Joseph and Catherine Godlewski from Chicago

I am looking for any relatives of Joseph and Catherine Godlewski. Joseph was my grfather's brother. Joseph died July, 1934. Catherine died Sept. 1961 both in Chicago. Their daughter, Mary (Mae)Godlewski married Waclaw Skonieczny (Skonicki). Mae died in Worcester, MA.

Other children are:

Anna - Married Jozef Zakrzewski.
Stanley or Charles
Frank
Aneline
John (died as an infant)
Eleanora (Leona) died as an infant
Walter - married to Geraldine
Louis - Married to Lillian
Edward - married to Mary

I have posted to this message board many times but I thought that maybe a new thread is needed for my search. I am looking for any family members related to Joseph and Catherine Godlewski. They came to Chicago from Osobnica, Poland,in the early 1900's and lived in Chicago all their lives. Joseph died in 1934 and Catherine died in 1961. One daughter is Mary (Mae)Godlewski married to Walter Skonieczny (now Skonicki). Walter died in Chicago in 1962 and Mae died in 1986 in Worcester, MA. Another daughter, Anna, married Joseph Zakrzewski.

Joseph Godlewski was my gr-father's brother and I would love to find a family member who would like to exchange family history and pictures with.

Hi, I have found these spellings on vital records for my family, all of my records are from MI, anyone have a connection? My g-grandfather Felix b 11/17/1873 names are Godlaski, Goodlaski, Goodlisk, Goodlewski, Goodlawsk, Gudlewski, Good. My g-grandmother Felice, Felixa, Felicia, Phyllis, b 06/21/1884 names are Dombroski, Dombrowski, Dabrowski, Domdroski, Dombrawski.

My fil knows nearly nothing about his family.
It is suspected that his grandfather came here from Poland before 1896. His name was Anthony Godlewski and he was married to a woman named possibly Josephine Ludorf. We do not know if they married before coming to the US or afterwards. They are supposed to have lived in Mount Carmel, Northumberland Co. area of PA. Later most of the family moved to NJ. The names we have for the children are:

Anthony Vincent
Joseph
Leon (a priest in NJ)
Florence
Dominick
Stanley
Bolich
Alexander
William

The children were born between 1896 - 1912. One has an unknown birthdate. If anyone knows any info on any of this family, we would really appreciate it!!

Sorry to say that do not have those two names but Bragiel (spoken as Brongel) is a name in my family tree. Maryanna Bragiel married Jakub Bragiel and they were from Osobnica, Poland.

Daniel, I was reviewing the message board for Godlewski and thought I would reply to your message posted in Feb.2000, I hope you get this.

I am researching the Godlewski name in Chicago and am hoping you are related to me and would like to share family info.

My gr-father was Martin Godlewski, his brother was Joseph Godlewski married to Catherine Pyznar Godlewski. I am hoping you are related to Joseph. You mention that your father was born in 1918, this would mean that your father is Louis married to Lillian.

I am looking for any relatives of Joseph and Catherine Godlewski who lived in Chicago at 5217 S. Winchester. The children are:

Angeline Godlewski - never married. Was buried in Resurrection Cemetery in April, 2002 by nephew Daniel Godlewski.

Joseph Godlewski was my gr-father's brother. They both lived on the south side of Chicago after coming to the U.S. in the late 1800's. They had many children, one girl, Mary (Mae) married Walter Skonieczny (Skonicki). After he died in 1962, Mae moved to MA where she died in 1986. Another girl, Anna, married Jozef Zakrzewski. Anna died in 1970. The boys were Stanley (do not know if he ever married), Frank (never married), Angeline (never married), Jan (died as a infant) Eleanora (died as an infant) Walter (married Geraldine) Louis (married Lillian) Edward (married Mary). I would love to hear from any one related to this family to exchange family info.

Daniel, I am looking for a Louis Godlewski married to Lillian. Louis' father was Joseph and his mother was Catherine (Katarzyna) Pyznar Godlewski. They lived on the south side of Chicago, 52nd & Winchester. l am the granddaughter of Martin Godlewski, Joseph's brother. I would really like to share information and pictures. If this is a relative of yours, please email me. My mother Mary is the only living child of Martin and I am trying to get as much info as I can for her. Daniel, is your father Walter and your mother Geraldine? If not Walter, maybe your father is Louis and your mother Lillian?? (I'm not sure which one might be your parents as I was taking info from a census). If so, your grandparents, Joseph and Catherine Godlewski are related to my grandparents, Marcin (Martin) and Rose Godlewski from Chicago. I meant to say Stanley was my Grandfather and John was my great Grandfather. I could be mistaken about John. My Grandfather's full name, however, was Stanley John Godlewski. He was born November 24, 1906 and died April 9, 1990. He spent most of his life in Syracuse NY... if that helps. I will be trying to find some more particulars on my grandfather's father, etc and get back with you. Stanley was married to Marie Ellen Basler from Mattydale NY.

