Seeking information on the family of John Goodall, he married Mary UNKNOWN,cannot find any info,he then married Isabella Caroline Elder, who before her marriage to John Goodall married Thomas Hutchens, John Goodall & Mary had a daughter Elizabeth Goodall (Goodhall) born Berhampore, 1814.There are other children born to John & Mary. Also children born to John & Isabella, 2 children maybe more to Thomas Hutchens & Isabella Caroline Elder. My question is why do so many people have Elizabeth Goodall (Goodhall) born St. Helena.

I show them in the 1860 census in Union Twp, Marion Co., AR, pg 551, Lines 29-37.

In 1850 in Marion Co., AR, pg 334, lines 19-22.

I have just entered the Goodall research and have gotten back to George D. Goodall b VA ca 1819, died probably in TX bet 1870 - 1880, married to Harriett L. who was a widow on the 1880 Cooke Co TX census. My husband's line is through Laura S Blood Goodall who married Levi Donnell. Any help to tie this line in to ancestors would be appreciated. Linda Mitchell

I have a question about Elizabeth Goodall, an individual on several Ancestory.com family trees. The dates given on these trees include a death date of 1572. Some trees also indicate her marriage to William Cary that same year. My question involves the validity of that death date for Elizabeth: if it's accurate, then all of her children were born after she died...

I cannot give a documented answer to the question of which William Goodall was married to Margaret Magill, but I can give some background that may shed some light on who he might have been on the basis of 10 years of work and about 600 pages of research with the Gaggle of Goodalls research team.

He was NOT the William Goodall of TN, who married Lucy Davis.

The book "Screven Co., GEORGIA History, Pgs 160-161, THE GOODALL FAMILY" gives some history on the James Goodall family, not all of which is factual, but it does name the eldest son William and and William's half-brother is Pleasant. This William travels to Virginia at some point after the death of his father about 1765-68 to settle his father's affairs there. He apparently marries and has a child while he is there. We have found absolutely nothing that names this child or its sex, nor have we been able to find anything more on William and/or his family after he returns to Georgia, although there is quite a bit available on Pleasant and his family.

This William was likely too old to be the one who marries Margaret Magill and has two children, but it could have been a son of his, since the family names are used.

George Goodall was from the Madison County, VA Goodalls who came to VA about 1808 from New England.

Hello Matthew, I was just looking at the emails to Diana re. Alfred Inight.
My Grandmother was Daisy Inight, Alfred's sister. My father was Daisy's son.
I often drive past the house where my Dad's Uncle Alf used to live and I remeber him telling me that he was killed on Gresty Road coming home from work. Also the doctor that they called for at the time (Dr Gibson) did not come out straight away as he was a drinker and possibly drunk at the time, and as my Grandmother was so upset she told my Dad to never go and see that doctor. I can not wait to show my Dad the Picture of Alfred that you sent to Diana, he looks just like my Dad when he was younger. My Dad has not got 1 photo of him.

His sons were Robert Henry,George and anther unknown nname and daughter Sheila. There are several families of Goodalls on the 1891 census in Portsmouth and a lot in Fareham going back to Elisha Goodall born around the end of the 18th century (and Portchester). I am researching a HAROLD GOODALL, nicknamed 'Gus GOODALL'.

He was born ca. 1900 in England, married to ETHEL GOODALE ca. 1935.

He ended up in Quebec, Canada where he lived for the rest of his life.

John/Jack Goodall/Goodale does not sound familiar to me. My Grandfather, HERBERT ALFRED GOODALE (b. March 04, 1904 in Barnet, Hertfordshire, England), came to Canada from England around age 18 and ended up living in Quebec, Canada for most of his life.

On another note, in re-reading an earlier message that I had posted on this site regarding GOODALL/GOODALE Surnames, HAROLD GOODALL married my above-noted Grandfather's sister, ETHEL GOODALE. In error, I had posted his name as Harold GoodALE...he was actually a GoodALL...(what are the odds that a Goodall would marry a Goodale?!) Although I would love to get more info on Harold Goodall, it is the GOODALE line that I am most interested in.

Please let me know if you come across anything and I will do the same. Good luck with your search.

I know this is a longshot, so many years after your original post, but I am researching my grandfather's (Sidney edward goodall 1903-1986) ancestry. His recent family all lived in Edmonton, London, but he always claimed that his family originated in Scotland, near Stirling.
Do you have any info about Isabella's male siblings?

They were killed in some kind of accident. I have sent for the records on the minor children being put into the custody of Floyd St. John and hope that there may be some kind of hint there. If not, I will keep looking, but from what I understand, there was some kind of accident as they both died together.

George Washington Goodall of Arkansas

I have received a copy of the court record of "Washington" Goodall's minor children. George Washington Goodall and his wife Caroline (St. John) were killed somehow in Missouri. I was told this happened around 1858 but this is wrong as the court record was dated Monday, 15th of February 1857. The minor children, Pleasant, Margaret, and John were put into the custody of Floyd E. St. Johns. This happened in Greene County Missouri. Now I would just love to find out how they died, as it seems strange that they would both die at the same time??

I too am researching the surname Goodall/Goodale in Canada: Do you have any ancestors/relatives by the name of Jack (or could be John?) GOODALL/GOODALE who may have come over from Canada to England during WW2? I expect he would have been in his 20's during 1943 - so probably born around 1920 in Canada?

Well I don't want to dissapoint you but most of my family come form Upper & Lower Wield Nr Alrsford some did move to Froxfield & Droxford, also I have a couzen's on the Isle of Wight. But none in Portsmouth that I'm aware of ,that's not to say there is not a connection some where along the line.

Looked through one newspaper today 1857-58 at the State of MO Historical Society and there was nothing about them dying. I checked the "Mirror". There was nothing about their death or Floyd St. John becoming Guardian or anything about the administration of the estate. I will try again tomorrow AM before I have to go back to Seattle.
