I'm not sure that it's the same family, although it might be. My branch of Gomans came to Fishkill, NY, from Rhode Island sometime in the mid-1700's. Most of Rhode Island's settlers had come down from Massachusetts, but I don't know whether that applies to Jesse Goman's unnamed father.
A couple of years ago I checked out eastern New York State for Gomans that were still in the area. A number of them were around Rensselaer or Washington Counties, northeast of Albany, and were identifiably cousins of mine whose ancestors had moved up from Fishkill (Putnam County) in the 1800's. The rest of them were farther south and were identifiably Jewish. It looks as if the name has quite a number of possible sources, since I've also recently heard of Gomans in the south of England whose descendants moved to Australia.
