owned and managed several furniture stores across Iowa and Illinois and was later employed by Davenport and Rock Island Goodrich Tire Stores.

She was a member of Glad Tidings Church, where she was secretary and treasurer and registered agent; member of the Sunlighters Ladies of the church; and a former member of the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, camping, crafts and sewing and was always staying busy with a project.

Survivors include her husband, Everett of Muscatine; three sons, Gary W. Goddard of Galesburg, Ill., Dennis A. Goddard and David H. Mortice Goddard, both of Davenport; three stepsons, Michael L. Adams of Davenport, Ricky E. Adams and wife Sandi of Muscatine and Roger R. Adams and wife Lori of Washington; two stepdaughters, Vicki L. French and husband Wayne and Teresa M. Riley and husband Gary, all of Muscatine; a sister, Dorothy Couper and husband Jack of Loveland, Colo.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

Searching for information on the family of William Goddard II of Greene Co, PA. He married Hannah Huffman in 1807 in Monongalia Co, (W)VA. He and his family appear on Greene County census records and on tax records there until 1821. I have not been able to find them after that date. Per an old family letter, they went to Missouri c1836. However, I have not located them there either. Where are they between 1821 and c1836? William was the son of William and Elizabeth (perhaps Kellam) Goddard of Greene Co, PA. The elder William died there in 1818. Will on record. Anyone out there descended from William Goddard II or working on this family? I would truly like to hear from you? My experience with the name Goddard even on the same document is to have it spelled with one or 2 "d"s. Interesting one d might be french. Our Fred was born in IA 1884, Fort Dodge area, Webster Co. Other spellings I have seen in the Goddard News letter are Gothard, Godward and Gothard. Most come from the New England area. I don't know of a sir name that does not carry several spellings. Our visit to OH and IA was interesting but not as informative as one might hope. In IA we did find proof of birth on John Henry and Anna (Hannah) Gene Shackles Goddard's first son Fred Arthur Wilson Goddard, not on the first Lena or the Second Charles or third Harry Milton. Traveled to several counties in OH and researched in the State Archives to no avail! Looked mostly for vertical files and Genealogies done by residents of OH. Sure had a good time and found most of the research places most helpful! You meet a lot of great people doing research. The reason I posted here is that there are a lot of first names we share. Did your Fred go to IA or MO any where outside OH? Were any of your Goddards Methodist? Thanks Beth

They lived in Beaver County, PA from at least 1820-1845. Then between 1845 and 1850 most of the family moved to Hancock County, Virginia. Some of the older children stayed in Beaver County, Pennsylvania.

Yes, this is the same person. I have seen him listed as Dorsa, Dawson, Dorsey, Dosey, etc in various census reports. On his headstone is the name Dorsa.

I am mostly looking for pictures or documents that give me a little more info about the family (more than the census reports would)

Fred Sylvester Goddard was my great-grandfather and was born in Iowa in 1862. Eventually moved to North Dakota, which is where I'm from. Technically, my family were Presbyterians, but that's almost the same thing as Methodist anyway. Our local Presbyterians joined forces with the Methodists and are now operating under the United Methodist banner. I think that was just a local thing, born out of convenience and practicality in a small community.

My grandmother's name is Hilda Goddard. Her dad was from somewhere in Europe. His name was Charley/Charles Goddard. He was in the army and he died in Antigua, West Indies. Are you SURE that the Elias Goddard in Floyd Co. is your GGG grandfather?
This was Cherokee Nation at that time. Was he Cherokee?

I think there MAY have been two Elias', but am not sure.
It seems one was married to a Nancy Russell and the other to a Cherokee woman, Mary...
One is seen in Morgan Co. in 1820, with another Elias and a Thomas.
It could also be that these are all the same man..but does not account for two families...but you never know!

James "Jim" Goddard

I am trying to trace the above named gentleman, possibly from the Newcastle or North East of England area. He is believed to have served in the Army and is known to have been in Luneberg, Germany at the time of the German surrender in June 1945.

I would estimate that he was born between 1915 and 1920.

How did your researches in Ohio go?

Back in 2004, Andy did not share --perhaps did not yet know-- that the children of Anson Godard and Elsie Moore of Chautaqua, NY were: Hannah, William, Caroline, Martha, Albert and Little Elsie. Anson's parents were Aaron Godard and Hannah Young, and their descendants for the most part remained in New York and Illinois for a generation, at least.

There is a Frederick in our lineage, and a shocking number of Ezras...

Hey Beth--

Our Godards are consistently spelled with one D. I gather this would be typical of, but not exclusive to, Godards of French origin.

We have a Frederick, and his nephew, a Fredrick (according to census records, anyway).

The former was born in Illinois. His mother died young and his father remarried; by 15 he was living with one of his paternal uncles in Chautauqua, and by 35 was apparently here in Portland, Oregon!

The latter did apparently sometimes go by Fred. His father Frank, half brother to the first Frederick, took his young family to Saginaw, Michigan, where Fred was born and lived until 1910 when he was 21. I have yet to discover where he went after that.

As far as I know, nobody in our Godard line lived in MO, OH or IN, alas.
