Looking for the family group of Frederick Augusta Goll[i/a]day in 1850

I am looking for the family group of Frederick Augusta Golliday (b. 1815,VA; d. 1884, Grayson Co., KY) in an 1850 Census. According to Golladay researchers, they moved from Virginia to Hardin/Grayson Co., KY around 1850. I have looked thoroughly through the Grayson Co., KY Census on Ancestry.com; also Hardin Co. KY. I have looked at Ohio, Virginia and Kentucky, in general, using every trick I know to ferret them out. I am thinking they either somehow missed getting recorded because they were on the move, they were recorded incorrectly, or the transcription to Ancestry.com is incorrect.

Should look something like this:

Frederick,35
Mary E., 35
Thomas Benton, 13
John Pearson, 12
Martha Charlotte, 10
Sarah Ellen, 7
Samuella, 5
Granville, 4
All born Virginia
Possibly:
Eugenia, b. Apr. 22, 1850, KY

I have found Frederick in these Censuses:
1860 Grayson (Fredric Gollady)
1870 Grayson (Fredrik Golladway)
1880 Grayson (Fredrick Golladaey)

I am a descendant of Frederick through his son, Thomas Benton > John Anderson > Roy Thomas

Any help in locating them in 1850 would be appreciated.

Jane Gibbs Wheaton

Re: Golliday, W.C. b: abt 1865

Vinton Gillespie, b.November 22, 1847, Fort Wayne, Indiana, married the widow Elizabeth Golliday on April 15, 1870 in Danville, Vermilion County, Illinois. Three months later on July 2nd and July 16,1870, Vinton Gillespie's household is enumerated twice in the Federal Census: (Gallaspy p.134, and Gillaspie, p102b).
The five children in Vinton's household are Elisabeth Golliday's children from her 1st marriage-but they are listed with the surname of Gillespie. They are:
1) Rebecca Golliday, 1853, 2)Louisa Golliday, 1855, 3)Mary Golliday, 1858, and 4) William Golliday, aka Chedester, (1863), and 5) Ida Golliday(1865).

Believe the W. C. Golliday in your affidavit is the son William Chedester Golliday. Mother Elizabeth Golliday, died sometime before 1890. Vinton secondly married September 20, 1890, Mary Alice (mn Ashley)Mahoney, the widow of John M. Mahoney.

Vinton's father Harman Gillespie is living in Watson Township, Effingham County, Illinois with his second wife Margaret Field whom he married in 1854. Vinton Gillespie is a son from the first marriage of Harman Gillespie and Martha Adams, Wood County, West Virginia. The Gillespie family was in West Virginia from about 1800 to the late 1820s. In 1829 Harman was in Upper Sandusky, Wyandot, Ohio and by the mid 1840s Fort Wayne, Indiana. Harman and family members arrived in Illinois in 1855.

Joseph Golladay and Mary Huslander

I am descended from Joseph Golladay and Mary Huslander of Powell's Fort Valley, Shenandoah County, Virginia and am attempting to locate the grave locations of the two. Also, am attempting to document/locate an actual marriage register of the two in New York State for 1784. Joseph, by the way, is a son of Jacob Golladay, Sr. of Powell's Fort Valley. Some sources say that Jacob, Sr. was married to an Elina or Elinor, then remaried to Mary Clem around 1774 in Powell's Fort. If so, Elinor would be Joseph's Mother. It is questionable that Jacob Golladay, Sr. lived in Powell's Fort or Virginia prior to 1775 as there are no records in the area to document such. He first appears in a county census in 1775. Everything is pointing to the Golladay's as having moved there around that time from that part of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, now Franklin County. Anyone with additional information, please reply. Thanks, Robert.

I am looking through my GGG Grandfather's Civil War pension record and found an affidavit signed by W.C. GOLLIDAY. The document is dated 14 March 1892. W.C. GOLLIDAY is living in Danville, Vermilion CO., IL at the time his record was recorded. It lists him as 27 years old. The following is his statement:

I have known Geo. W. LOPP for the last year and a half and been with him every day for the last three months as he boards at the same place I do. I walked out with him and he can't walk over one block at a time without stopping to rest , he complains of his right ankle hurting him and under these circumstances I am sastified that his right ankle will disable him at least two thirds from doing manual labor. He has singed the document W.C. Golliday

My great great great great grandparents were
Jacob Baker, Sr. and Christine Golliday.
I do not have marriage date, but their son,
Jacob, Jr., was born 1787, lived west of
Sweet Springs, WV, supposedly first in
Louisa Co., VA. (Sweet Springs is in Monroe
Co., WV) Courthouse records re the Bakers
in Boutetourt Co., VA, which covered all of
middle part of WV between 1774-1778 when
Greenbrier Co. was formed, then Monroe was
formed in 1799. Christine was supposedly
German and never learned to speak English.
Jacob was son of Philip Becker/Baker, and
I am trying to learn parents of Christine.
Any assistance will be appreciated.
James M. Golliday

I am very sorry, I forgot to give you the following information. James M. Golliday was a member of the Confederate Army Co. G 33rd Virginia Infantry as you found. He is buried in Greenhill Cemetary Stephans City, Virginia.
In what I am able to decipher, the spelling of the name was changed by accident. Most of the changes I first noticed with military records. Most people spelled it as it sounds. I remeber that my great grandmother Pearl Ruth Golliday Ferguson spelled it with an "i" yet, another member of her family would spell it with an "a". Personally I would stay with the Golliday as the original spelling. In the book "Golladays in America", the mentions the different spellings also, but can give no other explanation why, other than accidental changes that stayed. I wish I could help you more with the spelling, it is sometimes confusing to me too.
Have you checked out the online sight for the Civil War Index Page. I got some information on a Jacob Golladay Jr., and a letter he wrote his brother David that was fairly interesting.
Thank you for your response.
Good luck.

In response to Flo Walter: I too am a descendant of the Gollidays. In my search, I found a James M. Golliday, born 8Aug1839, 3rd son of Cyress Golliday and Maryann Pearson of Mt. Jackson, Va. James married Annie Virginia Clevenger born 19Apr1845 on 1Jan1868 in Winchester, Va. Cyress was the 2nd son of Jacob. Jacob was born in 1785 in Pennsylvania and was the son of Joseph Golliday and Mary Hunslander. Joseph faught in the Army of the Revolution, and after marrying, settled in Northumberland Co. Pa. then moved to Shenandoah Co. near Mt. Jackson before 1810. Jacob married Margaret Funk in Mt. Jackson Va. My search has Joseph a son of Jacob Golliday (Gallete) from the ship the "Thistle", landing in Pennsylvania 19Sept1738. My information came from my Great great grandmother, as well as a book written by Ralph Golladay called "Golladays in America".

I agree with the spelling and have bee using the "i" - but will not fault my husband's 98 yr-old aunt for using the "a" in all the info she gave me. Where would I be without it? On James d/.c. it's an "i" and Granny's marriage cert. it's an "i". The spelling of James' parents' names on his death cert.:Cyras Golliday and Mary Jane Persons and no signature of person giving the info -- go figure!! and many thanks again!

I'm looking for Donald son of George and Goldie Golliday.
He's the brother of William and Betty. They lived in Fresno, CA around 1930 or 1940. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
