If this is the same family... the first names or the same but the last is spelled (goehring)... i am a direct decendant of them. There is a website called Theoldhomestead.com. check it out. it gives a history of them. If it is the same family as mine, they are decendants of Wolfgang Goehring (germany). There is also a book that John published in 1911 regarding there family. I am in the process of getting a copy of it from Corpus Kristy, Tx library. Please email me at lilc61299@yahoo.com and we can communicate further.... we may even my related.

looking forward to hearing from you

I can assist in a peripheral way. If the father of your Charles L Goehring is Jacob, than my great-great grandfather was Jacob's brother. His name also was Charles L. Goehring. I can tell you a little about him. He owned a farm south of Pittsburgh, served in the Pennsylvania state legislature and owned a confectionary business. He liked to paint as a hobby and I have one of his paintings. His son, John M Goehring, my great-grandfather was the author of source of a lot of the genealogy info I've seen flying around on the web. I have original copies of the document that have been passed down to me so can vouch for their originality.

I've run across Gottlieb MEDINGER marrying Maria GOHRING in Baltimore on May 28, 1821. Their children included Charles(b ~1830), Susan(b ~1832), Henry(b ~1834), Caroline(b ~1838),George(b ~1840), Amelia(b ~1842), Alleta(b ~1845).

Your post caught my attention because, while I can't yet link this Gottlieb Medinger with my Medinger ancestor (John Andreas), a descendent of John Andreas Medinger married a ENDRES, which name is also in your list of names. All of this happened in Baltimore.
Tim Endres

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I don't do these groups but once or twice a month anymore. I haven't been very active in genealogy for a number of years now, collecting odd pieces now and then, answering a question if I can, taking a photo around Zelienople or Cranberry, that sort of thing.

Yes, the few pictures I've seen of 19th century Goehrings show them all to rather formidable (rather homely too - my own ancestors included).

No, sorry, my connection to the Goehring's is as follows:

Jeff Thomas
Joseph Thomas Jr
Joseph Thomas Sr
Ida Eckert
Magdalena Wurster
Catherine Wooster
Maria Magdalena Goehring
Heinrich Wilhelm Goehring

Now-a-days I just collect information on cousins when I run across it. Maybe someday I'll get it all computerized and sorted out.

Anyway, good luck with your hunting cous, and do contact Sally, shes good folks.

Jeff

Jeff
Glad you are home. I was about to contact you as I have not reached Sally Goehring. My grandfather was the 7th child of Abigail and William Croft. I have an old photo purported to be Abigail (a formidable looking woman). I have been looking for confirmation about Johann Adam Goehrings 2nd wife, who was Rebecca Meeker. She was the daughter of Korah (or Cory) Meeker, b. 1752 Essex Co. NJ, fought in the Revolutionary War, and arrived in Cranberry when Abigail was about 5 years old.
My information has Abigail joining the Baptist Church when age 16, being baptized in a creek. Then she 'placed her letter' in the Sandusky St. Baptist Church where her husband had been baptized in 1869.
According to the History of Butler Co. PA, the Crofts arrived in Cranberry from England (Rochester ?) in 1832. Frederick and William had other brothers who settled elsewhere in PA.
You mentioned Lulu Iona--are you descended from her?
Thanks for your information
Anita

2 Goehring family lines

I have 2 Goehring family lines in both my father and mother. I can trace back my mothers side to Martin Goehring, b 18 Spr 1769 and my fathers side to another Martin Goehring b 1667. Has anyone made a connection to these 2 lineages. We are very curuois since we have been told we should be connected this way. I am suspecting that either one of his sons or grandsons had a Martin that could be my other family line. Can anyone help?

Not sure of the Peru, Germany part. That's what I received in a letter several years ago from another Goehring researcher. I had been working on other lines, but am getting back on the Goehrings. I'm still gathering information on this line myself, so I'm still sketchy on a few details. There's also a Frederick Martin Goehring, b. Jan. 1883, son of Charles August Goehring and Adeline Matilda Michaelis of DeWitt County. Maybe he's a namesake of your Goehring. Send me your e-mail, because I have some other information that would be too lengthy to include in these short forum messages. You can contact me at dsheron@stic.net.

I just found out there was a Jacob Geohring who married a Byrd between 1830-1840 in Beaver County and they lived in or around New Brighton. Does this fit in with this family?

Thanks

Jean

Does anyone have anyone have any informaton on the Jacob Geohring listed in the 1850 Beaver County, Pennsylvania census who was born in Germany in 1772? He was living with an Eve who was born in Germany in 1787. Given the age difference this may have been a second marriage for him.

I am assuming this Jacob is the father of Jacob Jr., William, and John. Does anyone know how many children this had with either wife? When did this elder Jacob die? Did he leave a will?

Thank you so much?
