I've hit a brick wall trying to find the parentage of Asaph Goodrich. He is listed in the 1850 census as living in Momence, Will, Illinois. Living with him is his wife Emily and a possible brother, Bradly (b. abt 1828 in NY). In the 1860 census, he living in Ganeer, Kankakee, Illinois with his family. His wife appears to be widowed in the 1870 census.
Any information or advise would be greatly appreciated.

YES! I guessed that Luther was his father based on a family tree I had found on rootsweb that listed a son "James J." However, everyone in that family was born in Connecticut and James Jasper in Georgia. My grandmother knew that his family was from Connecticut though, and was surprised I'd had trouble tracking him. My email is my username here at yahoo. I don't want to get spambotted which is why I'm not typing it out formally.

I have records regarding James Jasper Goodrich. His father was Luther Goodrich and his mother was Eliza Ann Clark. Eliza Ann was from Augusta, Georgia. Luther was the son of Ichabod Goodrich of Rocky Hill, CT.

My lineage is from Luther's brother William Henry Goodrich and Eliza Ann's sister, Susan Caroline Clark.

Luther moved from GA to Boston. William stayed in Augusta, GA.

I have lots more about the family and would like to exchange information.

Rob Shirkey

OK. Your Mom was a Goodrich and you are tracing her Goodrich line backward. That's what I understand so far. And your Mom lived in an orphanage?

Tomorrow morning early, I am headed for FL for the Winter. I will be incommunicado a few days, then will contact you.

I find it easier to communicate off-board. When I post to any "board", I encourage responders to address my private e-mail address and I like to respond likewise. It is just easier, and I find many times that folks post to the boards and never go back to look for responses.

My E-mail is BLL5@cornell.edu . I am retired from Cornell University.

Bruce Lloyd

I did a little work on tis family for a high school classmate in Albany, Ariel Goodrich. Bertha Dale was his grandmother. I was trying to connect Ariel with my Goodrich lateral lines in Sharon, CT. Perhaps you are connected with Ariel.

At least 2 of my Lloyds married Goodriches in Sharon in late 1700's. RW soldier James lloyd married Lucy Goodrich there.

I'm not sure if you want to go back or forward on this line. I may have some info; at least I can give you what I gave to Ariel.

Bruce Lloyd, Dryden, NY

Mary Margaret Goodrich, Albany NY

I keep hitting a brick wall when I try to trace Mom's side of the family. She was born Dec of 1920, Mary Margaret Goodrich. I found her Mother and Father in the 1920 census (Bertha & Matthew) and all her brothers. In the 1930 census, there is no trace of Bertha or Matthew, and the children that I could find are scattered, some to relatives, some, like my mom, to orphanages in Albany NY. The trail stops there. Does anyone have ANY ideas on where I could go next for information?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting the Goodrich Family Association with your ancestor inquiry.

I have reviewed the recently indexed Goodrich Family of America Association files, and have located some information I believe pertains to your family search. Let me know if this is your family. As we are currently compiling the new Goodrich Family genealogy, we would appreciate any additional information you can add to your ancestor line.

We show Ranson Goodrich, born in Massachusetts, married Mary Jane Smith (Ranson with a n, not a m.)
They had George Henry Goodrich, b. May 1, 1849 in Wingham, Ontario, Canada; he died in Alpena, Michigan March 18, 1928; George married Mary Ann Kerr, born 26 Oct. 1855, Canada, she died May 24, 1937, Alpena, Michigan

George and Mary Ann Goodrich had a dau. Florence D. Goodrich, b. 3 Feb. 1892, m. 27 Apr. 1912 in Alpena, Mi St. Anne Church. Florence died March 6, 1968.

We show a couple of notes for George - he was a pioneer in Green Township, Michigan, and he reportedly had many siblings, including Cephes, Seth, Ida and William.

