Hi, I have just found this website. My name is Nicole and i too was born in New York City. I know that my father's family is from NC (new bern?, new berg?, havelock?)but i have not been there since my grandmother died in 1987 but i was too young to remember anything. Her name was Mary Godette and was married to Charles Godette. He owned a barber shop. They both died that year. My great grandparents name on Mary's side of the tree was Mary(nurse) and she married Samuel Brock(railroad conductor). I believe they had 4 or 5 children. Samuel(served in the military for 30 years), Lonnie aka Bobbie, Walter aka Hannas, my grandama Mary and her sister(name unknown).
I have never met another Godette that wasnt in my immediate family sorta. My aunt(Barbara Godette), my dad(Fernie Godette), and my uncle(charles Godette)with my cousins(Alicia, Antwone and Myisha) from them are the only relatives that i have ever met up until last year. I just met my fathers nephew Terry Godette that was born to my dads late sister Gloria and know of his sister Regina but have never met her. The family moved to New York after my uncle charles, who is now 57, was born on the back porch and delivered by my greatgrandma.
I have been tracing the tree so i have some info but not a bunch. We have never been to any Godette family reunions and it seems that we lost all contact with our family in NC after my grandma died. Please help me reconnect.
