Hi, I'm hoping you are still out there.
My Great Grandfather, Oscar Glendon Goodwin is brother of Russell Washington Goodwin. I have been unable to prove who their paternal grandfather was. Their maternal grandfather was Burrell Thomas Goodwin, married to Phillency Barrass. I have a copy of their marriage register and Burrell T's land grants.
I would love to know what you have found and will share what I have.
Lara

I realize this is an old post, but hopefully you are still out there. Oscar Glendon Goodwin is my Great Grandfather. He was Floyd's half brother. His mother was Susan Ann Goodwin Shull Goodwin and his father was Burrel Jacob Goodwin.
I have not been able to prove who Burrel Jacob's father was. Some have Lorenzo Dow Goodwin, and he was certainly in the area, but I haven't found anything to link him to Burrel Jacob.
To add to the confusion, Burrel J's grandfather was Berrel (or Burrel), plus Susan Ann's father was Burrell Thomas Goodwin. My Great Uncle was Burl (son of Oscar).
I would love to know what you have found, and will share the little I have found.

Hello Paul,
Well I was just mucking around on this site and came across your message. I'll have a look around and see if I have any photos of that area. I don't I have much. That are is like any around here. They torn some things down and slapped a coat of paint on others. The area is very heavily populated with Indian/Pakistan people now, but that seems to be the case all over. I couldn't remember the names of Joe's kids, but once I saw them it brought it back. Aside from Jimmy, I'm hoping everyone is in good health. I doubt any of them would remember me. I lived up Spring St, but would bob into
the shop from time to time. I'll have a look around for some photos and ask the kids, but again, I'm not sure what is knocking about.
All the best,
Keith

Hiya Keith, thanks for replying, I wasn't expecting any replies, to be honest lol. Jimmy was my uncle, Joe (jr) my dad, the other siblings were Lillian and Kathleen. Our family emigrated to Canada at the end of the 60's, as did Lillian & Kath. All 3 are still living & in Canada, I live in San Diego with my family.
I'm really not sure what I'm looking for, I think more than anything I'd like to see some photos of the area of Grandads at the time he operated his shop, I have very vivid memories of spending a lot of time there as a small boy, I've looked online for photos but other than an aerial shot of the old Foster Yates & Thom area & looking at the present day area using Google Earth I haven't been able to find any.
At any rate it's fantastic to see a reply & amazing that someone actually knew our family "back home"
Best wishes & thanks again,

Paul

I believe we may be related. I am a descendent of James Anthony Goodwin (1843-1927). James and a brother, John (1841- abt 1915), immigrated to the US in 1855 to live with an uncle in Missouri. I have traced a John Goodwin (single) from Missouri (1860) to Iowa – wife, Harriet (1880) > Nebraska (1900) – wife, Harriet, children, Cora and Harry > Mill City, Oregon (1910) – wife, Hattie, aunt, Elizabeth Hensley living in same household. You stated in your message that Harry’s parents were Jacob and Harriet Goodwin. A few days ago, I made contact with a Charles Amos Howe in Roseburg, Oregon. Charles lists his great-grandfather as John Goodwin and grandfather as Harry Amos Goodwin. Charles sent me a picture of Harry Amos Goodwin. I have compared the picture with my great-grandfather James and have found remarkable family resemblance. Please contact me at april36@cableone.net.
Moses Goodwin of Kent County, Delaware, was the son of Daniel Gooden (Goodwin, Gooding, various spellings)and Elizabeth, the widow of John Flowers Sr. Moses had land there, which he sold to his brother Joseph in 1742: 18 Sep 1742. Deed of Release. Moses Goodwin of Kent Co. for 26 pounds releases unto Joseph Goodwin ... a tract of land in Murderkill Hundred called Northampton .... 200 a. including the plantation whereon Moses Goodwin now dwells. (Kent Co. Delaware Land Records, Vol.4, by Mary Marshall Brewer, p. 138)This family was related by marriage to my Flowers family of Kent Co., who migrated to York Co., PA and was living in Shrewsbury Twp. by 1762, having sold their last tract of land in Kent Co. in 1742. Perhaps members of the Flowers and Gooden families travelled to the same place from Delaware!

