Connecticut to Marshall Co., Va./W.Va. connection

The 1850 U.S. census for Marshall Co., Va. (now W.Va.) shows a James Goodrich, 67, born in Connecticut. Wallace Case's book lists a James Goodrich who lived for a time in W.Va., but that one was born in 1779 -- seemingly not the same guy. Also in the 1850 Marshall Co. census are households with Nathan Goodrich, 29; Nelson Goodrich, 30; and Minerva Goodrich Purdy, 27 -- all born in Ohio and possibly the children of the James listed in the census. Minerva was my G-g-grandmother.

Does anyone have any clues that might help me determine the parentage and children of James Goodrich? His wife's name, according to the census, was Elizabeth, aged 55 in 1850, who died in 1853. Children living with him in 1850 were Elizabeth A., 17; and James Jr., 19.

obit fyi: Huckvale Goodrich. 1936-2008

PLEASE NOTE, THIS WAS POSTED FOR REFERENCE ONLY. I AM NOT RELATED TO, NOR AM I RESEARCHING THIS FAMILY, I’VE ONLY DONE A COPY AND PASTE FROM OUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER FYI.

THIS INFO HAS BEEN POSTED WITH THE PERMISSION OF THE EDITOR OF THE COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD.

COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD, MOSES LAKE, WASHINGTON.

Huckvale Goodrich known to most as “Huck,” was born to Karl and Marguerite Goodrich on Sept. 15, 1936, in Vernal, Utah. In 1944 Karl, Peggy, brother Ivor and Huck moved from Vernal, Utah to Moses Lake, where they joined the budding community of some 350 residents. It was in these early years that Huck discovered his true passion for building and creating. Watching his grandfather build a home, building his own forts, huts and model airplanes fueled his desire to create further. In 1954, Huck graduated from Moses Lake High School and left home to study architecture at BYU.

On Dec. 29, 1956, he left his second year of studies to marry his high school sweetheart, Lorrie Ludvigson. Residing in Moses Lake once again, Huck began his career with Boeing and he and Lorrie began their family with the addition of son Brian in 1957. During his 13 years with Boeing, Huck moved often, stationed in such places as Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Maria, Calif., Rapid City, S.D., and Paine Field in Everett, Wash. Accomplishments ranged from working on the Minute Man Missile installations in the 1960s to being one of the three recognized for rolling out and commissioning Boeing’s first 747. As he traveled the countryside supervising various projects, Huck and Lorries’ family grew with the additions of son Keith and daughter Stacey.

After 13 years, Huck and his family moved back to Moses Lake so he could fulfill his longtime desire to build his own house. He, along with his father Karl and brother Ivor, joined to develop the Goodrich farm into what is currently known as Pelican Point. Huck crafted and constructed the existing water systems and some 30 homes that occupy the neighborhood today.

On Jan.18, 1976, Huck began his lifetime commitment to sobriety and AA membership. Throughout his remaining years he regularly attended meetings and helped any and all who sought out help from substance abuse.

On Oct. 8, 1988, Huck married Jill Armstrong and added sons Mike, Bob and Kelly to the family. He and Jill spent countless hours and days traveling to family events in Canada, California, Maryland and the Washington Coast. Many adventures resulted in the acquisition of exotic building materials and collector cars.

Huck is a highly esteemed member of Moses Lake, spending 52 years of his life as a resident. With his wise and gracious attitude toward all, he is an inspirational leader for many, including those attending AA, members of the Presbyterian Church and countless other family members and friends.

Huck passed to his heavenly home on Friday Aug. 1, 2008, at Sacred Heart Hospital due to pulmonary fibrosis, which was diagnosed in April of this year. He was preceded in death by his father Karl, his mother Marguerite and brother Ivor. He is survived by his wife Jill, sons Brian, Keith, Mike, Bob and Kelly and daughter Stacey and 20 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at the Moses Lake First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Paul Wagner officiating. The family will greet friends at Kayser’s Chapel of Memories on Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Arrangements are in care of Kayser’s Chapel & Crematory, Moses Lake. You may sign the guest book or leave a note for the family at www.kayserschapel.com.

Dear Sir. My sister and I have been doing some research on our family histroy. We know that our great grandfather was Benjamin Goodrich and that he was married to a "Sarah" in the 1800's in Ohio. He was a wagon master on the Oregon Trail where our Grandfather Charles Franklin was born. We are unable to locate any information about Benjamin. We know he died in Salinas, California. This is where we are from. Sarah was from Missouri. This we have found from a family Bible. If you have any information this would help us greatly. Thank you for your time in this matter.

I am researching the Goodrich family that married into the Pruett in Dunklin County Mo. Albert Goodrich was living with Clark Pruett in the 1880 census of Salem Twp. Shown as grandson. His death certificate showed a Amy Goodrich as his father and a Mary Pruett as his mother. Clark and Celia had a daughter of 10 named Mary Pruett.
I suppose it is possible that Clark had been married before but two daughters with the same name still unlikely. Celia was a Cude. Would like to know more about the Goodrichs.

George Goodrich Erie PA d 1884

I am trying to unravel a mystery of a particular mausoleum in the Erie Cemetery in Erie PA, relating to the Goodrich family.

