I have a Tony Goodin , son of Edward Lanning Goodin and Emma Sheridan Goodin. They were from Van Buren County, Arkansas. They went to Pottawatomie County,Oklahoma , area around Shawnee and Garden Grove.A Tony Goodin is listed in divorce papers in Pottawatomie County 27 Jan 1942. Wife is Thelma J. Goodin. He had several siblings , can send names if you think this is the Tony your looking for.

Thats about right, the genealogist I spoke with said the same
thing. But altho there were several Benjamin Goodins, Goodwins etc. I have over the last few years came upon
a Tree Of Benjamin Goodin and Hannah Urquhart. Which seems
to have a lot of familiar names Hannah's Father was named Alexander. according to the history of Greene Co Tenn. Alex , Thomas, James Were brothers Thomas being Born in 1752 not
1762 as Alexander was

I dont know about the geneology of the Goodin's from Adair county Ky. But my mother was the daughter of Joseph and Amanda(Clayborne)Goodin. There are alot of them that still live there. I think my mother had eight or nine siblings. Most have passed on but there are still some there and some in Columbus IN. My Mothers names is Margaret Marie (Goodin)Miller. Yes Vivian I have heard from you before, unfortunately the Ida in my linage is not related to Ado, I wish she was. My Ida is not really an Ida, she was born in 1878 as Sarah Etta Goodin in Guernsey Co. Ohio. she married James Blainey and again in 1920 married John T Bloom, and she died in 1929, in Pittsburgh, PA. I have no idea why she used the given name Ida. may be her woman's perogitive. Her parents were Wm.I.Goodin and Mary M. Regarding Jane virtch Worth:

Cultures that traditionally used patronymic family names [think 'Johnson, Andersen, Isaacson'] the child's last name was derived from the father's first name. In Norway, each son of Anders was an "Andersen" and every daughter was an "Andersdatter". I believe the same would hold true among the Welsh, where every male child of David would be an "ap David" and every daughter, "virtch David".

If so then we must assume that Jane Virtchworth was really Jane virtch Worth. Her father's first name was "Worth" and his family name -- a patronymic -- would have been "ap [what ever his father's first name was]". To locate Jane and her father in Wales, about the only hope would be to find church records from Wales.

The source of Jane Virtchworth's name appears to be a private letter written more than 100 years ago which stated, "Benjamin Goodin came from Wales and settled at Baltimore, Md ca 1750. He was m in Va in 1762 to Jane Virtchworth. He d. aged 101 -- children 4 sons and 5 daus...." This information comes from "Descendants of James (Timothy) McClintock and Some Related Families..." by A. Louise (McClintock) Shelton, published in 1985. See footnote on page 19 for more details regarding the source of this letter.

A final thought--and a tedious longshot too, probably. We could search for settlers in Virginia (also Maryland) whose first name was "Worth" and last name possibly started with "ap" (tho not necessarily so).

I'm your cousin. Lenda Mae is my mother and Mae was my grandmother. We did get in touch with Ado's grandson. He doesn't know much about him and his father never said much. I'll have to try and remember where he lived. I believe it was outside of Tucson. I do know that Ida and Ado were born and lived in Dardanelle, AR. I'll have to see if I still have my research papers on it.

Goodins in Johnson Co., AR

I am looking for information on Guy H. Goodin b. abt 1872-1874 in IA. Married Clara Withrow about 1894 in Nevada, Vernon Co., MO. Son Carl C. Goodin was born in 1900 in Bates Co., MO but by the time, son, George H. Goodin was born abt. 1909 they were in AR. The family is found in the 1920 and 1930 Johnson County census records. Guy died 8 Dec 1948 in Johnson County. He was a coal miner. ANY information greatly appreciated as this is virtually all the information I have and I've been searching for this illusive bunch for years to no avail. Carl C. Goodin md. Maude L. Forbus, dau of John Morgan Forbus and Mary Emoline Pace. Family legend has it that Carl was either a Sheriff or in some form of law enforcement around the Johnson County area. The family eventually moved to Oklahoma.

I sent a separate reply to Henry Goodin and I'm sure that he and I are more than likely related.

I grew up in Olney, Young County, TX with a lot of Goodin Cousins and remember hearing that we had some relatives from Ohio but I don't know much more than that.

My great grandfather, James Elisha "Jim" Goodin, 1867-1957, reported that his father, John A. Goodin, d. 1881, was from Kentucky on most of the Federal Census records but on at least one occasion he reported Ohio.

Should I find a reliable Ohio connection I'll be sure to contact you.

I noticed your posts some time ago that you research Goodin and Barker, I too research those line with little info. I am trying to get info on a James Albert Goodin whose dau. Caroline, I believe had two children by a Watts Barker who may be George W. Barker they all resided in the Aiken, Co. SC and or Augusta, GA area from civil war to 1930's. Names that may have been associated with this family are Louisa Goodin mar. a Johnson, Caroline later mar. a Crawford, Caroline's son, John D.W. Goodin mar. Mollie Blackstone, Mozell Goodin mar William M. Goings, SC 1883 but I can't locate that record. John D.W. Goodin's dau. Effie mar a Sim P. Raborn. Mozell Lamb Williamson may have been associated with this family also. If any of these names have surfaced in your research please let me know. Thank you.

I just saw your note to my half brother, my guess is that your father is my half brother as well. I know Maurice married 3 times and had 2 children by his first wife (was your father's mother named Katie?) 2 children by his second wife (my group) and 4 children by his 3rd wife (Todd's group). I hope you will be able to respond, I would love to know more about my half brothers/sisters?.

Robert A Goodin in TN, TX or LA

I'm looking for any information on my grandfather Robert Adrian Goodin. He was born in Texas in 1923 and died in 1967. I believe his father's name was also Robert Adrian Goodin who married Mary Eliza Pearson in 1914, but I can not prove the connection.

Robert A. Goodin Sr. may have been born in Tennessee. He lived in Texas in 1920 and died in 1926.

Mary Eliza Pearson was born in Louisianna possibly around 1880.

There is a rumor that my grandfather was adopted, but not much is known about him. If anyone has any information on these people please email me at tkjvandenberg@msn.com.

If your interested I can send it to you. Our Native background came from Ado's "mother". My grandsons are interested in our Native American History so I started looking it up for them. This line of heritage, Ida & Ado mother is where the Native American Heritage comes from if there is any...still not sure. Who are your parents? Is Essie Jane Lenore your Grandmother?