___ GOODWIN, married Martha Elana COLWELL, (b 1851 Hillsdale Co MI, d 1901 Kent Co. MI) Mr. Goodwin - res Canada? d. bef 1900

I'm looking for information on the HUSBAND of Martha Elana (Colwell) GOODWIN. She sometimes was called "Mattie" or "Lany." She was b. 1851 in Michigan, of Reading, Hillsdale County, daughter of Albert COLWELL and Mabel THOMAS.

Martha Elana's parents divorced and I don't know who raised her. If it was her father, then it would have been in Reading, Hillsdale, MI. If her mother or mother's family, then she may have lived in Shelby, Oceana, MI, Ionia Co, MI, Kent Co, MI, Branch Co. and possibly Newaygo County, MI or even Benzie Co, MI.

Martha Elana (Colwell) GOODWIN died 1901 in Cascade Twp, Kent, MI, of TB, which she suffered with for 14 yrs, according to her death record. It also listed her the parent of 1 child with 0 living and buried at the Whitneyville Cemetery, Cascade Twp, Kent, MI. (Her name is NOT on the cemetery records or on any tombstone that I have seen there.)

The 1900 census has her living with her mother and step-father (Garfields), and listed as widowed, in Whitneyville, Cascade, Kent, MI. I cannot find a census or marriage record anywhere in MI for her, with her husband, prior to that time, though her death record states she was 22 yrs old when first married. That would be about 1873 (and assuming this was her only marriage).

I did see the 1881 census for Lower, Londonderry, Colchester, Nova Scotia, CANADA, a GEORGE AND MARTHA GOODWIN, both b. USA. She is the right age. He is listed as a machinist. This is the closest thing, so far. Especially since my grandmother thought that PERHAPS they owned a threshing company in Canada. I have not been able to find him on any other record, since.

Does any of this sound familiar to a GOODWIN researcher out there, with possible Michigan connections? If so, I'd love to hear from you!

Thanks!

Cynthia

This is Nita, Charley and Edna's daughter. I've been trying to find background information on our family too. I've been told that some of the ones you are inquiring about are burried in a cemetary in Rover, Missouri, Oregon County. Going to be going there and checking it out. I will let you know what I find out. If you have found out any information since your post please let me know.

Thanks,

Nita

I too am a Goodwin(Anna Lee Goodwin) and wish to find more info, however I am at a complete road block due to the passing of my grandparents and now my father as of 2003.
As much as I do know Pop-pop's name was William Daniel Goodwin as was my Father's and both were only children (no siblings?)from what I recall.Pops married Gertrude (High?) Goodwin.and she had a sister Frances she married Earl (?)and they have had a daughter, Trudy who married Jerry Diettrich and they had a daughter Jerry Lynn.
I have memories of my great grandfather but none of his wife, she may very well of past away before I was born.I am not even sure if Great Grand Dad's name is as his son etc.
My Father and his parents lived mostly in North Wales Pennsylvania & briefly Florida then back to Pa.My sister, Suzanne Mroz and I grew up in Hatfield,Pa then branched out as adults to Pottsville,Pa where I currently reside and my sister's family now resides in Wellsboro Pa.We both have children I, two boys and Suzanne, a boy and a girl.
So we have always known that the Goodwin name would end with my sister and I.
I hope I can get the help here, to find out where and who we come from?
So Sorry So long for such a short history
I have never been to that cemetery. You have to walk thru the woods to get there. A decendent of Patsy Hart has been there and she told me there was a Goodwin buried there. Probably both Patsy and William.

We have a new Goodwin to add to the family tree.
Ransom Keane Goodwin born Sept 15, 2009.
Parents are Kevin & Tina Goodwin.
Hi,

I saw your post while researching the Goodwin branch of my family (KY and TN mostly). I also have a Thomas and Millie in my family tree. I just thought the irony was interesting. Thomas Goodwin was married to Wilhemina. Wilhemina was known as a Millie to many people. Thomas is a name that reoccurs a few times in the family tree.

Do you have relatives in KY or TN?
I've gotten back to the mid to early 1800's but I can't seem to go any further back in history.

Thanks!
