Megan,
I was helping a friend, Diane, when I wrote that post in 2006. At the time we just didn't have enough information on her and it seemed pretty difficult to recognize her in a census or other online place when we had nothing to connect her with. I will check with my friend and see if she is still interested in looking for her family. Thanks for the reply.

Kathleen

My great grandmother, a Szczepkowski, married a Golembiewski. Her brother married a Czerwinski who's mother's maiden name was Kalinowski. Kalinowski and Golembiewski fit, but my family came from Borowe in Powiat Mlawa, which is northwest of Warsaw. The Golembiewski name comes from the town of Golobie, which is also in this county.

Hi Fran,

I suspect that your Josef (father of Anthony) was the same Josef who was the son of Stanley and Maryanna nee Roman. Josef's marriage record would help confirm.

Josef, brother of Anastasia and Pelagia, emigrated before 1905, possibly in 1904. This same Josef is probably the father of Anthony (emigrated 1910) and Stanley (also seen as Mike, emigrated 1911), and the husband of Rosa (emigrated 1911). Neither Anthony, Rosa or Stanley mentioned a father/husband, so if a match, there is the possibility Josef died between 1907-1910.

Cheryl

My great grandfather was Vincent Golombovski. These names appear to change when coming to the U.S. You can see the tree here by searching this name. The firs e in your name is pronounced "em".

Helen:
...Sorry it took me so long to reply. I am doing this on my mother in law's behalf, and when you wrote that Briget married Stanley Orloski, well, that just created a commotion. Since, we have been able to figure things out. She called her Aunt Irene, and this is the information I have received. The Golembieski children are: Julia, Bridget, Sophi,Josephine, Celia, Stella, Edward and Joseph.

Julia m. Heltowski
Bridget m. Stanley Orloski
Josephine m. Antony Orloski
c. Frank, Daniel, Stella, John, Susan
Josephine died
Sophie m. Lalak
Stella never married

Sophie is my husband's great grandmother.
Florence Orloski is his grandmother. Florence m. Stephen Slavinski in 1932. They had a child, Marcia (hubby's mom).

I noticed tht some of the names you have are different than the ones that I received. Interesting. Do you know if Stanley Golembieski arrived in the US via Ellis Island? or Anna? Where in Poland did they come from?
Thank you so much for your help, Helen.
Peggi

I just found out today that there is a Stanley Golembiewski on my mother's side of the family; he was the brother of my mom's Grandmother, Anna Golembiewski. The only information I have thus far is: some of the siblings were Anna, Bernice, John and Stanley. John lived in Cincinnati, possibly all his life, and raised a large family there. When Anna came over from Poland, she lived with him for a while (he paid her passage over) before she moved to Chicago in search of a better-paying job. Stanley and his spouse adopted a son, Arthur, with whom I am still in contact. John had at least 3 children, two of whom were nuns and one of whom was a priest (Father Paul). That's it. Any of this sound familiar?

I think if I am not mistaken that I have info on the Sypulski line as well... that was mixed in with the Golembiewski.

Do you have anything on the Sypulski line to go on. Thought it was weird that you responded to Golembiewski with Sypulski.. haven't made the connection between the two yet.

Hope there might be a connection.

Dawn

P.S. I tried the email address that you left here and it goy bounced back to me...feel free to email me privately.

GOLEMBIEWSKI: Czestochowa (Poland) to Cincinnati to Chicago

Looking for anyone that can identify with the following family tale: Anna Golembiewski came from Czestochowa (sp?) around 1898 to stay with her brother John (who had paid her passage to the US) in Cincinnati. She worked for about a year to pay him back. Then she moved on to Chicago and there married Joseph Peter Krauss. John, meanwhile, had at least four children: Joseph, Henry and two daughters who became nuns. I know that John came over before Anna, so it must have been before 1898. I believe that John and Anna had another sister, Bernice. Please post reply if any of this sounds familiar.

My mother's maternal grandmother was an Anna Golembiewski, though I'm sure this is not the same person. She came over to the US from Chestochowa (sp?), Poland, approximately 1898 when she was about 13 yrs. old. She lived with her brother, John, in Cincinnati, Ohio, until she either paid him off (for her transport to the US) or went to Chicago to finish paying him off with a higher salary. She married Joseph Peter Krauss in Chicago in 1902. Her brother, John, remained in Cincinnati (we think) with his family, which included a son named Joseph, a son named Henry, and two daughters who became nuns.

I am also researching in Baltimore Agniezka (Agnes) Koteras(Kotaras in the St. Stanislaus Church records married to Jozef (Joseph) Golabowski (Golembowski/Golembiewski) in Jan of 1881. Agnes father was Peter Kotaras, record did not show mother. They had Weronika, Marrianna, Peter Paul, Andrew Lawrence, Walter Milton, George Michael, and William Frank. We descend through George Michael. I am interested in the Koteras and Golembiewski/Golabowski/Golaboski/Golebiewski lines. I noticed in my research that the spelling of these names moves around a lot depending on who was doing the writing ie census takers, priest, etc. Perhaps we might have some relations in common. Please let me know.

Cammie

My great-grandmother's maiden name was Golembiewski. I believe her first name was Anna. She married Alexander Schultz (originally some Polish name changed to look German) in the 1880s - not sure if they married in Europe or in the USA. Lived and died in Chicago, probably St. Adalbert's Parish. They had children Felix, Mary (my grandmother- born 1890) and (I think) John. There may have been other sons, but no other daughters. Either Felix or John later had a son, Edward Schultz, who was several times married.
My grandmother, Mary Schultz, married Walter Witucki in 1909.

I am looking for info on Mary Anna Krupa?, in her obituary that I just got today, a Victoria Golembeski from Newark, NJ is listed as a sister. Victoria and Mary Anna were from Poland, family legend says Mary Anna came over in the early 1900's with a child to join her husband John Soyka in PA. Could this Victoria be a match with your Victoria?
Amy
