I am not sure if anyone will see this but I am trying to find out if Adam Gooley had a son born in around 1866 named Edward. Edward would have been my great grandfather. I know he came from around the Clinton County or Washington County area.

Hi Michael

I seem to flip in and out of research (depending on my workload). Sorry for taking so long to reply...

I am chasing James Gooley and I dare say that his link is alos in Cashel or Clonoulty... not sure if he had a brother william - although I suspect he did. I am trying to track down how James came into Australia and whether he as married to Honora Cleary before he arrived or perhaps he married her after arriving in Australia, however it seems she died shortly after (marriage and/or arrival)and hence he married Bridget Bourke. let me know if you think there is a link.

and good luck

Robbie

John or Peter Gooley lived in Canada and Michigan

I've seen him called Peter on the census, but his son James lists his father's name as John Gooley on his marriage application in Parry Sound, Canada (Ontario). My Peter Gooley married Mary Ann Dennis of Canada. According to the 1901 Canada census, Peter was born 2 May 1842 in the United States of a French father and an American mother. Peter and Mary Ann had at least the following children: James, Ida, Daisy or Dollie, and Nina. All these children were born in the United States, according to the 1901 Canada census. If you have information pertaining to my Peter/John Gooley, I'd appreciate it if you'd contact me at dickinson869@yahoo.com.

Hi All

This is just another request and and update on information on James Gooley.

I have have a marrige certificate for my Great Great Grandfather William Bourke b.abt 1830 and Bridget O'Brien they were married in Goulburn in 1862 at St Pete and Paul Cathedrial.

I have recently obtained a death certificate for Bridget Bourke (nee Kilfoyle) she was married to Michael Bourke and they were from Ireland. Bridget came to Australia abt 1858 about the same time as her son William Bourke.

Upon doing a search on www.rootsweb.com under Bridget Bourke and Kilfoyle i have found a Bridget Bourke that married a James Gooley. I am wondering if the Bridget that married James Gooley was one of the 14 children that Bridget and Micheal Bourke had. On Bridget Bourke/Kilfoyle death certificate dated 1876 it does not list her 14 chidren.

If anyone has information or has any questions please contact as any help is gratefully appreciative.

Many Thanks
Lisa

Hi

I maybe related to to Bridget Bourke who married James Gooley.

My Great Great Grandfather was William Bourke/Burke he married a women called Bridget O'Brien in Goulburn NSW 1862. At the Roman Catholic Church called St Peter and Paul Cathedrial Goulburn. On their marriage certificate a James Gooley is noted as a witness along with a Winifred O'Brien.

I recieved an email from The Goulburn Family Historical Society the other day with some information on William Bourke. His parents were Bridget Kilfoyle and Michael Bourke.

When i did a search on a few genealogy sites i have found that James Gooley married a women called Bridget Bourke. Bridget shares the same parents as my Great Great Grandfather William. William was born in Tipperary Ireland abt.1830's.

If any of the above information rings a bell with anyone i would love to hear from you, as i have hit a brick wall reserching the family.

Many Thanks
Lisa

To Roberta : If you don't know it already yes they were married in Goulburn - the registration No. in the New South Wales Births Deaths & marriages is V1856415 101/1856 - James Gooley and Bridget Bourke with the district marked LO which was code for the Roman Catholic Church in Goulburn. My ancestors came from Tipperary . His name was William Gooley who arrived in 1850 as an assisted immigrant. Try the NSW State records and check the assisted immigrants list from 1840 to 1855. It is possiblethat my ancestor headed to Boorowa near Young - it was called the Tipperary of the South, and you never know there may be some connection but not from my direct ancestor down. If James' father was named William then is a possible link but you have to find that out first - you can buy a print of the marriage certificate from NSW births, deaths & marriages and see if it contains any parents names.
Regards Stephen Gooley

Hi Sandy

Yes I have quite a bit of info on your family line I think. You could try making contact with Michael Gooley at this email address: gooley@zeta.org.au
It is quite some time since I have had contact with Michael, but hopefully his email is still the same. Also do a search for Edward Gooley - they have a fantastic web page - and I think that might be the family line you are looking for. Other than that there is a huge family line in the Lismore/Casino region of NSW - and I think that is the same family line.

