William Godwin/Escambia Co., Al.
My 3-greatgrandmother, Zilla T. Godwin married my 3rd greatgrandfather , Jesse Baggett in 1812 in Jefferson Co., Ga. Jesse and his brother(Granberry) and his father(Nicholas) had been living on 200 acres on Williamson's Swamp since 1805 in neighboring Washington County Ga. After Jesse and Zilla migrated to Conecuh Co, it appears that there are some Godwins living on this same property. Zilla was born 1788 in the Carolinas. I feel so strong that William is her brother and maybe they all traveled down together. Zilla and Jesse made history in that they had the first child born to white settlers in 1817! They named their first son Richard Thomas Baggett, thus maybe a clue to Zilla's family names(Richard Thomas). Our Baggett lines did not have that name.
Does anyone know more or can help me give Zilla her ancestors. Her family is in a cemetery in Castleberry. The first burial was in 1820, being her brother-in-law Granberry Baggett, who was a Lt. in the Indian Wars. He died/killed at 26 years of age.
