First name Beecher

The Social Security Death Index

http://ssdi.rootsweb.com

lists Beecher GOFF, born Nov. 3, 1922, died Oct. 1986, last known address in Ortonville, MI, SSN 411-24-4041, card issued in TN, no Post-em.(There is also a Beecher GOFF Jr., born 1950 Mar 8.)

If you want to purchase a copy of the SS-5 form he filled out when applying for his Social Security card, go to the website, find his entry, then click on "SS-5 Letter" on the right-hand side. It may take months to arrive after you submit the letter and fee.

The website allows you to add a free annotation to his entry, which can be a plea for contact, containing your permanent address. It may take years before anyone opens and reads your annotation. To do it, click on "Add Post-em."

Another way to learn more about this man is to guess at the place of death, then apply for his death certificate. Look to see who was the "informant." Contact the cemetery and funeral director (who should be named on the certificate) and ask for the names of living relatives, or at least which newspaper would have been used for a paid death notice or obituary.

Reg Niles (not a relative)
RegNMINiles#cs.com
(change # to @)

Ida and Rose(lette) Golf - 1800's - NY, IN, OK, KS

I have a Nellie Stevens who married Samual Amos Ridge - 1 of 13 Ridge children. Nellie's mother was Ida Golf. Ida married Lewis Perry Stevens. Ida had 12 children. Nellie was the youngest and was born in 1898. So that has to put Ida's birth sometime before 1873.

Nellie reported that she was 1/4 native american. Her features and coloring seemed to confirm that. She further reported that it had been her grandmother (unknown if on father's or mother's side) who had lived with a native american tribe ( tribe unknown for sure. ) Nellie admonished her children who knew of this to never tell anyone they were part Native American.

Nellie was married in Oaklahoma, though it is unknown how she came to Oaklahoma. Her husband recieved a land grant during the Oaklahoma land rush. We don't know if Ida was ever in Oaklahoma or not.

Nellie believed she had married a cousin of some kind. We believe this is because her husband's mother's name had been Roselettte Golf or Rose Lette Golf prior to marrying Franklin Ridge. There could be more to the connection between Ida and Rose than we know.

Rose was believed to have been born in NY in August of 1862. Franklin was believed to have been born in Indiana in October of 1852. We don't know how Rose and Franklin hooked up or where they were married. They had 13 children - - - I have birth dates for all but 5. We show the oldest child born in August of 1886 and the youngest in 1902, but again - - - we are missing some dates. We have one of the children share-cropping in Kingman Co. Kansas prior to moving to Oaklahoma. We don't know whether he was there on his own or the family had moved there. There is a story that this son had made the aquantance of William Bonan (Billy-the-kid), and we find that they were in the same part of Kansas at the same time, so it's possible.

Perhaps this will ring some bells for someone. Golf has been a really hard name to track down.