Good luck - and if you think anyone is related to me I would love to know. Please note my change of email address is now: remanuel@bigpond.net.au

Robbie

Be informed, if he was born in Canada he is French Canadian and the original spelling of his last name was Goulet. My
great grandfather George Goulet was born in Canada and when he came to the US he changed the spelling of his last name to Gooley. Little did he know that he picked up on an
Irish name. This is very confusing to us geneaology buffs.

However, the only Patrick I can find is the son of James and Bridget and he supposedly died several years later. Do you know of any others born at that time?

Thank you

Sandy

My great grandmother was Katherine, and her mother was Katherine also. She had a number of siblings, but the information is getting pretty diluted. The Gooleys in my family anyway, came from Ireland, and settled in the Halifax area. They had an Inn on what is now the Halifax arm. I know it was lost some time during the depression.
I dont know her fathers name, but i will try to get it from my grandmother ( who is turning 90 next month) and will let you know as soon as i do.

Thanks so much for the quick reply
joane

Thank you so much for writing! I've put my genealogy research on hold lately (partly because of time, partly out of frustration!), but I was just delighted to get your message.

I don't have my materials with me, but if I remember correctly, John Gooley was born in Nova Scotia in the early 1870s or late 1860s; he married Jane Doherty and seems to have moved to Lynn, Massachusetts in time to have my grandfather (Charles Gooley) in 1894. From what I was able to find out, Jane Doherty's parents were born in Nova Scotia/New Brunswick, while John Gooley's parents were born in Ireland. John Gooley seems to have graduated from St. John's in New Brunswick. And, amazingly, that's all I've been able to find out.

Have you found out anything more about the Gooley family?

Thanks again for writing!

Hi,

I don't have information on your particular family but I found a great deal of info at this Alsatian genealogy site: http://cdhf.telmat-net.fr

They have pages in English and French, and several databases to search. I have actually been to their center in Guebwiller, France, and they are very helpful. Also, many of their birth/death/marriage records were filmed by the LDS church and are thus available from Salt Lake City as well - you could go to a family history center near you if you find info in the CDHF databases and look up the same info in an LDS index, then order the microfilm from Salt Lake City.

Are you just starting your research? If so, I may have more Alsatian sites that could help you.

Good luck!

I did find him in the city Directory that is how I knew he lived a few blocks to our family. I never found an obit just the date of his funeral. I also checked the Cathedral church records.I never found his name in the index for those censuses. Have you ever looked at the KC census? It's very loooonnnngggg! I have looked at KC census many times looking for a numerous amount of relatives. Without him listed in the index it would be almost impossible to find him. Somewhere I found he was born in Ireland but can't remember where at the moment. He may not be in the census because he just arrived in KC shortly before his death. I know there were a lot of Irish immigrants arriving in KC about 1870. One of these days I will solve the mystery! Perhaps while looking for someone else.

G'day Cheryl, you could have been the one, so many sites to check out, hey. I have found a couple of William Gooley's, whilst doing my Gooley Tree. The first one was born abt 1832 in Co. Tipperary & married a Catherine Dwyer abt 1855 in Co Tipperary. They had a William Patrick born 1861 in Kilmore Victoria Australia. The second one again was born in Co. Tipperary abt 1818, married a Mary O'Brien abt 1858 in Kilmore Vic. This William's parents were - William Gooley and Honora (Cunningham) Gooley. Lastly the only details if have for this William is his wife was Honora Dwyer.
Kilmore in the State of Victoria was part of the Gold rush triangle in the 1850's. I hope that a lest one of these William's is part of the branch you are looking for. My family of Gooley's came from Co.Kilkenny and my g,g,g,grandfather was a William Gooley, which is why I ended up with so many. If it does pan out that one of these is yours, reply back direct and I will see what I can find out for you. My email is stewgang@sympac.com.au
Good luck Roz