The story is getting complex in that I can't find any information on the Goodrichs. The first interment in the particular mausoleum was of GW Goodrich (George W)who died Nov 14 1884. However the mausoleum is owned by the Brown family, not the Goodrich family. I spoke with the general manager of the Cemetery, but he said the records are vague as to how it managed to become owned by the Brown family.
Mary Goodrich was interred in the vault, her death date is Mar 14 1888.

On Sept 14 1888, three other Goodrichs were exhumed and reinterred in the vault. They were moved from lot 23 section B of the cemetery.
They were as follows:
George C Goodrich (no death date)
Julia A Goodrich died Mar 24 1856
"Goodrich, son of A.J.(or possibly A.C.)"
The Erie Cemetery records show that mausoleum as the 'Brown vault', 'S.Brown vault', and with George's entry 'Private vault of Thomas Brown'.

There are other Goodrichs in the cemetery, nearby the section that George, Julia, and 'the son' were originally buried, however, none seem to match with the family in the Brown Mausoleum. There are also two others in the vault that I don't have the names of.

GW was a store owner (variety store and bakery) on State St in Erie. However, that is the only mention I can find of these particular Goodrichs in Erie. I haven't come across any genealogy references to them, only Emanuel Goodrich who was alive around the same time, but buried in the nearby location. I don't know if possibly they were brothers, but it's worth mention.

If anyone has any information on these Goodrichs, I'd appreciate the help. I'm trying to track down the history of the mausoleum and the connection to the Brown family.

It is the Salsbury Cemetery in Howard Township, Cass County, Michigan. Has anyone heard of it? Do you know where it is? There seems to be a few Goodrich ancestors buried there.

Goodrich/Richardson

This is a long shot by all means. I am actually researching the Richardson family and have come to a dead end! Thus, I will try this....
Harriet Richardson (from Ireland, maybe Dublin area) born to William and Anna Richardson. She probably was born in the 1860's or maybe very early 1870's.
She had three brothers, Clement, Harry and Lester. It is believed She and Mr. Goodrich moved to England. That's all I know, other than Clement, her brother went to American and I believe Lester went to New Zealand and I believe, Harry went to Australia. That is what I heard, I have no documents to back this up.
I have alot of information on Clement, that was my Great Grandfather.

R. GOODRICH Biography, b. 1850 NY to WI

William Bingham Goodrich

My name is Connie Sterner and I have a web site about upstate NY - mostly St Lawrence County. www.northcountryny.com I am doing some research about a man named William Bingham Goodrich who was born in Wilna NY, probably grew up in Gouverneur NY and spent much of his adult life in Canton NY (my home town). I am trying to figure out who his parents were. Goodrich is one of those family names that had a zillion people... William Goodrich became a lawyer, was part owner of the town newspaper and then raised a regiment for the Civil War - the New York 60th infantry. He took a bullet through the heart at the battle of Antietam in the infamous horendous Battle of the Cornfield. What I have on his history is on my web site above - click on the left under Town Information and then under "Canton" you will find a William Goodrich button.

Anyway there are some Goodrich's from Linn County who may be his parents and I am trying to find out more about them. Here is what I have so far about Curtis Goodrich in Linn County. I found him/them on a web site for cemeteries in your area and on census. I am wondering if you have anything else on this family, the hotel he was keeper of, etc.....

1860 Lisbon, Iowa, Linn county Census - there is a Curtis Goodrich age 57 b Ct Hotel Keeper, Sophia 58 b Ma, John E 28 b NY, Osborn 21b NY, Harretta 18 b NY, James 16b NY, Susan 56 (sister of Curtis) - not sure if these people are William B Goodrich's parents but the names are right and the dates are roughly right - Click for the graves ...GOODRICH, Curtis , GOODRICH, Garfield , GOODRICH, Hattie E. , GOODRICH, Henry , GOODRICH, J. E. , GOODRICH, Sophia , GOODRICH, Susan , GOODRICH, Willie

Different Familysearch entries for Curtis Goodrich have him born in 1801, Sept 6 in Farmington, Berlin, Hartford Ct or in New Durham Green NY. The census say Ct. He died March 23, 1883 in Iowa City Johnson Iowa and is buried in Lisbon Iowa. Sophia Bingham was christened in Sudbury, Middlesex, Ct on Jan 6, 1799 and died June 18, 1868 in Lisbon Iowa. I have two different marriage dates - April 4, 1821 in Paris NY or April 4, 1822 at the First Presbyterian Church of Whitesboro, http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyoneida/ Whitestown, Oneida, NY. http://www.newhartfordpubliclibrary.org/History.html#NHHisto... I believe William Bingham Goodrich was born in 1821. If these are, This family had a number of brothers and sisters - 12 altogether born in New Hartford, Cortland, NY. Henry b 1822, Francis b 1824, John b 1826, Harriet B 1828, Sara Louisa b 1830, Leonard Livingston b 1832, Emily Sophia b 1834, Mary Corneilia b 1836, Osman Dewey b 1838, Mary Henrietta b 1840, James Curtis B 1843. New Hartford is next to Utica. They may have moved later to Cortland. There are a number of Goodrich men listed as early settlers of Cortland County: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nycortla/earlyset/gdata.htm