You can contact me directly here at the Goodrich Family Association Forum, www.GoodrichFamilyAssoc.org, at:
gfagenealogy@yahoo.com

Regards,
Delores

I am researching the family of Ransom Goodrich of Alpena, Michigan. Ransom and his family came to Alpena, Michigan circa 1884 from Wingham, Ontario. They can be found in the Canadian census of 1871, but the named was listed as GODERICH. The oldest son, George, was born in Colborne, Ontario in 1854. (George is my gr. granfather.) Ransom was born in Massachusetts 12 February 1822, but I can't locate his birth record. Ransom's parents were Marvin Goodrich and Lucy Shed. I may be missing a geneartion between Ransom and Marvin.
I cannot believe the Wilberdings of Steinfeld and Ruschendorf/Damme were not related. The towns of Holdorf, Steinfeld and Damme form a small triangle in that area. Your Wilberdings of Iowa have names my mother-in-law mentioned many times such as Johanning. There are several of us trying to put the two families together but as of yet no success. A Wilberding we visited in Damme said all Wilberdings originated in Steinfeld

What I was looking for and didn't state it very well is was there more than one Mary Pruett. A Mary Pruett married A. M. Watson but died before 1900 census. I think she might be buried in Lulu cemetery beside or near A. M. Watson.
He married Queen Victoria Pruett at some point and she died shortly after that.
He was accused of killing her. That was an investigation and it was determined she died of a disease.
He married a third time to Nelly Matthews and died in 1920. Even though she remarried after his death she is buried with him in Lulu.

Apparently she was born out of wedlock we don't know who her father was. Martha also had a daughter named Veta born 1894, her father was C.W. Berkly and a son named Arlie whose father was Charles Pierce. I was wondering if you had any information as to who was the father of my Grandma Nellie, she was born in Neosho, MO. I have a picture of Roosevelt Goodrich and also of Roy Goodrich, my Grandmother's half brothers. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am looking for information on Emmett Spencer Goodrich (?-1910's) and Emma Joesphine Watkins (May 6th 1881ish-October 22nd 1961). Emma also married Washington P Payne after Emmett's death.

Emmett and Emma had five children:

Maude E Goodrich (20 Apr 1901-22 Jan 1989) who married Willie R Moore.

Clinton Goodrich (10 Dec 1903-October 1980)

Roland Goodrich (1906-13 May 1956)

Ola T Goodrich (9 Aug 1909- 21 Jun 2002) who married Howard Gittman.

Mary Francis Goodrich (9 Aug 1912- 11 Nov 2001) who married Henry J Fisher.

Emma also had a child with Washington Payne. His name was Gilbert Young Payne (02 Sep 1924-02 Dec 1994).

I believe Emmett Goodrich had a marriage before Emma because of the age difference, and in a census record it states that he was married but with a 2 next to it. He was older than Emma by about 20 years. I have seen reference to Emma being from North Carolina specifically Vance, but I am not sure. I know they lived almost all their lives in the Hopewell-Petersburg, Virginia area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Justus & Elijah Goodrich - Putnam Co IN

A Portrait and Biographical Record of Hendricks County [Indiana] has a biography for IRA GOODRICH, born May 6, 1834, PUTNAM County, IN, son of ELIJA GOODRICH and KEZIAH FRAZIER. This article gives the parents of ELIJA as JUSTIN GOODRICH and HANNAH OGDEN. Further information given about "Justin" is he was a Major in the War of 1812 and had a son JACOB, who was in the same Regiment.

Military Minutes of the Council of Appointment of the State of New York has a JUSTICE GOODRICH, lieutenant, from OTSEGO County, NY.

I believe this JUSTIN/JUSTICE/JUSTUS GOODRICH was the son of WAIT GOODRICH, who died 1799/1800, will recorded DELAWARE County, NY. Children of Wait Goodrich abstracted from the Will:

MANUS, JUSTUS & ELIJAH GOODRICH (eldest sons) - given land located in "Town of Otsego"
ASHBEL GOODRICH (son)
Daughters: SALLY CHRISTIAN, SUSANNAH OGDEN, CIBEL WATTLES, EUNICE GOODRICH, POLLY GOODRICH & CAROLINE GOODRICH.

My research interest is ZELPHA OGDEN GOODRICH who married AMERICUS VESPUCIUS PATRICK. Zelpha was the daughter of ELIJAH GOODRICH (b. 1809 NY, d. 1873 IL) and KEZIAH FRAZIER.

I hope to firm up the lineage from ELIJAH to JUSTUS to WAIT GOODRICH. I look forward to hearing from anyone who can connect to any of the names above.
