Is your mother's name by any chance Patricia? If so, we're definitely related. My grandfather before he married my grandmother Susan Breiding was married once before and in that first marriage I know that they had a daughter named Patricia. I know that she visited my grandmother and grandfather for a couple of summers too. They were living in Connecticut at the time I believe.

If you'd like to talk further, my e-mail is sgoode01@gmail.com.

I hope we are related because we've been looking for Patricia for a long time.

My mother's father's name was James Silas Goode born the same year as your grandfather. I don't know much of the story but he was married to my grandmother and for some reason they divorced. My mother was about 4 at that time. She visited him and his new wife Susan for 2 weeks in the summer when she was about 10 or 11. I want to say they lived in RI or CT but not sure. I have often thought about who my mom's dad was but never pursued trying to find him so I really do not have alot of information. I am not sure where he was born or his parents names. I beleived he worked at Bethelem Steel in Baltimore MD. Please contact me if there could be any chance of this being the one and the same James Silas Goode.

I know this is an old post however, the connection you are seeking between the Rose and Goode families more than likely originate from Limestone or Lauderdale Counties in Alabama. Both family names connected through marriage a few times in the generations. If you are still trying to explore this, please contact me.

Ron Goode

I am not related. I grew up in Detroit with the Goode boys.
My older brother Jim was about the same age as Jim Goode. Age-wise I was between Jerry and Glenn. We all lived on Pierson Ave. in the Redford part of Detroit., bout a block apart. We all went to Christ the King Grade School. I went to U. of D. High School and they went to Catholic Central.

In 1955 I went away to college in Milwaukee and then into the service for three years and pretty much lost all contact with the Goodes.

I was talking to my brother Jim over the weekend and he asked if I knew what that happened to the Goodes. I do genealogy for my main hobby and thought I would check on the Internet to see what I could find. And lo and behold you responded.

The last I knew about any of the five brothers was as follows:

Jim: I ran into Jim in the 1970s. He lived about two blocks away in Canoga Park, Calif.

Don: He was working for General Motors as part of the crew that went around to schools with a bus or trailer or something from GM. That would have been in the 1960s

Dick: The only thing I knew about Dick was that he was a world-class/Olympic-caliber parachutist.

Jerry: Don't know what jhappened to him

Glenn: He became a coach for a couple of high schools in Detroit. I beleive I heard that he died relatively young.

My parents owned a cottage on Sand Point near Caseville in the Thumb. My Mother and us four kids would stay at the cottage all summer and my Dad would come up on weekends. Dad would look around the neighborhood and bring some kid or other up with him. Jerry and Glen came to the cottage on a number of occasions.

My Dad owned Grimes Cleaners on Gran River in Redford. My Aunt Lorraine owned the Redford bowling lanes.

What can you tell me about Dick and the others?

Bill Grimes
Round Rock, TX

Hi Carol - Well, first I don't think your John Goode is the brother of my gr grandfather Joseph. Joseph was born in Ireland in about 1816 or so. His parents were a John (a very popular name) and Bridget Kelly.
Now I did try to find any info on your John P and you may already have this but John P used Patrick on the birth records of sons John and James and on marriage and those records spelled name as Good.
John = Rox, Ma 1864 vol 169 pg 298
James = Rox, Ma 1866 vol 187 pg 321

Also did you have the info that John P and Elizabeth were divorced by 1880? Wonder if John P came back to Ma or where the son John went.
Well, my search for Thomas Goode/Good son of joseph goes on.
Lily

Do you know if your ggrandfather served in the Civil war? Roxbury,Ma..
Also that his father's name was Joseph and mother Bridget Murray.
I have put so many messages on this and other boards but somehow missed yours until now.
Ila: Do you know how Ron Goode documents the father of (as we call him in our family) "Thomas Goode the first"? We have found his marriage to Mary Reynells, and can follow him in NC, as I've described in an earlier note.

Is Ron Goode related to this line of Goodes?

Odessa Elliott

My Thomas Goode married Mary Reynells. I can trace him from Stokes Co., NC, by Will, to his son Thomas. This Thomas wrote a Will in 1824, stating that he was taking care of Thomas and William, the sons of his son Henry and Phoebe Blackburn Goode. The Will was filed for Probate in 1834. On the 1840 Census, Thomas is shown living in the Sauratown District and his profession is given as "basket weaver"; we have his marriage bond to Bettie Caudle in 1835. We have traced this couple through 1850, 1860, and 1870 Censuses. On the 1870 Census if my great-grandfather, Spencer Goode.
I would be glad to know how you know a Richard Goode was the father of "Thomas the husband of Mary R."?
Odessa Elliott

Hi Lily,
I guess you sent two replies and I only saw the second one after I had asked you all those questions.
I have a copy of John & Elizabeth's marriage record, his parents were John & Mary. He was born 1840 so your right they can't be brothers.
Thanks for the info, I know they were divorced and I don't think he went back to MA. He went to 2 or 3 VA hospitals after he left Colorado and his son John doesn't show up again either.
Good luck in your search.
Carol

Goode - London, England area

Thomas Goode married Maria Head on Dec 25, 1811 in Enfield, London. They both came to the U.S. with their son, Thomas, when they were age 70, in 1859. Hence, they were both born about 1788-1789. They had at least five children: John - bapt. 1813, Thomas - bapt. 1816, William - bapt. 1822 amd Mary Anne - bapt. 1824. John and Thomas emigrated to Chicago, IL, probably along with their parents. William went first to St. Louis, MO, but lived most of his life in Grundy Co, IL (Morris), where he died with his wife Mary Hamilton Goode. A fifth child of Thomas and Maria, a son, lived in or near Chicago, his name uncertain at present, but possibly Edward. I do not know if Mary Anne came to U.S. or stayed in England. They may have had other children? Any connection anyone?

Hello,

Odessa, I am Ron Goode

Yes, I do descend from the "Goode" line you are referring to in these communications. The Patriarch of our family is Richard Goode (1629-1719) of old Rappahannock County, Virginia. His son Richard (1670-1726) is the father of your Thomas the 1st (1724-1789) that married Mary Reynolds. Your Thomas 1st is the brother to Richard (1704-1743) from which my line descends.

If I can be of any help with your research for Thomas Goode, and those that came before him I would be very glad to share it. Although a long way from complete, I am currently writing a book on this family’s genealogy. I have a public tree on Ancestry.com with the name "Goode's of Old Rapphannock County, Virginia" that you may find helpful with sorting out these connections. I can be reached at the following email: thebuzzardsloft at the aol.com network.

Ron
I sent Ron Goode an e-mail on The Rappahannock Goode's trying to connect my Solomon Good/Goode to this family.

LDS records list an entry that Mary Reynold was married second time to Solomon Good, but as Ron pointed out Mary was thirty years older than my Solomon.

Wish I could help more, but connecting with Ron Goode may answer your questions.
Ila

My GGGGrandfather was Edward "Ned" Goode b.abt. 1781 in Mecklenburg, Va. ,son of Thomas Jefferson Goode b.1760
in Lunenburg, Va. I have my line back to Edward Goode I,
b. abt.1645 in England. I believe the book, "House of Goodes" has the best documentation that I have seen.
We may be able to help each other.
Donald Wayne Goode
Lincoln, Alabama
205 763-3301
email- dwgoode@centurytel.net