Curtis' parents were Leonard Goodrich b 1773 Ct & Susan Dickinson b 1780. Leonard, Abraham and Roswell Goodrich are on the 1814 Whitestown Oneida Owners of Land list http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyoneida/ Leonard and Susan are buried at the New Hartford burial ground here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyoneida/ with his brother Salmon and Salmon's son Julius. The following Goodrichs had wills in Oneida County - note here to follow up later. http://www.sampubco.com/wills/ny/nyoneida05.htm

Thanks, Connie csterner@patmedia.net
I am trying to find the ancestry, location and date of birth for Charles Goodrich who we believe was born in Upstate New York in 1811/1812. He moved to Florida in the late 1830's and is in the census records there for the next 40 years. One public record shows a Henry and Charles Goodrich in Florida in 1841. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Slaves owned by a Henry Goodrich 1860 Maryland

I am looking for the names and possable where abouts of 4 slaves owned by a Henry Goodrich. They are listed on the salve schedual of 1860 being owned (I hate that term) by my Great Great Grandfather Henry Goodrich in Baltimore city wards 5 and 6 of the 1860 census, The 4 were: a female age 46, female age 12, female age 4 all listed as black and a 1 year old male listed as mulatto. Being as things were,in those days, I am pretty sure that Henry was probably the father of the 1 year old boy. I would like to find any relations of these people and welcome them into my family. If you have any information please e-mail Chris at CRSCHN@AOL.COM

I'm looking for ancestors of Allen Goodrich, from Saratoga Co, NY, born in 1799. He is my ggggrandfather. He married Charity Schutt about 1822, went to Franklin Co, MO in 1867 where he died in 1873. He is supposedly a descendent of the "well-known and distinguished" Goodriches who were prominent in the settlement of Connecticut. Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanx.

Death of Henry Goodrich, Casadaga Village, OH, 8-29-1832

As published in:
The Sandusky Clarion
Sandusky, Ohio
August 29, 1832

Mr. Henry Goodrich, a respectable citizen of Casadage village, in this county, aged about 30, came to an untimely death on Thursday last, while engaged in digging of a well. He progressed to the depth of about 20 feet without curbing, and descended (two or three men in his employ declined to go down) to ascertain whether he would dig any further, or commence stoning, and while down a small quantity of earth fell in up to his knees; from this he extricated himself, when immediately more came in which again buried him up to his knees, and before he could extricate himself from this, more came down that reached to his middle, and while in this situation a rope was let down, which he fastened around him, and those above attempted to draw him up by the windlass; but he cried out that they would pull him in two & requested them to desist pulling, when presently a large quantity of earth caved in and buried him entirely under about a foot. It is supposed that the large quantity that came in last, broke his neck, and that he died instantly, and his neck was found to be broken after he was got out. The accident occurred about two o'clock in the afternoon, and he was not extricated until one o'clock the next morning. From the time however that it began to cave until it covered him was not over ten minutes; and the failure to extricate him with life was thought to be owing to those with him losing much of their presence of mind at the critical moment. His funeral obsequeies were attended on Saturday last by a very large concourse of friends and neighbors.

Lucian B Goodrich family 1848-1913 PA NY IN OH and daughter Mae

According to Ancestry-dot-com family trees, a Lucien B. GOODRICH and Ella Adams GOODRICH had nine children, one of whom was a Mae GOODRICH who married William WILLIAMS. No further info given on Mae. I am unable to find Mae in the 1900, 1910, or 1920 censuses. (Lucian died in Jefferson Co OH 13 Jan 1913.) I believe that she may have been William's second wife. They show up in Allentown in 1929. In Pennsylvania he called himself "Jack Goodrich", but at home, Nashville, Brown Co IN, he used his real name, William Williams. He died in Allentown, PA 20 Mar 1939 and was buried in Nashville.

When and where did they marry? What happened to her after 1939? While they had no children, perhaps a descendant of one of her siblings could help me.

William E. WILLIAMS was born 14 Apr 1886, Brown Co, IN., the son of John Sidney WILLIAMS and Sarah Ellen WOODS. To whom did he marry first; when/where? This reputedly was while in army in WWI, in Columbus or Chillicothe region, Ohio (perhaps Camp Sherman). They divorced; her name unknown. Had a daughter Virginia, who reportedly married an attorney.

He married second Mae GOODRICH; when/where? I can find no marriage license. He died in Allentown, PA 20 Mar 1939. Left no obit. Need help sorting out the two marriages.
In an antique mall in CA, I found a few photos from the 1800s of JAMES HARVEY GOODRICH (taken in Waterloo, IA) and his wife JANNETTE (FIELD) GOODRICH. In addition, there is a photo of of MRS. LUCY GOODRICH, wife of HARVEY GOODRICH, taken in Auburn, NY. She is elderly in the photo, and the photo is obviousy from the 1800s. These pics are attached to this message posting. I am not connected to this family, but am hoping their descendants will enjoy having copies of these photos.
