Looking for William V. Goldie; captain US army WWII, possible chaplain in Weisbadan/Frankfurt attached to 526th Armored Infantry Battalion. Two sons - "Dickie" and "Jimmie". Lived in Malaybalay, Phillipine Islands in 1948. want to return family photos to them.

Hi,
My dad was a John Goldie from Larkhall. He emigrated to Canada many years ago. He came from a large catholic family. His parents were Charles Goldie and Catherine O'Neil. Are you a relation?

Bernard and Ann's daughter Elizabeth married secondly to William Thomson, whose daughter Jessie married John Flynn. Jessie and John's son Theodore was the father of actor Errol Flynn. I do intend doing a revised version in a couple of years as I would like to add more details on connected families such as yours. I am happy to answer any questions you might have, and I do have a copy of the trial precognition if you would like it as I have no more use for it now. Hugh Goldie/Sarah Marshall-Scotland

Hugh is my 3rd Great Grandfather and who married Sarah Marshall abt 1844. From this union was born John Goldie b. 1846 in Dalry, Aye, Scotland and who married Agnes Dick (b. 1848) 23 Feb 1868 in Scotland and which is the basis of my line through Agnes Thomson Goldie b.14 Jun 1868 and her husband Samuel Black Clark (b. 12 Apr 1868) whom she married on 7 Jun 1889. Any information pertaining to Hugh's siblings and/or ancestors/descendants will be appreciated

Hello Mike,

Thank you for the information but the Ann GOLDIE I am seeking was living in Glasgow in or around 1827 and definitely NOT 1728. I would like to think she was descended from such a fine family as yours sounds but I fear she is not. She was living in abject poverty in 1827 and was caught up in crime as a result. I am of the opinion that she may have been the daughter of one Ann MUIR and John GOLDIE but am yet to confirm this information. I think "GOLDIES" were thick on the ground around then in Glasgow so I think, given my Ann's ultimate fate, it is unlikely that she was related to your ancestors. Thank you anyway for the reply.

Ann Goldie of Ayrshire married Adam Lees 1728 and had daughters & at least one son John Lees born 1738, who was a medic in Battle of Warburg in the 7 Years war in Germany, and from his contacts there with the director of medical hospitals Robert Cathcart married his eldest daughter Mary Cathcart and had 6+ children from 1776 on. John Lees' diary (Trinity College document 9875) is in my possession and in it he describes Ann Goldie Lees passing in September 1785 in Ayr. Sir John & Lady Mary's youngest son Thomas Hastings Orde Lees daughter Charlotte married Rev Dr. Geo. Sydney Smith of Glasgow 1838 and bore Dr. Thomas Orde Lees-Smith,1841, whose youngest Walter Boyle Smith born 1883 was my father Roy's (born 1924-1999) was my father.

My Understanding is some of the Goldie family did come to the united states, I know some settled in Pa. and some in dearborn, Mi.
I do not know anything about any in W. Virginia.
My husband was born in Scotland, his grandmother Brodie, had the maiden name of Goldie... she stayed in Scotland.

My family is from the USA all the family I know of is from west virginia a family of coal miners but I'm not able to trace my tree back to the old country do any of your family members go to the US???

My Husbands Grandmother was a Goldie, daughter of John Goldie, and Great Grandaughter of Farigal Goldie, They changed their name from McGoldrich when they left Donegal Ireland to live in Scotland.

Ann GOLDIE of Renfrewshire circa 1781

I am searching for any descendants or information about Ann GOLDIE who definitely lived in Renfrewshire (near Glasgow) in and around 1827. She had four girls (Mary Ann, Isabella, Margaret and Elizabeth) and PERHAPS a boy (Henry?). I am not sure about the boy but the girls are definite. She was living with a man named Bernard Hughes and claimed to be his wife but there is no official record I can find of a marriage and she uses both her names from time to time so it may have not been a "legal" marriage. Does this girl familiar to anyone? She was born around 1781 and Bernard around 1775. He claimed to have come from Armagh.

Hello Bill, it sure has been a long time since we have written each other... I was coresponding with a young Goldie who was on a submarine or ship...and he mentioned you and he was going to visit Pennsylvania last year of a year or two before that...
Jacks cousins came from scotland for a visit , Joe and Betty Reynolds came after her brother Joe Reynolds told them what a fine time he had..ha.
anyway we are off to scotland in a week or so.. for three weeks...

HI everybody. My problems continue with this situation. As I stated a while ago my GG grandfather was Hugh Goldie bn abt 1872 in Kilmarnock and his parents were listed as Hugh and Annie Goldie(nee Goldie) Despite all my efforts I have been unable to trace any info of a marriage with this pair.

According to my mother, who is the daughter of Margaret Goldie who was the daughter of Hugh(my gg grandfather and Grace McGinn) and also several other family members my gg grandfathers parents left him shortly after he was born and he was brought up by relatives John and Agnes Goldie(nee McGinn) This puts his DoB in 1872 Approx.

