Re: Nancy Godwin, B - 11 Mar 1799

I hope you are still looking for answers. I was right. My grandparents Mary mcminn and caleb Godwin had three children: . .Robert godwin b.in 1794(my grandfather):then had Sarah born in 1796 and then your grandmother Nancy who was born 11 March 1799 in Preston WVA but back then was Virginia. Well, Caleb Godwin died the year your Nancy was born leaving Mary with three small children. Mary Mcminn Godwin remarried a man named Andrew Sterling in 1802 and since your Nancy was so small and young she took his name and became Nancy Sterling who married William Siglar. Andrew Sterling and Mary Mcminn godwin had 4 children and he died in 1814 and Mary remarried again a Louis Wilson and they had no children together. Our grandmother must have been very pretty!!!! I know William was an attorney in VA/West virginia. They must have gone to Tennessee cause Mary's brother Joseph Mcminn was the governor of Tennessee and a Senator before that so maybe it was to william siglar's advantage to practice law in Tennessee. You have peobably already found all this out. I guess we are 10th cousins or something. My email is sbatchel@aug.edu so please let me hear from you when you get this

I know you have probably found your information by now but I am a direct descendant of Mary McMinn and caleb godwin. They had robert and I believe a Nancy. I'll dig out my records and see. Robert godwin married mary barb and they had william siglar godwin who married mary magdaline cox but that was later than your Nancy. My mothers maiden name is also Godwin so I have lots of information from VA and WVA. We were all born there in that area. Nancy was probably the daughter of Mary Mcminn and Caleb Godwin.

Lisa,

I grew up hearing about "Uncle Fred" but I never met him. My father, his half brother, was in the Air Force and we moved aroung a lot. After Fred's mother, Editha Hall Godwin, died in 1903, his father, Marion H Godwin, married Minnie Howard in 1905. Fred was MH's first child and born in 1892. My father was MH's last child who was born in 1918.

Glad I could help. Let me know if you need more information.

Ed Godwin
Thank you Trevor for your swift response and kind offer of help with the Godwins and Vezeys. There is no particular rush for the information, so please don't make any special efforts on my behalf.Of course I will reimburse you for any expenses incurred. If you don't mind I would prefer to send you my postal address via email rather than write it here.
Hello Trevor,
I spotted your post on Ancestry about the Godwins of Batheaston and wondered if you could give me any further information. My grandmother was Annie Sophia Godwin b.1887 Batheaston and her father was Frederick Godwin b.1858 Batheaston. His father was Joseph b.about 1832 St. Catherine's and his father was William b.about 1804 Bathford. Also I think I spotted a Vezey connection somewhere in my research.
If you can help in any way I would be most grateful.
Thank you.
Pat Kelly

Re: Thomas Henry Godwin 1842-1920 Escambia Co., Florida

I am related to the Godwins in Escambia Co. I've managed to search my tree and find a direct line, which is as follows:

William M. Godwin (married Periby), Child:William M. GodwinII (born 1-20-1813, died 5-5-1897).

William Godwin II {married Elizabeth MCabe (b 1-20-1813, d 9-15-1876)} Child: Thomas Godwin (b 5-22-1842, d 6-28-1920).

Thomas Godwin {married Sarah E. Hammack (b 1-26-1847, d 3-27-1921)} Child: Marion Godwin

Marion Godwin {married Johnnie Annie (b 2-14-1883, d 5-3-1919) Child: Louie Lester Godwin (Sr.)

Louie Lester Godwin (Sr.) {married Leila R. Rigby, b june 1908)} Child: Louie Lester Godwin Jr.

Louie Lester Godwin Jr. {married Martha McKinney, who is dead but I don't know the date} Child: Richard Alan Godwin

Richard Allen Godwin {married Rhonda R. Barnes}
Child: Priscilla Darlene Godwin (b 1-27-1982)

I am Priscilla. I recognize my tree from Marion down. I believe I actually have pictures of him, but I'd have to dig around for them. In my synopsis above, I did not list syblings, as it would take too much time and space. I do have a brother, however, who will carry on the family name of Godwin, and he also has a son, but probably will not carry the family name on. He is autistic, so our line of "Godwin" will probably end there. I myself have two boys, but they, of course, will carry on my husbands name of Fenoff.
I am a direct decendant of Marion and Johnnie. Marion would be my Great Great Grandfather.

Here is my line: (It begins before Marion)

William M. Godwin (married Periby), Child:William M. GodwinII (born 1-20-1813, died 5-5-1897).

William Godwin II {married Elizabeth MCabe (b 1-20-1813, d 9-15-1876)} Child: Thomas Godwin (b 5-22-1842, d 6-28-1920).

Thomas Godwin {married Sarah E. Hammack (b 1-26-1847, d 3-27-1921)} Child: Marion Godwin

Maron Godwin {married Johnnie Annie (b 2-14-1883, d 5-3-1919) Child: Louie Lester Godwin (Sr.)

Louie Lester Godwin (Sr.) {married Leila R. Rigby, b june 1908)} Child: Louie Lester Godwin Jr.

Louie Lester Godwin Jr. {married Martha McKinney, who is dead but I don't know the date} Child: Richard Alan Godwin

Richard Allen Godwin {married Rhonda R. Barnes}
Child: Priscilla Darlene Godwin (b 1-27-1982)

I am requesting any information anyone may have on this line of Godwins. If you recognize any names, please contact me. I did not list sybling names, as it would take too long and too much space. This is just MY direct line. I'd like pictures if anyone has them to share. I have pictures of the newer generations (Louie L. Godwin Jr, Richard A. Godwin, and my own brother who is Jason E. Godwin {not listed above}). I'd also like to know what my great grandfather was like (Louie L. Godwin Sr).

Thank you!
Priscilla
piercedprincezz@yahoo.com

Wonderful. Until now I have been unable to trace any of Stuart's descendants. I am the grandson of his brother, Frank Godwin Sr. Any information you are willing to share on Stuart's descendants would be much appreciated. I have a pretty comprehensive upline trace from Harry Post, and if you are interested in genealogy I'd be happy to share it.

Not looking for John after all! Found my great-great grandparents. . . now stuck again! GG Gf was Wiley Calvin Godwin and wife Milly Jane McCullen. They left Sampson County, NC and were in Faulkner County, AR on the 1880 census. BY 1881, they were in Titus County, TX, per tax records. They died around 1888.
Wiley's mother was Nancy, born ~1818 in NC. NO IDEA WHO HIS FATHER IS. THere is never a father listed on census. . . from 1850-1870. BUT, Nancy kept having children. Anyone have any ideas on that???

HI
Stuart, here, from Chestertown, MD.

Your father, Leroy, spent several weeks with us in the spring of 1941, and he and attended the 1941 FDR inauguration parade in the White House Review stand. This was either through Earl's connection with FDR (Earl was the senior White House correspondent) or through my mother's conections -- she was secretary to Harry Hopkins, FDR's right hand man.

Is your dad still living?

I'm Stuart Godwin, Jr., grandson of Harry Post Godwin, whose four sons were, oldest to youngest, Earl, Harold, Frank (Francis) and Stuart. There were Parke Godwins, but not in that group of four.

Stuart Godwin, Jr. checking in here. I'm the son (obviously) of Stuart Godwin, who was the youngest son of Harry Post Godwin and Annie Falconer - not to be confused with Stuart Godwin, son or Earl Godwin (the eldest of the four sons.
I am showing up here because my grandson, Adam Godwin (from Des Moines, IA, but presently residing in Dahlian, China) got interested in the family genealogy.
I'll be happy to answer any queries that I can.
