I am looking for information on my ancestors. Our spelling is Galliher. It has been told that 3 brothers migrated here from Ireland and possibly settled in 3 different areas.. My GG Caleb was born in Virginia around 1813 and settled in Illinois. If this sounds familiar to anyone I would appreciate any info you may have.
S. Galliher-Slane

I am trying to verify whether William Culbertson Gollaher, 1807-1867, was the 1st Mayor of Tooele City (in Utah). Documentation that would clearly verify this would be appreciated.

In browsing, just came across your post of several years ago. I, too, am related to Austin Gollaher. His daughter, Elizabeth, marrried George Redmon. My mother was a Redmon. Austin Gollaher would be among my grandparents. I grew-up in Louisville, retired from local government, but moved to Tucson five years ago. Have been to Knob Creek several times in recent trips back to Louisville. Would be interested in whatever information or sources you have found. Thanks, Jim Smith. JimS40220@aol.com

Hi, I have Daniel Crady in 1870 census with Felix age 23, Sarah 20, DAniel age 2 and Marinda 2. They are in the larue county census. I can't swear this is the one that married Hannah but maybe. Also I would be related through Nancy Bell Gollaher daughter of John Thomas and Mary Jane Barnett. I have a picture that says Uncle George Gollaher. I don't know if this would be Tom and Marys son or Toms brother. If you would like to swap info email me at greybird@alltel.net. I also have a picture of nancy bell.

William C. Gollaher is my gr+ grandfather. He was born in Georgia, but travelled with his family to vic. Livingston, Kentucky about 1811. His father, James, died in 1812, and his mother (Fanny Culbertson Gollaher) married a Geo. Dykes and the family moved up into Illinois.

Most of the Gollaher family in Illinois joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints about 1834-6, sold their farms and moved to Missouri, where both William and his older brother James (Gallaher /Galliher) aquired land near Far West. Mobs chased the Mormons out of MIssouri back into Illinois, and Wm. settled south of Nauvoo in Burton.

He went west along the Mormon Trail, arriving in SLC in the Fall of 1949. Brigham Young sent them to settle Tooele.

I have much more history if you wish. What do you want to know?

Feel free to write or call me (208-336-9463)

There is a Gollaher e-mail list at Rootsweb (GOLLAHER-L) and a Monroe Gollaher family group at Yahoo Groups you may wish to join. Neither are very active.

Michael Monroe Gollaher
s, Monroe Calvin Gollaher
s. Monroe Lenard Gollaher
s. John David Gollaher
s.
Gallagher (=Gollaher?) in Toronto, Ontario

Hi,

I am tracing GALLAGHER and THOMPSON ancestors who were living in Toronto.

Abraham Francis Joseph GALLAGHER, b. 11/04/1895 Toronto, Ontario, Canada, d. 04/27/1972 Toronto, Ontario, Canada., m. Anna Margaret THOMPSON abt 1911 Toronto. The couple is buried in Thornhill cemetery in Toronto.

Abraham Francis had several siblings : Mary, Ann, Kate (older sister), Norman (younger brother), Tom. Most of them were dead in the 1920s.

Abraham Francis Joseph hated his first name "Abraham" and he was always called Francis or Frank. He grew up on Duchess Street, Toronto. His dad owned most of the house in the street. He was an altar boy at Saint Michael cathedral on Bond Street. His parents were buried in a cemetery (possibly called St Michael cemetary), that does not exist any more. There was a tombstone there full of names on all 4 sides of it. Abraham Francis was a light weight boxing champion of Canada around 1916 and he coached the Canadian boxing team for the Olympics in Amsterdam in 1928. He was boxing under the name "Red Gallagher".

His wife, Anna Margaret THOMPSON was born 09/15/1898 Toronto and died 04/28/1981 in Toronto. Family history says she married VERY early, possibly 1911. She had several siblings : Mabel (was living in British Columbia and had a daughter), Ivy, Vivien (had one son and 4 daughters), Bill (had a daughter).

I am trying to find that couple's ancestry and I have not got any further than gathering family history. Any information, advice, lead, connection would be welcome.
Thanks,
Yveline

Re: William Culbertson GOLLAHER

Michael,

My name is Lucy Barron. My ancestor Thomas G. [Golleher?] DYKES is the son of Daniel DYKES and Elizabeth GOLLIHAR (you pick a spelling). They married in March 1810. They are shown on the same page in 1810 Livingston Co., KY census with Thomas Jr. & Sr., Richard, Joseph, and James GOLLEHER. I assume that Thomas Sr. is the father of all these men, since he's shown as the oldest. Daniel DYKES lived for some time in Illinois and Tennessee before moving permanently to Franklin Co., AL by about 1820. He shows up on the 1850 census with his wife Elizabeth, who states that she was born in 1783 in Illinois [hard to believe].
A DYKES descendant who was quite elderly when I corresponded with her neice in the 1980s stated that [she was confused as to which DYKES grandmother it was] was a GOLLIHAR and that she "studied music at the conservatory in Strasbourg." I ignored this for many years, but finally decided that the GOLLIHAR part was too strange to be remembered wrong. Finally found that Daniel's father Stephen DYKES went to Kentucky and that's where I found the marriage.
Because of the age discrepancies, I tend to discount the Charles GOLLIHER/Susanna MUCKLEWEE lineage. I do believe Thomas GOLLIHER Sr. is the father of those living in Livingston Co., KY in 1810, since he seems to be old enough to have a child in 1783. Also think he may be father or grandfather to: Hugh B. or R. GOLLIHER (gave bond at Daniel's and Elizabeth's marriage) who married Betsy EDWARDS.
You have done a lot on this name and I'd like to hear from you.

Gollaher and his daughter (my wife's grandmother) Emma Eliza Gollaher. We live in Columbia, Missouri where George B. lived and died after the cw. Most of the information we have came from research here at the state historial society and from Beatrice Crady in Hodgenville, Ky.
Hello Michael,

No, Catherine did not write the letters on behalf of Gollaher.
Catherine's name before marriage was Gollaher.

In a letter copied from the Irish records written to her by her husband Thomas Gunning in Australia and used by an inspector with reference to the "Royal Free Pardon" Thomas states "I have often wished to meet with some people from your part of Ireland that came out but never had the luck to see any"

I assume you are tracing the family name. Do you have any information on the name in Ireland?

I dont know if the letters would help, they are photocopies and part are difficult to read. He did have 11 children born from 1840 to 1879, Thomas, John, Samuel, Joel, Lafayette, Clinton, Amanda, Wesley, Rena, Salina, and Henry. Do any of these people fit?

Thank you for that information. It was very helpful. Henry Gollaher is my GGGrandfather. I come from Lafayette's line. He was b. Jan 24, 1856 d. April 5, 1888. His mother was the second wife Eliza Jane Dunlap, they married July 3, 1853. I can't find much info on her yet. Lafayette is buried in Cemetery Southwest in Fayetteville, Ark. Amanda Gollaher Brinson (sister) is buried in Baptist Ford Cemetery Greenland, Ark. I never knew Henry was married twice and thought Samuel & Joel were his brothers. I found Samuel & John in the Union Army roster in Illinois. I would love to find out more about Henry's family if you care to share - send e-mail. Thanks.