His parents went to the states. THIS IS A FACT AS THERE ARE STILL RELATIVES ALIVE WHO MET THEM and have also lived in the States near to where they resided.....I believe it was OHIO.

Hugh however was a Pro Footballer and my enquiries in this direction with CELTIC F.C. shows that when he played for them he gave his D.o.B. as 10 Feb 1874 in Dalry, Ayrshire.

Further enq. show that his mother was a Janet Goldie.....father not known.

In 1881 I have found what appears to be them in the Census of that tme still in Dalry with his mother being a mill worker.She was aged approx 25 yrs.

From this point onward I am completely stuck. I can find no positive ID for Janets parents......No trace of a wedding or of a death.Nor can I find her in any immigration records.

HELP!!!!!!

I have recently discovered a line of Goldies who appear to have originated in Riccarton.

Jean Goldie married Robert Kennedy in Glasgow in 1929 [OPR] They had at least 2 children Thomas Goldie Kennedy born Glasgow 1831 and George Goldie Kennedy born about 1832. She died before 1841 as by then Robert was remarried to Easter [or Esther] Stevenson.
Jean's brother Robert and sister Margaret lived longer and so from death certificates I have found that their parents were George Goldie, Powerloom Tenter and Jane Pollock.
Robert was born in Riccarton and Margaret in Deanston by Doune.
From the IGI George Goldie & Jane Pollock married: 22 APR 1803, Riccarton, Ayr and had children:
1. Jean Goldie, Born probably ABT 1805 Riccarton? married Robert Kenendy in 1829, Died between 1832 and 1841
2. Robert Goldie, Clerk & Cashier Born ABT 1807 Riccarton, married Marjorie Bruce (died bef 1851), 1 child Mary Ann born 1837 (died bef 1841) Died 1889 Glasgow
3. Margaret Goldie, Powerloom Worker Born 23 DEC 1809 Doune, never married, Died 1904 Deanston
4. Agnes Goldie, Born 9 MAY 1813 Kilmadock
5. George Goldie, Born 22 MAR 1815 Kilmadock, probably died before 1821
6. Janet Goldie, Born 16 SEP 1817 Kilmadock
7. May Goldie, Born 4 MAR 1820 Kilmadock
8. George Goldie, Born 10 DEC 1821 Kilmadock married Ann Fulton not found 1851 possibly emigrated?

Jane Pollock had her father Alan Pollock, Wool Weaver living with her in Doune in 1841. Neither found 1851, presumed died before 1851. Presume George Goldie senior died before 1841.

Can anyone help me link this family with any of the Kilmarnock/Riccarton Goldie or Pollock families?

My wife's granparents were Sarah and James Goldie who lived in Dalkieth, Scotland 1880-. He died in a coal mine accident in 1925. She emigrated to USA with children in 1930. I have just created our (public) family tree on Ancestry.com Contact me if I can be of any assistance.

I'm just waiting for clarification of some of the info from my mother who still holds the actual birth certificate and she is going to send me a copy which I will scan and send off. Supposedly it's plenty clear enough to be able to read (it was actually issued to my grandmother in the 1970's).

I am researching my family tree in Glasgow and north Lanarkshire in the early 1800s. Hugh Goldie had three (perhaps four) children - William, James and Agnes as below. Actually I think ther is a fourth - John b. about 1811.

Hello Alan,

Have you created a family tree at all? My family has done so, and have been creating it very extensively within the past 2 years. All of our files were originially physical, but we have been digitizing all of them.

We also have found James and Agnes, as well as William. There have been many Johns in our family tree. Please let me know more details. Im very interested.

My Goldies were living, mostly on the west coast of Cumberland - Flimby, Parton, Whitehaven, then moved inwards to Cleator, Frizington.

Names are Joseph, William, Henry, James, John

I have lots of info about this family so would be pleased to see your names and locations to see if we have a connection!

Assuming that Thomas was born in Glasgow,the FamilySearch website reveals two possible entries for his birth.These are:

-Thomas Goldie born 16 July 1865,Bridgeton,Glasgow,to Thomas Goldie and Flora Sinclair.

-Thomas Goldie born 23 February 1867,Hutchesontown,Glasgow,to Thomas Goldie and Martha Hood.

If you are still struggling,it might be worth contacting the Regimental Museum of the Cameron Highlanders,which is located in Inverness.The Black Watch Museum in Perth might not be of much use,unless he served with the Black Watch as well.

In the 1841 census, this couple with their younger children (first child born 1807, last child born 1824) are in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. Looking on the IGI, they originally came from Coltburn or Glenbuck in Muikirk, Ayrshire.

I'm particularly interested in their son, James, born 1814, who was a shoemaker in the 1841 census. If anyone has any information on this family, it would be much appreciated!
