DOD Identifies Army Casualties

The Department of Defense announced today the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

They died Nov. 5 in Jelewar, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their vehicle with an improvised explosive device. The soldiers were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Wash.

My laptop recently crashed and had the most up-to-date family tree on it but I think if you look at the family tree section under me you will get the same info. I have some of the family tree on this pc but it is not as current as the other one. I took a family history and genealogy class last semester so that inspired me to do some more digging. The Gooch line is also on my father's side. Mahalia Gooch married John Drew and had 10 or 11 children, one of which is my grandfather Richard Drew, Sr. They are of native and African American origin. Mahalia Gooch had 1 brother, Harvey Gooch, Jr and 6 sisters, Annie, Katie, Lucy, Sallie, Sadie and Hattie.

I have an Elizabeth Brown who married one of my grandfather's brothers, Will Drew, Sr.

One of my great grandmother's sisters, Annie Gooch, married a Dan Brown.

I do not have any info other than their names.

Abner’s parents were David H, Gooch b.1831 TN and Mary J. James b.1834 AL on 1860,1870,1880 census for Ouachita Co., AR and 1900 census for Columbia Co., AR

For David’s parents, this is speculation but is the only thing that makes since from the supporting evidence:
I think David’s father was Abner Gooch b.abt.1773 Orange Co. and in Caswell Co. 1800-1830 census with his first wife. He moved to TN shortly after 1830 where David was born to a second wife, then moved to Arkansas about 1840 where me married his third wife (Harriet Wakefield) in Union Co. on Mar. 14, 1841 and died some time before 1855. If this is correct, then this Abner’s parents were William Gooch, Jr.(1753/5 Hanover Co., VA – Jan.9,1832 Caswell Co.,NC) and Sarah Kerr (Oct. 12, 1755 Hanover Co., VA – 1830 Caswell Co., NC)

The author of the Gooch book is Dayna Jacobs and I don't have her current email at the moment, but I can find it for her. There are 2 John Gooches, their fathers were Benjamin and John Gooch who were twin brothers. John Gooch was a gunsmith and I believe his son John was also a gunsmith. I am descended from Benjamin. I will be happy to share info. Teresa

Joseph F. Gooch was born July 1845 in Virginia, place not verified but most likely in Ohio County, Virginia (became West Virginia later)
His father William is enumerated in the 1840 census there with his mother and a brother.

1850 Census shows William, Emeline (name almost always misspelled one way or another) with Joseph, George, and John.
1860 Census shows them listed as Goode, William has just died. Eveline is listed as Adaline along with Joseph, John, Alvira/Elvira and Wiley.
1870 Census shows them in Richland, Ohio County, VA. Eveline, John, Alvira/Elvira, Wiley, and Mary age 9, born just after previous census.
Mary died young.
1875 Kansas State Census: Joseph, John and Alvira/Elvira are in Palestine, Sumner County, Kansas.
1880 Census Joseph is married and living in Sumner County, Kansas.
Eveline is living with son John in Sumner County Kansas.
(also in 1885 Kansas State Census)
Alvira married S. J. Butts in 1876 and was dead by 1880.

My mom is the adopted daughter of Bill Marqua. I don't know who Sara Anthony is, but my mother possibly does. Unfortunately, she has never been brought up in this thread by my cousin Melissa. I don't know why. My mother is a wealth of information, and for all intents and purposes, Bill Marqua was the only father she knew. Her name is Judith Lines Marqua Hogue.

I actually received a lot of information from my uncle dating back to 1800. Most of the Goochs' that are on the list he gave me are from NC and a couple from Virginia. The only good advice i can give u 2 get started is start with your dad's father ,see if you can find out name,when,where,and place he was born.If you cant't find the date then on search put the # of years that his age can possible be . More than likely if you can find out your grandfathers name,where he was born and place of death ,there be someone on here that can tell you more.You can post your help again here. 1775 Jan 9 (DB6) Dennis Paschal to Billie Goslin Gooch both of Bute co…107 pds VA money….214 a in Bute co…at mouth of Beetree Branch…adj James Pashal and Samuel Paschal. Wit. John Twitty, Thomas Newman Philln. Hawkins. Proved by John Twitty.

Eleanor Graham daughter of my Francis Graham married a John Gooch in Louisa county VA. I believe John is the son of Rowland Gooch who d. 1794. Francis moved his family to SC, Eleanor and John stayed in VA.

Kershaw co., SC Deed Book E: 100 9 Mar 1805 John Gooch and wife Eleanor, daughter of Francis Graham, both of Louisa county, Virginia, power of attorney to son James Gooch.

Kershaw co., SC Deed Book E: 198 17 Feb 1806 James Gooch, through power of attorney from John and Eleanor Gooch, to Andrew Graham and James Trantham, $61, two tracts of land. Wit: Thomas Warren, William Nixon.

Billy Gosling Gooch is one of the appraisers of the estate of Francis Graham d.1799 in Kershaw co., SC.

It appears that Billy moved with the Twitty, Burford and Hammond families from NC to SC.

Johnson Gooch

Looking for a Johnson Gooch that had some type of relationship with a Thomas and Nancy Gooch of Wake County North Carolina. He signed their marriage bond November 7 1828. Thomas also later named a son after him.

Thomas is known to have a brother named Daniel, Duncan, sisters Catherine(Katie) and Bedie Gooch.

If anyone can help me I would appreicate it.
