My Grandmother was a sister to Floyd and lloyd. Her name was Bernice.
I was hoping someone would know Ida's middle name or maiden name.
You have already given me a little more information than I thought possible. THANK YOU!!!
If you have any other information PLEASE I would love to hear from you.
Grandma told a story about Her dad. He said how the indians hid in the mountains and avoided being caught to go on the trail of tears. Also, that a writer was talking to evan and wrote stories. Not sure about this one though.
The last that I have to offer is that evan was chased in the swamp because he stabbed a man of color that came to the front door instead of the back door. Then he fled to the swamps from authorities?? Ida took him food often and grandma bernice said after a while she didn't take him food anymore.

Bessie appears to be 3-4 years old. She is wearing a white dress, large collar, knee high socks, shoes that fasten on the side. Photo is probably early 1900's.

Jane Goforth Powell - Southeast Missouri

I'm looking for more info on Jane Goforth born abt 1857 in possibly Illinois but most likely Stoddard, MO and resided later on in Southeast Missouri area, probably Stoddard Co. as well. My great grandfather is John E. Powell and for a long time I didn't know who is wife was but my grandmother said her last name was Goforth but couldn't remember her first name. I also know for a fact that John had 2 sons, John & William, and thru searching for info on them I found a census record that showed them to reside with an Alford Goforth. So obviously they had to be related and thru a search on Alford I found that he had several sisters, one being Jane. I then located a marriage certificate for John E Powell and Jane Goforth so that pretty much confirmed my thinking that Jane Goforth is in fact my great grandmother. In addition to the marriage certificate, other than her sister Martha, the other sister's couldn't possibly be a match because their ages left them far too young to be married and having children.

The problem I have now is that thru further searches on Jane I'm finding a lot of hits in the ancestry trees showing Jane to be the sister of Alford but these trees show that Jane died very young (even before her and John e Powell's sons were born so obviously there's some descrepancy there)in 1879 making her only about 22 or the trees show that John E Powell was married to Alford's other sister, Martha, which I don't think can be correct either because I've found no marriage records for Martha. As as already mentioned, I have a marriage certificate for Jane and John. Not to say that he couldn't have married Jane's sister later on but I've found no evidence that occurred. The third theory I've come across is that Martha's middle name is Jane so there's not two seperate people but I don't think that is right either because many of the census records show in fact a Jane and a Martha with two seperate birth dates that are several years apart.

I think my marriage record is a pretty strong indicator that info in some of the other trees may be wrong but until I can find a death record for Jane or a marriage certificate for Martha or some other solid information, it's very hard to narrow down and try to sort out the mystery. I think that Jane was in fact married to John and had 2 sons, John and William, and I think that she had a sister Martha but I don't think Jane died in 1879 as many of the trees state. Any info you have to share would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