Hi Linda, my son Tim forwarded your message to me as I am doing the Godlewski geneology search. There is a Stanley Godlewski in our family born in 1906 but he was born in Chicago. You say John was your grandfather and Stanley John was your grandfather. If Stanley was your great grandfather we may have a connection except I show that Stanley's father is Joseph Godlewski not John. How sure are you of your info. Joseph did have many children but they were all born in Chicago. Not sure where they all lived after they were grown, so if you think that Stanley could have been born in Chicago in 1906, then I would love to have this be a connection. Please email me back as soon as possible so we can exchange more information.

Joseph had a brother, Marcin (Martin) Godlewski and he was my grandfather.

My grandfather's name was John Godlewski. My grandfather was Stanley John Godlewski. I know he had a brother Chester..... several other brothers and a sister I think. Stanley lived in Syracuse NY but I was told I had rel. in Chic. and Michigan. Any relation? I think my grandfather came to US when he was roughly 12. He was born approx. 1906.

Looking for anyone who can help me find info on Martin (Marcin) Godlewski. Born in Osobnica around 1869-72?? Father was Andrew and mother was Regina Nowak. Came to the US, not exactly sure when 1890-1895??? I know he was in Chicago in 1896. I think the Catholic Church in that area was in Debowiec. That is where his birth records might be found. If you are, then we are related. Angeline was the daughter of Joseph and Catherine and Joseph was the brother of my grandfather Martin Godlewski. All the Godlewski's that I know of are from the Chicago area. Please get back to me if we are related. I am having a hard time finding any relatives of Joseph and Catherine. Thanks in advance.

I am looking for a Daniel Godlewski who buried the remains of Angeline Godlewski in Resurrection Cemetary in 2002.

The cemetery office told me that you were the nephew of the owner of the family plot so you would be related to me.
Martin Godlewski (my grandfather) and his brother Joseph owned the plot and I believe Angeline was the daughter of Joseph. I would love to have contact with you and share info about out family.

I have been in contact with Connie about these pictures and I don't believe they are the ones Uncle John was always talking about. I only hope they get to the people they belong to as we all know how much it would mean to us.

I have Godlewskis from Tl~uchowo, Poland emigrating to NJ (both Jersey City and Bayonne) in the late 19th/early 20th century. Jozef Godlewski and Elzbieta Skladlarska married in 1855 and two of their children (Tomasz, b. 1872 and Bronislaw, b. 1875) settled in Bayonne.

My great grandfather Thomas Godlewski (b 1873) and wife Stella(b1877) (Blumen?) were from Poland/Russia. They had 6 children: John, Sophia 1898, Jenny 1900,Clementine1909, Muriel 1912, Joseph 1915. A son Domenic dies in a street car accident.
For a while they lived in Bayonne, NJ. In the 1920s they brought a farm in Finderne NJ. They attended Sacred Heart Church. Their daught Clementine became a Carmelite Nun. Their house was very close to the railraod track and burned down. They rebuilt futher from the tracks.
Thomas's brother were :Jacob, Stanley, Chester, Benny (maybe others)
Stella had a sister Genevive . Genevive married Stephen Kolkowsky. Their children were: Charles, Leo, Henry, Helen, Walter, Jeanette, Jess and Pauline.
Does this sound familar to anyone? If so I would love to hear from you.

Also Joseph Serafin born1911 daughter Stachia Godlewski, las known address in Paramus NJ
Karolina Serafin born1908, last known address in Winnipeg Canada..Karol Serafin..born 1920 2 daughters (poland and canada)--other details unknown!
These Serafins are children of Lawrence (wawarniec) and Mary(maria)Kulec.

Mary Godliewska 4430 Honore St.

I have a death certificate for Mary Godliewska who lived at 4430 Honore Street. She died Oct. 30, 1906 at the age of one year and three months. I thought she was my Godlewski from Honore Street but it is not. If anyone out there wants a copy of this death cert, please let me know. There is not much more info on it regarding parents, just the address of death.

Hi Pam, my gr-father was Marcin(Martin) Godlewski born around 1867 in Osabnicia Poland. Don't know exactly when he came over but married his first wife in 1897 in Chicago. He had a brother Jozef who also married in Chicago in 1904, and a sister Anna who married Jozef Zakrzewski and also lived in Chicago. When Martin's first wife Zofia Pyznar died in 1907 he married my gr-mother, Rose Szewczyk in 1907. Rose came to the US in 1905 and I believe her other family members settled in PA. That is all I know. Do you have any info that would help me make a connection. Thanks in advance
